One more pain added to my list of experiences...

Be very careful when sharpening your Miswak…Specially using a sharp instrument…You can cut yourself real deep…As I have found out…

A couple of times…

Be gentle and skillful with it…

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences...

man why would you want to use a sharp instrument to sharpen your miswaak,
I am sorry but i am just getting a real weird picture in my head by reading your post

lol

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences…

I thought you just have to peel it a bit and dip it in water for few hours and it becomes chewable to make it sharpen. That’s how, atleast, I’ve been trained and have been doing it :konfused:

Well, there was also this method where after you scraped the bark and then cut it up into tiny sections and then chewing on it to soften it…

Well, live and learn…

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences...

miswak?

Tell me you're talking about regular old commercially produced toothpicks.

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences...

^^

No...We are talking about the Miswak mentioned in the link provided...

Tell me you didn't know what a Miswak is?

:)

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences...

Why not use a toothpick?

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences...

^^ because its the sunnah to use a miswaak

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences...

Dude, isn't it the same thing in the end? A piece of wood used to pick out the crap between your teeth?

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences...

no its not the same thing - a miswaak is more like a tooth brush because of the bristles that are formed at the end. Now you may ask why not just brush your teeth and the answer you would get is that brushing teeth requires tooth paste unike a miswaak which can be soaked in water for a while or chewed upon by using your own saliva making it more easier to use oh and plus it comes in different sizes

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences…

toothbrushes too!
plus they come in different types…hard to soft…manual to electric…
and colors too!
some of them bend too!

do u guys go to work on a camel?

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences…

:hehe:

dont derail the thread please.

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences…

do u guys go to work on a camel?

:rotfl:

These guys think they can get spiritually closer to God by immitating the Prophet’s antique toothbrushing tools. Meanwhile, they forget how the Prophet would interact with others in a debate or how he would respond in a fight or aggressive situation. I doubt the Prophet would be PM’ing admin to ban this person or that person. In the more important matters of life, like interpersonal behavior, they forget to immitate the Prophet.

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences…

waiting for a hadith that will justify prophet PM’ing admin if applied in today’s context…

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences…

People follow what their hearts desire for them to follow…

Some follow the Sunnah of the Prophet :saw:, in hopes of achieving that which is elusive…Success both in this world and the next…So they try to follow the Holy Prophet :saw: as closely as possible…

Some follow the west because it seems as if that’s where the flow is going, and is simply quite easy…Just stow away whatever ghairat and foundation of faith you have and raise fingers at those who try to follow Islam closely…

First one has a serene, carefree and peaceful quality about it, the second one is agitated, doubtful and intolerant…

I like to be serene, carefree and peaceful…Just keep raising your fingers at me…See if I care…

Re: One more pain added to my list of experiences...

How does one determine when to "follow the prophet as closely as possible"? When it is easy and convenient? For instance, it is not that much of a problem brushing your teeth in his manner (unless you are clumsy with sharp instruments), but riding a camel to work would require hardships. So if you skip the hardships and just go with the easy stuff, it wouldn't seem that you are making much of a sacrifice. Besides, can brushing your teeth the way they did before tooth brushes were invented really make you closer to Islam, or is it just more symbolic of trying to imitate a culture that has nothing to do with spirituality?
