My personal take is after the threat, state of Pakistan should speed up the process and hang him by Friday :cheegum:
Pakistani officials said President Obama’s national security advisor summoned Pakistan’s ambassador to the White House Monday evening to deliver a threat from the president: Release Raymond Davis, an American being held in Lahore for killing two Pakistanis, or face the consequences.
National Security Advisor Tom Donilon told Ambassador Husain Haqqani, according to two Pakistani officials involved in negotiations about Davis, that the U.S. will kick Haqqani out of the U.S., close U.S. consulates in Pakistan, and cancel an upcoming visit by Pakistan’s president to Washington, if Davis, a U.S. embassy employee, is not released from custody by Friday.
^^^ If they think this would help their cause they could not be more wrong. Pakistan should it make clear and tell Obama to buzz off and let the due process work.
Pakistan stands to lose more if America imposes any kind of sanctions. Most probably, Davis would be released through the backdoor so that the public sentiments are respected while Uncle Sam is also appeased.

I think both countries are playing to their domestic constituents right now. Once this initial bravado dies down, it will come down to backroom diplomacy and I would not be surprised if Mr.Davis is flying home on a USAF plane soon :)

As we type - USA has an army of more then one hundred and fifty thousand men fighting in Afghanistan - These troops are dependent on the supplies ( food , weapons , Petrol ) coming Via Pakistan - every day American Ships come to our Karachi port- from where , on a daily basis , loaded with these goods more then 200 Trucks travel to Afghanistan via Thorkham and Chaman Borders !
And If Pakistan stops this co-operation , life is going to be hell for the troops fighting in Afghanistan , then either USA goes to Turkey or Central Asian countries - in both cases it is going to be a hell of expensive option .
Then comes Pakistan Geo Political Position in picture !And The Taliban is the buzz word here , from last ten years or so , USA has kept them engaged in Afghanistan and Tribal areas of Pakistan and if this war stops , God forbid this zealous lot is very much capable of waging a war in USA and europe on its own ...

They should leave off Pakistan unless they want to really have a disaster like Vietnam in Afghanistan, Pakistan is the only factor that has prevented the American led coalition from being hacked to pieces by Afghan insurgents never mind the Taliban.

I agree. USA is playing bluff with Pakistan on this. I do not think that USA can afford to break ties with Pakistan.

Nothing of this sorta is going to happen for now.. and the reason is mentioned in above posts.
BUT...
Americans are putting the thumbpin on the map right now... Once they get out of this whole situation of war in terror, whenever it happens, they will really kick the Pakistani butts very hard recalling them this story of Davis. OR atleast they will be finalizing the plans to get rid of present Pakistani govt very soon and replace them with someone who can help them in any similar condition, in case any new Raymond Davis appears on surface.. And dont forget that we have too many EAGER candidates ready to do this service, just waiting for a call. :)

As usual USA Govt. showing their real face the both countires know well that they are not a real friends from start both getting benefits for their domestic interests, well personally my views from past and still is Pakistan need to have made more stronger ties with China from Defence to Economic and as far as China need also us just for his interests but still more better then USA, we already done a lot with them on war of terror lost of thousands lives and uncle SAM still threating us for cast of a single LIFE.
I didnt participate in discussion about Davis incidents becoz of our political homies are so busy within themselve so we can not say anything clearly what come next BUT its look like NOW that USA is so serious about him to get free, in past there are a lot of incidents when USA citizens/armed personal kidnapped by fundamentalists in Iraq and other countries and almost in all cases they were killed and USA never get down with kidnappers.. and Davis case is a simple case he should be waite and let work done here first before give us warnings. its make me think why Davis so important for them!! hell not becoz of dimplomate, Kuch kuch dal main kala hai
