Oil Cleansing Method

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

alot of people use OCM daily as their regular cleanser.. as soon as I buy my ingredients, that’s what I’ll be doing as well

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

Question to those of you who mix oils: What specific benefits do you receive by mixing as opposed to using a single oil? And what lead you to choose the particular oils you use?

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

Olive oil is good for dry skin, I usually apply it as a hand lotion before going to bed, makes my hand so soft and my skin shiny. Rosehip oil is next on my list,a secret oil that keeps skin young and glowy.

I apply Vitamin C, Moisturiser and BB Cream in the morning, would follow OCM daily. Do you use any face wash afterwards as the face might get too sticky? My normal routine is that I don’t wash face daily with face wash in the morning since my skin is dry and I like to keep natural oils of skin. I clean, wash, tone, moisturise skin before going to bed at night. In the morning, I splash water, clean and apply the above i mentioned. Some days I wash face in the morning too, it all depends. Am i doing anything wrong somewhere?

I have never used oils to clean face before, I use hot maslin cloth cleanser which has worked for me. Lately, I have been reading about OCM so i decided to give it a go.

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

Would coconut oil get the job done?

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

In the mornings I usually splash face with cold water. If my face feels dirty or oily, I put some witch hazel in a cotton pad and use that to clean. I use Dickinson’s 100% Witch Hazel toner.

I don’t use face wash after OCM. It should not leave your face sticky. I apply the oil on face generously and rub in circular motions for several minutes. Then I turn not he tap water to hot water and run a face towel under it. I squeeze the hot water out, put that face on my face for a few seconds and gently wipe. I repeat this 3-4 times. My face feels very soft afterwards but never sticky.

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

it’s like killing 2 birds with one stone when it comes to mixing oils.. same as mixing oils for your hair.. instead of waiting to get all the benefits of rosehip oil tonight, and coconut oil tomorrow for example, it’s better and more convenient to mix the two together, and use it at the same time.

here is a guide to help you understand what oils work best for you. there is a science to which oils you should be using, and this page explains it wonderfully.

this page is targeted for acne skin, but gives information on all types of skin, and the kind(s) of oils you should use to fix your problems

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

It was on sale at the grocery store.

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

At the moment, I am using Clinic’s toner. Would it be a good idea to wash face using mild facial foam after OCM since I don’t like using any facial wash in the morning?

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

It’s not necessarily good or bad. You can use the foam after OCM if you want to. Question is why do you think you need to use it? What do you think the face wash will do that’s not already being done by the OCM?

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

But isn’t the purpose of OCM to deep clean the pores? And how would you get the long term benefits of oils if it’s being removed immediately?

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

so, that’s my theory with face washes.. it really doesn’t matter what you use, the $2 face cleanser from Walmart, or the $30 one from Sephora, at the end, you are literally washing it down the drain. So, heck yeah, I only buy the cheapest cleansers and invest in good moisturizers as well (currently using only organic moisturizers, oil, and organic/mineral sunscreen).

ocm is a deep cleanser because it melts all your makeup, dirt, whatever is on your face. there is no need to use anything else, unless it’s a toner of some sort to remove any residue (again, not necessary).

however, with the oil, it makes a slight difference which ones u use because not everyone removes the oil completely after cleansing OR, they use that same oil as a moisturizer as well. that is how you get the long term benefits. also, unlike traditional cleansers, there are no chemicals and other harmful ingredients going into your skin.

so, if you are oily, you would want an oil that is a bit drying so it helps in controlling the oil. or, if you are dry, use a more nourishing oil, etc etc. Look at the site I posted a few posts above, it is very informative and all true !

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

Ok so is what I’m getting at. For example: Let’s say I have Pure Jojoba and Pure Rosehip or Argan oil. Rosehip/Argan is a more expensive oil compared to jojoba. If I’m doing OCM where I move the oil with a steamy wet cloth (which is what the author of the article you posted does too), then there’s no reason for me to use Rosehip to do OCM. I should just use the Jojoba oil for OCM and use Rosehip on it’s own as a moisturizer. Right?

Question: How does someone not remove the oil completely during OCM? I’ve only read about people using a hot wet towel to remove the oil which is what I do.

I got curious about this b/c I see that several of you mix castor and olive OR do % of 3-4 different oils for OCM. That got me wondering what the point was since the oil is being removed with a towel immediately. I suppose I can see this if the person wants use the same bottle of oil to moisturize but seems like a bit of a waste if a more expensive oil is being mixed in just to get removed after OCM.

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

Right !

some people choose as a personal preference not to remove it completely and leave a little on as a moisturizer. but you are supposed to take it all off and then apply more if you want as a moisturizer.

and you are right again about the wastage of the more expensive oil as part of the cleaning.. i personally would use a less expensive one for the cleansing, and moisturize with the more expensive/and/or/better moisturizing oil for moisturizing

people just get fancy with ocm..by using essential oils, adding beeswax, making solid versions of the liquid oils, and other random stuff… at the end of the day, you can just use two, or even one oil. the whole point of ocm is to clean your face with oil, thats it. easy and simple

i’ve already been cleaning off my eye makeup with baby oil for yearsssssss, i think buying makeup remover for eyes is a complete waste of money, when baby oil (or any other oil) does the **best **job for ANY makeup !

ocm just extends that idea for your whole face

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

have you ever bought oils online? if not, I highly highly highly recommend Amazon, that’s where I buy all of mine from.. it’s cheaper and I don’t have to go around retail stores looking for what I need, for both skin and hair !

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

Yes. Actually, I’ve always bought oils online lol. I’ve been using Garden of Wisdom for all my oils for the past few years. Always been happy with their service, quality and pricing. I also love that they have a large selection to choose from and that I can buy oil in different quantities…makes it very easy to try several different types of oils without shelling out a lot of money. I also love the descriptions they provide under each oil…and they even help you choose if you call them; I once called b/c I was trying to figure out which Camelia oil I should order lol.

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

Baby Oil is a really bad idea. It’s a mineral oil derived from petroleum and personally I wouldn’t use it on my baby let alone my eyes.

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

^^ in that case, any oil can be used  for great benefits

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

I always wondered if olive oil is from olives and coconut oil is from coconuts, then where does baby oil come from…

Re: Oil Cleansing Method

It has been a week since i sarted using OCM, my skin feels so smooth and clean. Hardly used foam, did not feel the need of using it daily. These are the oils I mixed together avocado, castor, olive and almond oil. Using oil for moisturising purpose, I am thinking of getting rosehip oil, what other oils would you recommend ?
