So in all honesty, has racism ever been hindrance at any point in your life say school, career, workplace or generally any place? Esp living as expats in other countries?
I have occasionally heard from some people arond me of incidents where they were subject to varied degrees of resentment and obvious change of attitude once they told their names or tell they were from Pakistan in hospitals or public places such as museums etc.
Coming to Pakistan, obviously we haven’t been subject to religious or racial prejudice being Muslim Alhamdullilah. But in Pakistan the cliched status strata people have been divided into causes a lot of people problems and *sifarish *and *rishwat *is rampant. So in conclusion the grass isn’t usually greener on the other side.

Nope. The only time I faced racism was in my own country when this matarwaa decided to appear as an applicant before the Inter Services Selection Board to became an army officer.
never experienced racism anywhere (should I say alhamdulilah)...not bragging about myself but I think it might be because I'm very polite to people in general. dunno

Oh yes, you must be right cause in my case I was giving the army section officers maan behen kee gailyaan and one finger salute when I entered the room. No wonder they appeared racist to me rolling eyes

Would you mind sharing the details. I'd like to know how and what happened?
On topic - umm I don't think so but if one nitpicks everything they can come up with examples.
Basically I was being ridiculed for even thinking about becoming an army officer, being a boy from Karachi.
Oh :/ Why aren't there people from Karachi in the army? In any case that's sad to hear - Pakistani army is kinda full of themselves for being all proper and what not. Ofcouse that doesn't include my family members. Okay, who am i kidding they are full of themselves too except my Mamoo.
I dont know about now but first of all, we had Quota system in Army, then Sindh Quota was further divided into Sindh Rural and Sindh Urban. That was specifically to push people from Karachi/Hyderabad/Sukkur against the wall as their quota turned out to be 2%. SO for every 100 seats, only 2 people from Karachi can be selected. In the batch that I applied in, we were about 150 people from all over Pakistan. Only 1 boy from Karachi was selected and his father was a senior army officer.
So our army is not consist of people based on merit, its selection is based upon which language is your mother tongue. No wonder we are where we are as a nation.

Wow, just 2%? This horribly low. I don't think its entirely based on language though - merit does play a major role.
I think the Army bias is a leftover from the Martial Race days. The British would segregate Indians based on caste, tribe, and ethnicity. High caste Hindus were seen as unfit for duty whereas Punjabis and Pashtuns were seen as better fighters.
Now I'm not sure about this part, but on Wiki it also states that the Pakistani army held this belief in their superiority to Hindus, and was part of their justification for attacking a much larger country.
Yup, when I was in Elementary school. The whole 9/11 incident happened and for then on till like 8th grade (when those lil rats finally matured up). I was called Osama's granddaughter, sister, i was told he was my neighbor and all that jazz. It was def hurtful but now it doesn't effect me, what else do you expect from an age group of 9-13 year olds . lol

Merit/Sifarish/Source - all would play within 2% limit. Off course if you are a high profile officer, you can bypass that 2% by changing the domicile certificate of your son and have him come in through Sindh Rural or Punjab or some other quota.
