Yes ppl by usin the new compression too KGB ARCHIEVER a 459.7 mb file is compressed all the way to 1.46 mb, I got my hands on the 1.46 mb file and the extraction took 5hrs and 23 mins the only prob is th eosetup.dll the fix provided is not working and is 7mb if ne1 has it please lemme know
BTW this tool seems great and wonder if we would be able to compress video files by that much too
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
^^
really
you sure you didnt forget to type the extra #?
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
This would be a revolution in the times of 1.44mb floppy disks. but now we have 4.7GB DVD and very soon Blu-ray disks which can hold upto 50GB of data. So who would wnt to wait 5 hours or longer for a movie to extract.
Its a waste of processing power too.
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
It will wait until the processing power catch up
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
man I am notlying its 1.4 mb I can even post th efile if u guys want with KGB archiever and the office file as well as the fix but it doesnt work
it extract all the way to 450.7 mb but the osetup file is corrupt, plus who cares bout processin power if u leave it over night
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
compress it (5 hrs)
transfer it (1 minute)
decompress it (5 hrs)
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
How long would it take to transfer without compressing?
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
exactly!
we are not on a 56k modem anymore.
Well, For me it would take like 10-12 minutes. ![]()
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
if its on a M$ or zdnet server it would take about a minute or 2 for me. ![]()
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
^-- well under ideal conditions it would take less than that for me too ![]()
what kinda connection you have Tofi?
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
KGB archiver needs some serious memeory. Intresting project but dont think I will use it much or at all unless their is some reason I must compress to get a few more % out.
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
We have a 100mb ethernet
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
a days before yesterday I download Mandriva, 650 mb took around 1 minute & 20 seconds ... God knows what type of connection my company has (internal connection is 1GB).
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
Lol, what’s ur ideal condition? If you’re sitting in front of the computer with a Firewire 2.0 connection to the server? ![]()
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
So, here we are actually taking about the compression software (and showing off our internet speeds) and not really much about Office 2006 Beta.
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
Nice but late.
Good for 56k users.
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
Is this so-called Office 2006, the same as the much hyped Office "12" or what will ultimately be called Office 2007?
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
yes lekin can some1 please post the osetup.dll fixer
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
I think this is a great project (the compressor that is) i see a whole lot of uses for it in coming years.. and those of you who say that having a broadband connection makes this useless .. think again... for countries where highspeed is not that affordable (and i do include Canada and USA in it) .. this sort of technology can be used to deliver content faster..
also since its an opensource project i am sure they will get around the high hardware requirements and in coming years this will be improved signicantly.. and think of all the ways you can deliver data on mobile (wireless networks) ..
Sorry Khiska-howa.. dont' have that dll file..
Re: Office 2006 beta 1.4 mb u heard it rite
Brilliant. If I remember correctly, the password protection scheme implemented in KGB is much stronger compared to other compression engines.
I don't think you can compress a video file that much.
