Now, this has been thrown around enough times. For something said slanderous, derogatory, false, outrageous, and/or atrocious by some mullah or as such, you get to hear, “It’s just an opinion” or “everybody is entitled his opinion” etc etc in defense.

First of all, this is not really a “logical” argument of defense. If “opinions” were as harmless as you make them out to be then this world would have been a lot better place.

Secondly, by the same rationale, if having an opinion is basic entitlement then onslaught of it is also an opinion, right? So you get nowhere. It’s circular and obtuse. Thickheadedness also comes to mind to describe it.

Thirdly, I ask, O thee holies of the holiest, that why does it burn you on places it shouldn’t when an infidel expresses his opinion on your religion, God, or prophet?

It’s just an opinion, yeh?

The same way it burns you when I remind you that if you dish it out, you better be prepared to take it. It seems as if people want to make fun of all things religious (mainly Islam) and when the other party replies in kind they start wetting their pants and cry "discrimination, close mindedness, hidden agenda, partial mods, not tolerant of other opinions"....I can go on and on but I am sure you have gotten the jist of it. So chill out in this "social" month (for you, religious for me) of Ramazan and enjoy Allah's blessings.

Roman, true everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if that opinion is peppered with ignorant insults, then it’s not an opinion…It is a direct attack…Literate people understand the difference…

Case in point: The most ignorant person I find on this board is Pinstripe Danda…He holds opinions but cannot express them lucidly…Due to this handicap the only thing that he resorts to is outright insults against anything…Religion, politics, opinions e.t.c. if he doesn’t agree with it, he insults it…Never disagrees…

Seminole is a teeth gritter…He neither insults nor is lucid in expressing his opinion…He just writes something which is meant to hurt you to the point of you thinking about it…I, however, still consider his remarks as opinions, despite them not being so and respond with as much clarity as possible…The same can be said for Stu…

rvikz is an example of someone who holds opinions and is most polite and lucid in expressing them, even when he is completely opposed to them…Especially if the matter concerns Islam, he words his rebuttals and refusals most politely…Minah_Pa too falls in this category…

OG, UTD and Mo3, are very vocal about their opinions…OG can tend to have violent tendencies (midwestern redneckedness), but overall, they are all very clear when it comes to expressing themselves without having to resort to insults…

Let me give you an example of an opinion and something which is not an opinion but an insult and an insinuation…I’ll use Pinstripe Danda as my example:

In a thread in religion about non-Muslims going to hellfire, he posted maybe 5 or 6 times…And in each instance he made open and veiled insults against Islam and Allah :swt:…

Now, going through those posts of his, you can see he is not very happy with Islam and Muslims…That much is very clear…But, try and see why he is unhappy with them? You will never find out…Because they were’t opinions, but insults…Anyone can see that…

Let’s take this scenario: I have an agreement with your dad about him not allowing me to come over to your house and play…

Opinion: Roman, man, what the heck is wrong with your father? I come, I behave, and yet he seems to be always angry at me…Do you think I did something wrong? I hate it…Everytime I come over, he is like, go away…You know what? I am not coming to your house anymore…Screw you…

Ignorance: Roman, man, what the heck is wrong with your father? I think he’s an childish brat who needs to be given a chusni and be sent to bed…He needs to be whiplashed and kicked hard, the moron…Screw you…

In the first, you know why I am upset, what can be done about it and what will be done…That is an opinion about many things…

In the second, your dad is the object of an opinion, not his actions…

Now we know, we never hold opinions about people or personalities (In Islam at least)…Coz a person sweet to you might be an idiot for someone else…

Opinions can be about anything and anybody…But the second that opinion becomes personal, it ceases to remain an opinion…It becomes bias…

Or we could request all threads are split into two each - one for those who are not offended by opinions and the other for those who do.

If that doesn't solve it, we will split them into four based on how many sides the issue has ...and so on. This approach is guarenteed to resolve any issue at that point when we personalize each thread to one per participant.

At that exalted level of debate, everyone will be happy

Once again Lajawab, your interpretation is all wrong. While your intention may be for your posts (opinions) to not offend, they are extremely offensive to the objects (non-Muslims, Americans, moderate Muslims, free thinkers, etc) of your disdain. Just because you have 100% conviction in your beliefs doesn't make them any less offensive (or correct) to the causes and people you despise.

The only thing I hate is arrogance, especially when it comes with a big dose of ignorance and intolerance. You always try to make out those who are intolerant of the intolerant as intolerant. That just doesn't make sense. Case in point is your indignation of PD's exasperation over the fundamentalist view tht non-Muslims will go to hell. It's ok for you to tell someone they are going to hell, but that person doesn't have the right to react to that? What makes your interpretation of religion more sanctimonious than you banning him to hell? What gives you the right to trump his beliefs? When you are telling someone they are going to hell you really don't have any defense to how they respond to the deity that you worship that tells you that. The door is wide open at that point. Your opinion is he is going to hell - his opinion is that is the oppsosite of how God and spirituality operates.

You say he "he is not very happy with Islam and Muslims". Well how happy are you with non-Muslims or moderate Muslims? Post by post your hatred for them is evident.

I don't post to hurt anyone but to make them think. In your case to try and shed some light on what appears to be a dark soul of hatred for others. (There's an opinion for you.) I am opnionated as anyone, but as opposed to you and the other closed-minded fundamentalists, most of it is up for discussion and review. I don't pretend to have the answers to it all or even access to one ancient book that will have all the answers.
