Re: ODI Captain post World Cup
People should not make the team JUST BECAUSE they were not in the team of the world cup.
Shoaib Malik has no recent good performances, what is the basis to include him in the team now??
Rather than include youngsters (guys in their low 20’s), why do you people insist on 30+ yr olds to be included now, and therefore again repeat the same old cycle…no performances, no skills/techniques, just parchi’s and commercials.
If you make these people captain, by next world cup you will be looking at finding another captain…
Fitness should be #1](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) . No matter who, it player is not fit, shouldn’t be in the team no matter what

That even i can tell you without inside source
Re: ODI Captain post World Cup
After all the daring response from Wahab against the pressure of Aussies' sledging, he totally should be the leader of the team.
The only problem is his fitness and ability to be in final XI in ODIs played in subcontinent or UAE wickets.
Re: ODI Captain post World Cup
Wahab Riaz has that spark, has the aggression and an attacking mind set
Give him a bunch of reliable batsmen who can post decent totals, and he will turn around this team.
Traditionally Pakistan has always rode on the shoulders of the pace attack.
We have a long tradition going back decades, Sarfaraz (the father of reverse swing), Imran, Waseem, Waqar, Shoaib, and now this current battery of the left arm seamers, who promise be a force to reckon with. Actually Wahab single handedly almost snatched the QF away - best spell I ever saw, reminded me of the 2 W's era.
Our batting has never show spine in any format, save for occasional rare cameos. It would be better to give the captaincy to one of the Pace men.
Re: ODI Captain post World Cup
We need a captain who has fire, (controlled) aggression, grit and true passion
Wahab could be that man
Teary-eyed Wahab at the end of Australia match with the two offenders (Rahat and Sohail) who dropped dollies

Re: ODI Captain post World Cup
Some sources are now saying Azhar Ali is leading the race to be the next captain.
Re: ODI Captain post World Cup
wahab riaz was not first choice bowler in presence of junaid , amir or even umar gul. His pace worked in aussie condition. He will have shear phenti in UAE unless pithces are made fast.
Azhar ali shud be captain . YK shud be out of ODI team. Sarfraz shud be vice captain. we need a geniune all rounder ( better a spinning all rounder) a real replacement of HAfeez. Lets see how all this banning of spinners goes. Main purpose is achieved ( PK team weakened . India sure for Semis )
The problem is there are just so many 30+ years olds. They won't be here for long but for now Fawad or Azhar would work.

That applies to ALL pace bowlers btw. Johnson was ineffective in the recent test series vs Pak in UAE. Even Steyn struggled in UAE. Lillee was ineffective in Pakistan.
But if you consistently bowl at 150+ kph you will trouble most batsmen on any surface. And if you can reverse swing the old ball (which Wahab clearly can now) you take the pitch out of the equation.
Azhar Ali's game is not suited to ODI cricket. He is another tuk tuk player. I would make Wahab or Sarfraz (but it might be expecting too much of him to keep, open and lead as well) ODI captain. Dhoni has done extremely well as ODI skipper so let's wait and see.

Talking of pitches Indian batting has recently benefited from
PCB needs to prepare better pitches in UAE
Re: ODI Captain post World Cup
Has to be Hafeez in short term IF he can sort out his bowling action though.
All those saying Sarfraz and Wahab, please watch them play for a year and then make your mind whether you want them as captains. Sarfraz has great attitude and like his aggressive approach but if you have followed his career, he is not a great wicket keeper (dropped few key catches). Wahab may not be that effective on subcontinent pitches so won't be surprised if he loses his place in 11 after 10-15 games.
Azhar Ali has strike rate of 65 which alone is reason he should never be our captain, even Misbah had SR close to 70.
Fawad Alam should be included in the squad and he is my choice as captain in medium to long term. He is a fighter, great fielder, good domestic record and has captained Khi for number of years.

Hafeez, like Afridi, is notorious for having sub-groups in team, lobying and playing politics. Abdul Razzaq was the first to blow the whistle but since then he's out of team. We certainly dont want this.
Agreed about Wahab but whoever is suggesting this (including myself) is after seeing his highly positive and fighting attitude what we really need in a leader. And Fawad Alam can be the one too but definitely the board authorities (who are the real culprit behind this mess btw) wont approve it ever.

Afridi and Malik had sub groups but never heard about Hafeez forming sub groups. He comes across quite a level headed person. Having said that, he doesn't deserve to be in the team as pure batsman so he is best option only if he can clear his bowling action.
People are suggesting Sarfraz and Wahab high on emotions (huge respect for both) but both have never been REGULARS in our ODI squad.
Re: ODI Captain post World Cup
Hafeez was not involved in creating any groups within the team. It was always Yousuf and Afridi who created groups and were involved with politics within the team. Afridi was by far the biggest culprit. Good riddance he is retired and I hope he stays retired.
Having said that, I still think Hafeez should not be the captain nor should he be in the team. With him being banned from bowling, he just isn't a good enough batsman to make it to the team.
Azhar Ali is an educated and a level headed guy. He is basically a clone of Misbah. He would be the safe choice as captain and I can see why Misbah would recommend him or PCB would name him captain.
But I would personally like PCB to experiment with a younger captain and someone like Sarfraz/Wahab/Alam should be made captain and all the trouble makers like Akmal and Shahzad should be dropped immediately.
Re: ODI Captain post World Cup
I see wahab as strong contender for captain..coz we do need aggressive fella to be captain. Second option would be Ahmad Shahzad or Fawad Alam. I would say..it would be highly unlikely.
Re: ODI Captain post World Cup
Hafeez can be captain on flat tracks. But don't let him go anywhere near Dolly Parton.

Captain on flat tracks hahahahha then we can have captain for bouncy pitches and another one for seaming pitches :) Hafzeez should only be considered as captain if he can clear his bowling action otherwise he shouldn't even be part of playing 11.

Agreed
yes good spell from wahab but remember wahab was struggling to make it to playing eleven just 5 weeks ago. Aggression is one thing and captaincy is another thing.
Is he an automtaic choice for our playing eleven on UAE/SL/BD pitches once junaid, aamir and irfan are back? I am not sure sure about it. He has pace and bounce and hits the deck hard but not enough variation to succeed on slow pitches.
Unlike many countries, Pak is a tough country to captain. You need certain level of maturity and cool mind to do it. Has he ver captained in first class? how was his record.
