Oldest profession ?

I do not agree it is what people normally think and say it is- namely prostitution.
What is your take on it ?
What do you think is the oldest profession on earth ? Please give your logic or reason for it to make it more meaningful.

Re: Oldest profession ?

Parenthood.

Re: Oldest profession ?

hunting and gathering

Re: Oldest profession ?

shepherding (for prophet)
sculpting for idolatry (common people)

Re: Oldest profession ?

We are talking about paid professions.
Parenthood not not paid and mostly a thankless job. No ?

Re: Oldest profession ?

well in olden days people exchange goods (2 sack of rice for one wheat etc). i think the idea of paying for services emerge lill late when history was written (in Egyptian times, and then greek i mean)

i cant really comment on prehistoric times.

Re: Oldest profession ?

Pls give us some reasons for why you don't think that prostitution is the oldest profession.

I think it makes perfect sense.

Initially people may be doing everything themselves. They'll hunt and they'll cook and they'll get leaves etc to cover their privates. But when it came to sexual pleasure, they need a partner. Some lady may have said "if you want to have sex with me, bring me some food, because I am hungry". Viola! Prostitution is born. Oldest Profession.

Re: Oldest profession ?

There was no mention of pay or thanklessness with jobs in the initial post.

Re: Oldest profession ?

***DENTIST............................:biggthumb

The tools were quite crude though............:)

However Hair dresser or like they say back home .......A Naee would be earlier.

Or even Wet Nurse would also be one of the early ones too!

Re: Oldest profession ?

I like the way you think . Very primitive.

Re: Oldest profession ?

^ All of you are trying too hard. :) Before hair, before teeth, and especially before wet nurse, came... sex. Its a no-brainer.

Re: Oldest profession ?

Can't be, because money wasn't invented back then.

Re: Oldest profession ?

^ What has money (especially printed bank notes) got to do with this. You can pay for services in kind. A coconut. leg roast of a deer. An orange. A pale of water.

Re: Oldest profession ?

Again I like the way you think.

Re: Oldest profession ?

isnt that how the concept of shadi was born :hmmm:

Re: Oldest profession ?

Logic dictates that marriage and fidelity must be a later concept. They are part of a refined civic society. We are talking earlier human beings.

Re: Oldest profession ?

***According to our religious tradition Baba Adam and Amma Hawa (ES) lived more than 1000 years.

You think after having been thrown out of Bahisht they would let their Children or grand children get into Prostitution while they were still alive...............:(

NO WAY.............NADA!

Re: Oldest profession ?

possibly their great grandchildren.

Re: Oldest profession ?

I think it’s agriculture…

Afterall, wasn’t Adam appointed by God to tend the garden of Eden… and later he was sent out of the garden to earth and asked to till the ground ??

“There is no ancient gentlemen, but gardeners, ditchers, and grave-makers; they hold up Adam's profession.” – Hamlet
