I use the treadmill for a warm-up. Then I use the step-machine. Then use the treadmill for running. I have a boring routine in the gym! Hehe!

Basically my target is abs, thighs, bum, arms etc.

How many miles do you run a week? if you are doing it for 7 days, don't you think your knees will be impacted in the long run?

running on treadmill 3x/wk at least ... one hour total ... interval training style.
walking ... 12-14 hrs /day ... not a choice really ... that's just work ... i don't count that as exercise.
aim: increase endurance/strength

would it be better to alternate treadmill w/ ellipitical?

Hold up, you walk 12-14 hours a day? How do you manage that? :)

I can run 3 miles (at 4.5-5 speed),
i can walk for hours but hate to do it...i get bored and start to run,
been going to the gym 4-5 times a week, but been working out on the elliptical (45mins) and thn a mile on the treadmill (10-12 mins).
what do u think PM...can u help me :) ?

i do treadmill, powerwalking, 5 times a week for 30 mins..

and go gym to aerobics classes 2 to 3 times a week as well as toning clases 1 or 2 times a week..these are all 1 hour long each.

Now about myself. I am diabetic ( Type II, I am not on insulin but I am on medication) , I started walking at my doctors advice . I was gaining weight constantly and diabetics develop poor blood circulation in legs. So I started noticing that I cannot walk for longer than 10 minutes duration. So that was a wake up call. I am on strict diet and workout for last couple of months and I notice improvements, Alhumdulillah.

I have a stationary bike too . Should I do tread mill three days , stationary bike three days and take a break on 7th day of the week ?

I did not know that impart on knees. I notices some pain in my knee last night, It is the knee of the leg for which I had a hairline fracture 6 years ago in an automobile accident.
What is your suggession Sandhu and PM ? How many days on treadmill and for how many minutes , Any suggestion about that stationary bike. I do not know how to ride a real bike . :o

I manage it just barely :)
partly why i'm trying to work on strength/endurance ... esp legs/lowerback

Mirch if you are just walking...then there is minimal impact on your knees. however running/jogging everyday is a different story and not recommended.

you said you are walking 3-5 days a week? that sounds about right. maybe you can add some other form of cardio for the other days?

People say elliptical is better for your knees, I try to do that 3-5 times a week and I walk about 4 miles on the weekends.

you know my dad was diabetic too. He controlled it with working out . He used to use those testing strips every day.

Now the thing is if the condition don't impact your muscle/bone strength you are as good as new.
hmmmm i would say do. If stationary bike has different level of intensity use them!
The goal here is give you quality muscle mass where its required in your case leg/calves tummy.
Some time when you finish treadmill and still don't want to quit get on bike for few extra mins.
Then do starching to relax.
Now its during the time yor are against your body, You test your limits and push them.

Now rest is equally important. Your body tell you when it needs a break NEVER feel guilty about taking a break from work out.
Try pushing your self over the time. and see if there is any area of your body which gives up before others.

For example this season
1-after sitting all day.
2-driving 2 hrs back a forth.
I felt when I started running my calf and back was getting sore very quickly. SO after ever running session I did run up/down stairs+ plus train my back with weight.
And sure enough in while after running for long time I did not feel a thing in calves or in back.

I know for sure stomach exercises would help you improve your time and quality on treadmill.
And once you done that; we will work on making your leg muscle stronger.

now the girls who are already working out and.

1-If you still there are areas with which you are not satisfied.

You got to try different work out routine. Different intensity or little different motion. I put on weight on very often.
The fastest way when I lose extra fat from tummy is when I do running and skating together. Some time same day. Some time alternate days.
So do same; combine to different work out routines to get better results.

2-Or you feel it not too hard to work out.

Still identify the area/muscle which can be worked on. Be performance oriented.
