Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
Is there any need to politicize it with respect to Afghanistan and India?
Yes, because when it comes to any such event, people always badmouth Muslims and Pakistanis for some reason. Now the terrorist is Afghan. Wonder what his fellow Afghans are saying with respect to his actions and his dad's connections to the Taliban.
Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
Agreed 100%
Also keep in mind that Afghans are safe from india's goonda gardi because of Pakistan's strategic location. If Afghanistan shared a border with India instead of Pakistan, then they would have seen the true colours of hindu bania
Yes, I know. It is the regional proxy wars and tensions. If Pakistan was not sandwiched between India and Afghanistan, the repercussions could have been numerous. Afghanistan is geographically blessed, and this is why all the LoC tensions are left on Pakistan to handle. From both sides. Indian soldiers shooting people on one, Afghanistan exporting illegal terrorists on the other; and yet somehow Pakistan is always the bad guy in the end.
Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
We need to stand up to these animals and counter them n**ot by words but by deeds, **actively taking up the counter narrative to what they are preaching.
^ This. LGBT/Trans community is a minority group that has been and continues to be discriminated against b/c of something that's a part of them. It's not different from Muslims being discriminated against because of what we believe. We are both minority groups under attack. I agree with the statements made by CAIR/other organizations. Regardless of our personal religious belief, NOTHING justifies what happened in Orlando. The fact that it's in Ramadan takes it to a new height. We need to show our support not only by words, but also by doing whatever we can to help (volunteering our time/items, donating blood for anyone on Florida etc.). As a minority community that's under attack by all sides, we need to take an active stance and counter this not only with our words but also deeds against another minority community that was butchered like animals.
For Muslims who are involved in their local Islamic organizations, they also need to reach out to their local LGBT organizations, offer support/any help they might need, and make it crystal-clear that we do not support/agree with the massacre that took place.

And people wonder why I've pretty much denounced my religion.
It's just so sad to me that these people went out to have a good time only to have their lives ended. Where does it end? What's good enough for these people? What do these people want exactly? For everyone to sit at home and repent their sins?
Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
I don't think it was a terrorist attack, in my personal opinion, this was a hate crime against LGBT by a homophobe. However, at the same time, I do also believe that hate against LGBT is particularly and strongly preached in the society and community. People that are LGBT are scared to come out to their families and wonder what's going to happen to them if someone finds out. Even if their mother/parents/family are supportive, they don't still come out - because what will society say? Their siblings won't get married etc, people won't think their family is a decent family etc. When such hate is instilled in a person derived from wrongful interpretations of religion, then what else do you expect to happen? Religion says a lot of tough things about homosexuality, people use those in the wrong context to preach hatred. When hatred develops into anger, it turns into madness which in turns causes things like this Orlando massacre.
Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
by the way, few nonmuslim friends asked me today that what is an islamic stand on LGBT? i dont know the answer. can anyone pls guide us in an unbiased way. thx
No one gonna answer? We all know what maulanas who study Islam extensively for years say about it, but we also know how they are constantly misinterpreting Islam.

A couple of years back I attended a session with Yasir Qadhi at ICNA Convo and he explained it. Islam like Christianity, Judaism and other religions forbid homosexuality. But at the same time, it doesnt allow anyone to take a personal action against those opt for being a homo or a transgender in this regard. Quran does mention punishment for them but thats only when a islamic system is imposed in a certain country and the govt does due diligence and follow the proper protocol for that. No individual is allowed to take any sorta action.
This morning NPR asked the same question to a Orlando masjid imam and he quoted the aayah, "Lakum deenakum wale ya deen". i.e. Islam asks others who dont agree with its principles to follow their own course while the believers will follow their own path. i.e. Islam while doesnt approve homosexuality, also doesnt stop anyone from making their own choices. And when it doesnt stop, there is absolutely no point of using the force against them.
Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
Homosexuality is forbidden in Islam, just like pork is forbidden to eat. This does not mean you start killing them.
It means.. don't be homosexual and don't eat pork.
But if you are one... then it is between you and your creator. Any individual or fully established state are not responsible to punish them. There is no clear verse in Quran which suggest any punishment. Unlike zina... in one tradition ... Prophet Muhammad(saw) discouraged the implementation of punishment when one woman confessed zina...
Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
Yasir Qadhi says that in an Islamic state, homosexuals committing acts of homosexuality would be punished by the state. What exactly would the punishment be, did he clarify?
But it's forbidden for a regular muslim to start punishing homosexuals in America. Especially because that would make his people and religion look bad. Yasir Qadhi is a true moderate. He says in Islamic states it's ok to persecute and punish homosexuals who practice homosexuality. In America it's not.
Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
Then again Islam also says that no one is supposed to indulge in vigilante justice. It is up to God to judge someone and punish them accordingly. You're not supposed to go out there gun wielding and massacre people, just cos of your screwed up judgement and thinking on what's right or wrong.
Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
Why is homophobia rampant in the muslim world then? Doesn't holy books say homosexuality is a vile practice, and state other demaning statements about homosexuality? But such words don't lead to acts of violence?
Are we just going to parrot stuff as always and wait for the next act of terror? Then parrot ingrained stuff again, that the best we can do? Whitewashing is more important than attacking the problem at it's source?
World is loosing patience, too many incidents to parrot "this is not from within our teachings".
Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
I've already mentioned that despite the fact that this was a hate crime, instead of an Islamic terrorist attack, still the hate is derived from teachings in religion and by the interpretations of some people, that are very extreme in nature. Some sects of Islam differentiate in their views about literally every single thing. It is the same with homosexuality. However, almost all of them are very harsh preachings. The harshness differs but it is still there. When you condition and brainwash people into thinking that something is wrong, by overly exaggerating the why? this is what will happen. People that do these kinds of acts like killing people don't really think on their own, they're embedded with ideas, thoughts etc from other sources. Including other people.

Yasir Qadhi says in an Islamic state you can punish homosexuals. He has many followers. There are many other scholars, who have studied Islam extensively who say the same. For how long will the world be on our side? Soon they will run out of patience, and we will keep on parroting the same ingrained stuff, because to us it's more important to whitewash than to acknowledge that there is something with it, that is causing so many problems, not only in our part of the world, but also elsewhere.
Re: Omar Mateen a crazy person shoots 50 plus in a Gay Bar in Orlando Florida
To be honest, I am sick of these scholars who misinterpret things and then brainwash their followers. I am against parroting, or running away from issues and laying blame on someone or something else. First step in solving any issue or problem is acknowledgement, and I have always mentioned it everywhere.
