Too much oil in everything . A cultural shock you’ll face when you’ll come to Pakistan . I need a recipe for Chicken curry with zero oil in it , but should be as good as our traditional chicken curry .
Much appreciated ![]()

Re: Oil-less Chicken Curry
OK, here you go.
Take oil spray (like we have PAM in USA). You can make your own by putting canola or EVOO in a spray bottle. Just coat a non stick pan and put in chicken pieces, garlic and ginger and fry on low-med flame until no longer kacha. Then add onions, fry until onions are no longer transparent, add spices and cook. Then add tomato puree, some water, cover and cook until done.

^ But what about the oil floating on the top…i need to see a thick layer of oil floating on the top! ![]()

Re: Oil-less Chicken Curry
You can use one Tbs oil to sautee the onions and use it to make the curry regular way. Bhoonify the chicken well in the curry and then add yougrt, bhonify some more and let it cook on slow for 10 mins. Very tasty and healthy chicken.
Re: Oil-less Chicken Curry
A few times I've bhooned onions without any oil (like when boiling keema or meat), and the onions brown faster and just smell so good....i have yet to try cooking a salan without any oil but I would love to try it soon.
Re: Oil-less Chicken Curry
^^ they don't brown but get tender.
Yes, you can make curry without oil, I will try to post a recipe if I am not too lazy :D

Re: Oil-less Chicken Curry
If u dont use oil wont it stick to the pan?
why dont u just use a lil "extra virgin olive oil" instead?
I usually just use Kitchen Towel to soak up all the oil from my salaan

Nice idea . I usually tilt salan a bit and take oil out of it . But still this oil taste is not very appealing to me . :
Re: Oil-less Chicken Curry
I don't use that much oil... definitely not more than half a cup. That's enough when making saalan for a family.
Re: Oil-less Chicken Curry
Well I made oil less curry today. It looked beautiful but when I tried it, it tasted like diet curry :D It was okay for me but my dad today agreed to have chicken curry like after 4 months and I don't want him to say to chicken curry for another 4 months, so I decided to add 2 tbsps of cooked oil in it, bhoonafied/look cooked it on medium heat for 10 mins. After that it started tasting like regular curry but was quite light and delish!
I would say instead of making your family go oil-less, have them reduce the quantity of oil to 1 or 2 tbsp just for the glazing kind of purpose.
