Obsessed

The more displeasure I have of encountering women in philosophy, the more I think women are whining narcissists who do not really have anything of substance to say. First of all, there are hardly any women philosophers. Now I am sure in this day and age, there is no one holding them back from going into such a field so the only answer is that they are dumb. Second, they rarely have anything of consequence to add to the literature and debates in philsophy, and here I talk about philosophy of religion, except to cry foul. They cry and beat their chests over God being refered to as He and say that is perpetuating female subservience, and that is the end of their contribution. And example is Rosemary Reuther, who crituqed Christianity from a feminist point of view. Aside from bemoaning religious cannon’s emphasis on male Godspeak and male Christ, she cries about women being portrayed as less spiritual than men. Okay fine, I can accept that, that’s plausible because Chrisitianity does subjgate women but lady, you are too late. The world has moved on, barely anyone practices Chrisitianity in its full form anymore, get with the times and participate in some intellectual thinking instead of your constant whining about women this, women that. Stop crying about God being portrayed in statues as a wise old man. S what. Do you see people kneeling and praying down to the wise old man anymore. Do you think that instead of literature calling God a Goddess and She instead of He will actually add anything to the debates or enrich them?

Why are feminists STILL stuck in the same rut, identifying themselves as victims and crying like hysterical banshees. I mean if society sees you as so inferior, shouldn’t you prove them wrong and actually contribute to stuff that makes the world go round instead of incessant questioning and lamenting.

Re: Obsessed

I am a woman and would rather be recognized as one. I refuse to do anything to jeopardize the essentials of being a woman just so that I am seen as an equal to men. :snooty:

(Ps Sarah you just changed your sig, I was going to ask about the other one!)

Re: Obsessed

It's from one of my favorite songs, Naveed by Our Lady Peace.

Re: Obsessed

what if god was one of us... like a stranger on the bus ...tryina make his home...

Re: Obsessed

God is a gardener. He has created a garden of flowers in the middle of a forest, feminists are the weeds in that garden. Let's sit on wrought iron chairs there and sup of tea and thin cucumber sandwiches.

Re: Obsessed

Great people talk about ideas.

Mediocre people talk about things.

Lowly people talk about other people.

Women talk about other women.
:)

Re: Obsessed

Sarah I liked your last signature about Gloria Steinem :)

Re: Obsessed

Thanks sarah for bringing it up. Feminisn has become a trend for 75% of women. I don't know who they are trying to get back at? They are very conscious of their role in religion and society, which is good but not when you start questioning God's authority. Everything happens for a reason, women are yet to find out why. Let bygones be bygones! It could be worse!

Re: Obsessed

Feminism exists because some women lack purpose in their lives. What’s next? Rasing hell about why God is referred to as He and not She?

Re: Obsessed

^ thats already been raised

Re: Obsessed

^ why am i not suprised

Re: Obsessed

^ the God is he/she debate has been going on ever since i could remember...

Re: Obsessed

Sarah, you made a lot of good points, the pendulum of feminism has swung so far over it is ridiculous. I have said before that it is almost a trend now that men are portrayed as idiots who need a women to save them and cratures with no control in popular media.

For the reasons you mention, feminism as a 'trend' is a waste of time. There are a lot of women who become trendy this way and they focus on the stupidest things like the use of pronouns or issues belonging to another country.

Putting all that aside however, the reason you can vote, get a job you like and be paid a living wage is because of feminists. The reason there are now paid maturnity leaves on a job is because of feminists, the reason there are now tougher laws against rape, domestic abuse, and child abuse is because of feminists.

Kind of a necessary evil in a way.

It's too bad you are too young to remember what it was like to have that glass ceiling or even what it felt like to work in a male environmnt with guys who grope you when your hands are full and have your supervsor laugh along with them because he was, well, one of the boys. Or how about the man who is supposed to train you walking off a line because he didn't want to train no c*nt.

How about the times when you could be told the reason you couldn't get a job was because you could leave and get married and they couldn't afford to take that chance. If you had children, they didn't want to hire you because you might need a sick day to take a kid to the doctor.

I lived and heard almost all of these. I have been working since the 70's and things have changed quite a bit since then because of feminists.

Today there are issues more important than the things you raised. Frankly I could care less about the pronouns we use, if a woman leads prayer, if a woman is pope, or any of those things that are 'trendy'. I would rather see that the freedoms we have and the younger generation constantly take for granted in their selfishness stay the way they are and improve a few. Like the laws for child molesters and rape laws and the funding needed for both. As a feminist, that is what I fight for.

Re: Obsessed

^ I must agree that there r female who r true Feminists.well they dont do stupid debates like concerning God(HE?SHE).Take for example the mother teressa(now im not saying she was feminist)but she was granted sainthood after her death by the orthodox vetica,,,which was too late.well if the sex of the God is the problem with these Feminist of the west then ask them to look east and find there female gods in hinduism.we as hindu ve lot of female gods as there are male ones.i think this may solve there problem.

And Saraspleondour u r wrong saying that women cant make a philoshipher and they cant do debate on religion.Well if u give me a chance i can prove u wrong here dear.:)

Re: Obsessed

God doesn't have a gender, why attribute him (as a general pronoun) with human characteristics, God is God :)

Re: Obsessed

yeah but u got to satisfy those also who devide god on gender basis.well they say if church and bible refer god as he and they have commited mistake by doing so the the allow us to do the same.but these ppl do not understand two negatives dont make positive.

Re: Obsessed

Sarah, they whine about stuff and you whine about them. For someone as intelligent as you, why do you keep complaining about women( Hate for feminists is just a facade, you hate women in general)? Whiny, dumb, narcisstic, jealous bizatches are just some of the adjectives you have attributed to women in the recent times. And then you wonder why women are insecure and talk "stuff" about other women, which makes you a perfect example of what you claim to hate.

Re: Obsessed

^ claps

I agree with you, chandbeti, 100%.

Plenty of female philosophers out there who are not feminist and concentrate on other phil areas. I've been taught by a few.

Re: Obsessed

^
well u can be taken as a sample to see just how "good" they are, when u realize is that all they do is produce more confused minds (like themselves?)....

actually women can never be like men cuz they were created with differences, and men have found it to their advantage to let women keep trying to be like men (something that can never be achieved) and at the same time miss out the opportunity to do the worh that they r really supposed to do, and also to keep them away from taking a major position in the social stay....

women who go around screaming and trying to prove that they r equal to men r seen as whiners and losers....
those who understand better and will gladly accept their most suited role as the main character in the family/house r more respected and attributed with better character....
like it or not, thats the way it is....

it wud be intresting to read the philosophy of women....
anyone with a piece to share????

Re: Obsessed

Chandbeti, bravo, you've hit the nail right on the head. Yes I'm very insecure, fickle, narcissistic, whiny, and a royal bitch to boot. In fact, I am also very selfish, short sighted, occasionally dumb, mostly rude, very impolite, uncaring, negative, pessimistic, opposite of optimistic, I'm sure you the point.

I am unapologetically, unashamedly, proudly every thing bad in your lexicon. One thing I am not though is a gossip. That despicable habit I leave for the rest of the women in this world.
