PCG, yeah I've been taught by some as well. My ethics and law philosophy profs were women. But the fact remains, most of the philosophers in textbooks are men, overwhelmingly so. If women do contribute, they contribute on feminism and female subjugation at the hands of organized religion and men, never anything else. I am talking about religious philosophy here.

Chandbeti, bravo, you’ve hit the nail right on the head. Yes I’m very insecure, fickle, narcissistic, whiny, and a royal bitch to boot. In fact, I am also very selfish, short sighted, occasionally dumb, mostly rude, very impolite, uncaring, negative, pessimistic, opposite of optimistic, I’m sure you the point.

I am unapologetically, unashamedly, proudly every thing bad in your lexicon. One thing I am not though is a gossip. That despicable habit I leave for the rest of the women in this world.

hm, I wouldn’t say you are all of that, but you sure are a woman who keeps harping about imperfections of other women. But you know what, you don’t linger on outward, superficial imperfections such as bad hair or big ass, you dig deeper, you focus on the inner aspects. Such as their bitchiness, jealousy, dumbness … well, you get the point.

Sarah, you made a lot of good points, the pendulum of feminism has swung so far over it is ridiculous. I have said before that it is almost a trend now that men are portrayed as idiots who need a women to save them and cratures with no control in popular media.

For the reasons you mention, feminism as a ‘trend’ is a waste of time. There are a lot of women who become trendy this way and they focus on the stupidest things like the use of pronouns or issues belonging to another country.

Putting all that aside however, the reason you can vote, get a job you like and be paid a living wage is because of feminists. The reason there are now paid maturnity leaves on a job is because of feminists, the reason there are now tougher laws against rape, domestic abuse, and child abuse is because of feminists.

Kind of a necessary evil in a way.

It’s too bad you are too young to remember what it was like to have that glass ceiling or even what it felt like to work in a male environmnt with guys who grope you when your hands are full and have your supervsor laugh along with them because he was, well, one of the boys. Or how about the man who is supposed to train you walking off a line because he didn’t want to train no c*nt.

How about the times when you could be told the reason you couldn’t get a job was because you could leave and get married and they couldn’t afford to take that chance. If you had children, they didn’t want to hire you because you might need a sick day to take a kid to the doctor.

I lived and heard almost all of these. I have been working since the 70’s and things have changed quite a bit since then because of feminists.

Today there are issues more important than the things you raised. Frankly I could care less about the pronouns we use, if a woman leads prayer, if a woman is pope, or any of those things that are ‘trendy’. I would rather see that the freedoms we have and the younger generation constantly take for granted in their selfishness stay the way they are and improve a few. Like the laws for child molesters and rape laws and the funding needed for both. As a feminist, that is what I fight for.

Doesn't negate the fact that I really do think she has a point about the 'trendy' feminists and agree with some of what she says. But dismissing the work of two generations because of the airheads is, well, to use your word, patronizing.

Nescio you are confusing belief with advocacy. Advocacy requires tangible “noise” to make sure the issues are brought forth and policies affected. It took rallies and marches in the 70’s to get Title IX passed in the NCAA, that meant that finally women’s sports were given the same amount of monies and afforded the same amount of scholarships to women atheletes that men enjoyed for years. That means that should I have a daughter, and if she excels in swimming or basketball, that she has the opportunity to achieve her full potential.

Every woman needs to be a feminist. Progress had been made, because of those spoke up and asked for change based on logic. Kind of like progress will be made when women become priests and imams, because logic says women are no less capable of spirituality.

As for those who think feminism is a dirty word, you are self loathing biyatches.

I have no issue with feminism so long as women dont give up themselves in the process. Im all for feminism - only if a female can be an equal by being just that -a female.

I think you're saying the same thing every other feminist is. Do you see most feminists rejecting their roles as moms? No. They want to be good moms. They have nice neat homes too. The only thing that feminists really argue against men about is that men have historically taken away their God-given right to CHOICE.

That is, if I want to take a walk at 9 pm at night, my husband can't tell me "ghar mein behto - bahar nahi jaa sakti ho".

If I want to take up a job, no guy can hinder me. That if I apply for a job or work hard in school, etc - no one can give a guy greater reward because he's a guy - no one can refuse to hire me because I'm a female.

Sure there are extreme offshoots here and there, but aren't there extreme men as well? Would you judge all Germans by Hitler?
