Re: Oldest profession ?

Please give your logic or reason for saying so to make it more meaningful.

Re: Oldest profession ?

Spying and locating lost people ... Amaah Haawa had hard time finding bawa Aadam .. hadnt she ... what she got paid for her efforts ... She got her husband back :D

Re: Oldest profession ?

weren't the earlier human beings hunter and gatherers? it's only after they settled down and started taming the cows and dogs did agriculture come into being. so it's still relatively new compared to hunting, or even prostitution.

Re: Oldest profession ?

in my mind to be fair prostitution isnt a profession as such but it has been the oldest method of making money for women, and dates back thousands of years. Many ppl mention hunting and gathering, but i disagree prostitution is by far the oldest profession known to mankind, which is sick and wrong but sadly true :(

Re: Oldest profession ?

Now someone please explain to me what is the difference between making money and profession ?

Re: Oldest profession ?

thr is definitely a diff between making money and a profession, sorry if i didnt clarify that, i just mean that although in this day in age prostitution is not deemed a profession and rightly so, it was back then as in hundereds of years ago it was seen as a profession,

Re: Oldest profession ?

I'm using the term "agriculture" very loosely... may be "gardening" would be a better term.

I think a profession is something you accept as a task in return for something that is valuable to you... and Faisal's given ample examples of barter based economies. So my premise is that Adam :Allaih: was assigned a particular task - to look after the garden of Eden... in return for God's bounties and favours.

So that makes gardening... Adam's :Allaih: profession.

Re: Oldest profession ?

but he didn't exactly do that did he? he got fired :D

Re: Oldest profession ?

exactly

i think that before all else is the need for survival, and for survival you need food, so would the gathering of food not be the oldest profession, isnt a profession what you do to stay alive?

edit : maybe the building of shelters would be the oldest profession?

Re: Oldest profession ?

Did the concept of "profession" or "prostitution" exist back then?

Re: Oldest profession ?

:) true that... so all the more... it was "unprofessional" :)

Re: Oldest profession ?

yeah when ever husbands used to get mad, the use to say "you are a wh-re"
