Re: Online application for NICOP and POC
So three years after my online application for a Pakistan Origin Card (POC) was interrupted by removal of the service, I decided to turn up at the Pakistan Embassy in London recently - here is a quick description of the experience:
This is the scene that greeted me on arrival outside the embassy:
Following the sign on the wall, I went to the tented area adjacent to the main building and took the relevant paper ticket/token from a small kiosk on the right-hand side. Under the large white tent are a few rows of chairs and four processing stations: Nadra, MRP, Visas, Card Payments.
Waited about 30-45 minutes for my ticket number to show up on the digital display above the Nadra station. Once at the desk, the clerk asked for my documents (passport, birth certificate & photocopies of parents id cards) and whether I was applying for a new NICOP. For some unknown reason, POC was not available as an option despite being a British-born applicant.
The clerk then gave me a payment slip to get authorised at the card payment station to the far right. In my case, I chose to pay by cash and was sent to the main embassy building (no. 34) - from the entrance, I headed towards the back of the building and down a flight of stairs where a UBL bank counter is situated. I paid the application fee and my slip was stamped/signed. I went back to the white tent to hand back the slip at the nadra station (new ticket not required) and was told to wait for my name to be called.
About 10 minutes later, I was given a new print-out and asked to follow a member of staff into the main embassy building along with a handful of other applicants. This time I was directed to the first room on the left from the entrance - this is the data capture and processing office. Waited about 30mins for my name to be called, then I had my photograph taken and fingerprints scanned into their computer. Shortly afterwards, I sat with a different clerk who filled out an electronic application form whilst asking me to confirm things like my address, telephone number and occupation. The completed form was printed out in the corner of the office where the final clerk asked me to confirm all the details on the application form were correct before signing it myself. In addition, a Pakistani citizen has to attest the form with his/her name, signature and id card number before they will accept it. Once done, I handed it back to the clerk in the processing office and was told to wait 6-8 weeks for something to turn up in the post.
It was a relatively smooth operation but if you’re the type of person who likes wandering off, doesn’t bother reading the signs, forgets necessary documents and loses his/her patience quickly then maybe you should look for alternatives.
