Of identity and racism

Re: Of identity and racism

In india there is no reservation in armed forces, only place where high castes cannot be discrimated against on the basis of reservation. We jatts make up nearly 10% of it, followed by pundas I think, they are at 9% :)

Re: Of identity and racism

You are some what wrong. There is no reservation in the army officers, however there is reservation in the some of the regiments:

  • Sikh Light Infantry: Dalit Sikhs (Chamar & Chura castes)
  • Sikh Regiment: Mostly Jatt and othe non-dalit Sikhs
  • Mahar Regiment: Dalit hindus from Mahar caste of Maharashtra
  • Jatt Regiment: Mostly jat hindus
  • Rajput Regiment: Mostly hindu rajputs
  • Gorkha Rifles: Gorkha hindus only
  • Naga Regiment: Naga tribe hindu/christians only
  • Ladakh Scouts: Ladakh & Tibetans only
  • Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry: 50% reservation of kashmiri muslims and rest of kashmiris only
  • Dogra Regiment: Only for Dogra people

Re: Of identity and racism

Karachi zindabad.
It's a good thing you didn't make it, or I'd hate you for gobbling up all our resources.
Pakistan spends too much money on it's army.

Re: Of identity and racism

Canadians know their history. British picked winnners and losers.

Of identity and racism

Not sure about the discussion above, didnt read the posts but answering OPs first question:

Have never experienced racism as a hindrance factor in my life but never really felt judged or victimized for it while living in Canada. I only really started to feel the affects of cultural intolerance in the states and actually just a few weeks ago, for the first time ever fell victim to some cruel words for no reason. Was pulling out of a target parking lot when an angry moron cyclist thought I was in his path as I was making a turn into traffic and I didn't even notice until he showed up in front of my car yelling, (excuse my language as i am quoting because ill never forget) you effing idiot the line was back there you effing dirty paki, effing Arab terrorist something something something .... I started honking at him so I didn't hear the rest. Had never experienced anyone say anything like that to me ever so it was very upsetting. It was some white guy on his peddle bike riding on the side walk, idiot couldn't see the cross walk was way behind me, I was making a turn into traffic, how could I have done it without creeping up to the curb side of the road. I cried when I told my husband because I was a little disturbed. Coming from Canada I never felt the racial divide as much as I have in the states.

Re: Of identity and racism

I was talking about officers cadre only, the one which becomes general, regional based recruitment is only in infantry not in either artillery, mecahnized divisions. same is true for other corps. Many of yadavs are found in Jat and J&K regiment, all regiments of J&K are populated by UP wallas.

Re: Of identity and racism

I was in Brighton in 2003 and hanging out with my niqabi friend and her husband at the beach....a group of white men saw her and started making fun of niqab by calling it mask. I was in shalwar Kameez and duppatta but was spared. She stopped wearing niqab for the rest of the period she remained in UK.

Re: Of identity and racism

what would she have done if they made fun of shalwar kameez?

Re: Of identity and racism

Racism? yes in Pakistan due to our religious belief. People who are usually jahils with no education anyway.

Re: Of identity and racism

S and S - clearly guy was a piece of work.

But I think when you merge into traffic from a parking lot, you have to be aware of pedestrians and cyclists on sidewalk. If he is on sidewalk he is either to ur left or right not behind.

Re: Of identity and racism

Show them middle finger?.....dunno.
