Magnificiant second half performance by Pakistan. Totally outclassed the Koream team. We are on top of the table and looking really good.
Another Important point to be noted that Pakistan got a total of three penalty corners. In first two, ball was not given to Sohail but to ghazanfar, a bit of variation. Unfortunately he missed those two but Sohail Abbas didnt miss the third one. Ten Goals in last two matches without conceding one, awesome signs indeed. Congratulations to all guppies ![]()
Masha’allah Well played PAK

**India take on mighty Australia in crucial tie **](http://www.planetfieldhockey.com/PFH/Item-View-13885-183)
Having survived a scare in the last match against South Africa, India go into a crucial group ‘B’ men’s hockey league match against strong contenders Australia here tomorrow, fully aware that any slip-up at this stage could jeopardise their hopes of an Olympic semi-final berth.
The Indians, who lost their opening encounter against Holland, were lucky to earn the full three points as they came from behind to score a 4-2 victory against South Africa last night riding on two goals in the last couple of minutes.
They will be determined to rectify the weak links against the Australians in what promises to be a pulsating floodlit contest at the Helliniko Hockey Centre.
The topsy-turvy results in the pool has actually come as a boon for the Indians as it has thrown up a variety of possibilities in the battle for a place in the semi-finals. It has also shown that the so-called weaker teams like South Africa and New Zealand could not be taken for granted.
The Argentinians have already done India a favour by holding Australia to a 2-2 draw in their last match yesterday, depriving the formidable Aussies of garnering full points which could prove costly when the semi-finalists are decided.
The defending champions Holland were leading the points table after two matches having won both their games to collect six points while Australia were placed second with four points. India and South Africa had three points to their credit and New Zealand were yet to open their account.
India’s coach Gerhard Rach must be a relieved man after the late goals against the South Africans esnured a victory for his team as any other result could have severely dented the players’ confidence in a big way.
The Indians, seeking to capture their ninth gold medal in the Olympic arena, have been a trifle patchy in the two matches they have played so far.
Barring goalkeeper Adrian D’Souza, none of the other players have shown the desired consistency so far and it remains to be seen whether the team can pick itself up for the tougher battles ahead.
Rach has promised a better show from his team this time around and will be hoping that his skillful forwards can start delivering before its too late.
Like in the opening match against Holland, the forwards were guilty of frittering away a number of chances that came their way against last night.
The ageing striker Dhanraj Pillay did have a good match and was responsible for reducing the margin after trailing by two goals early in the match. But the performance of the younger lot in the team like Gagan Ajit Singh, Deepak Thakur and Prabhjot singh needs some improvement.
Another veteran Baljeet Singh Dhillon managed to convert a penalty corner and the team is experimenting with him to do the job with Sandeep Singh still having problem with form and a hand injury.
Dutch Snatch Hockey Win, Pakistan Stun Korea
By Jane Barrett
ATHENS (Reuters) - Olympic champions the Netherlands snatched another last-minute victory on Thursday in the men’s hockey tournament in Athens and Pakistan stunned Sydney silver medallists South Korea 3-0 with fast-paced, attacking hockey.
The Netherlands are the only team not to have dropped a game so far but have kept their supporters on the edge of their seats in the last two by pulling ahead of South Africa only at the very end.
Going for their third Olympic gold in a row, the Dutch squeezed past 3-2 in an agonizingly long finale where they had to save three penalties after the final hooter.
“It’s nice to have nine points after three games but it would be nicer to bring those points to the ledger with a good performance level. I’m not pleased with the way we’re playing,” said Dutch coach Terry Walsh.
“There doesn’t seem to be that enthusiasm, drive and endeavor you should have at the Olympics.”
The Dutch went 2-0 down in the first 23 minutes and only fought back to win thanks to two disputed goals, one of which was ruled void and then reinstated.
“It felt like we had a stacked deck against us today,” said South African coach Paul Revington.
Pakistan against South Korea was always going to be a fast match and the first half was a game of cat and mouse with both teams attacking hard.
But Pakistan, delighting a raucous partisan crowd, returned to the field firing on all cylinders and picked apart the Korean defense to score two goals from the field and a screaming penalty from drag flicker Sohail Abbas.
“That was fantastic! Korea is very, very strong but we played fantastic hockey,” coach Roelant Oltmans said.
Pakistan have won six points from three matches and still have ninth-ranked Spain and unfancied Britain left to play in the pool stage.
This was Pakistan's first victoryn vs. Korea in the Olympics. Mashallah, keep it up, boys.
there Spain is thrashing GB - leading by 3-0....i think from this group if anybody can stop Pakistan then it is Spain - a very dangerous team
They are leading 4/0 now. Spain is playing superb hockey.
Brits pull back one
