NWFP to be renamed Pakhtoonkhwa: Zardari

Please remove MQM, PPP and Jihalat and terrorist from Pakistan, I don't care how you do it.

Re: NWFP to be renamed Pakhtoonkhwa: Zardari

WHile you are at it please also find if santa claus really lives in the north pole! :)

my idea was that it is foolish to name provinces after politicians because no one does this.

Re: NWFP to be renamed Pakhtoonkhwa: Zardari

Its not good idea to divide states on Language, Race or culture basis. learn from India's mistakes. People will never mix up. Instead divide on North, east, west, centre etc..

*Alabama River by early European explorers and named “Alibamu” after the local Indian tribe
*Georgia: In honor of George II of England
*Delaware River and Bay; named in turn for Sir Thomas West, Baron De La Warr
*Louisiana: In honor of Louis XIV of France
*Maryland: In honor of Henrietta Maria (queen of Charles I of England)
*New York: In honor of the Duke of York
*Pennsylvania: In honor of Adm. Sir William Penn, father of William Penn. It means “Penn’s Woodland.”
*Vermont From the French “vert mont,” meaning “green mountain”
*Virginia In honor of Elizabeth “Virgin Queen” of England
*Washington In honor of George Washington
*West Virginia In honor of Elizabeth, “Virgin Queen” of England
*Wisconsin French corruption of an Indian word whose meaning is disputed
*Wyoming From the Delaware Indian word, meaning “mountains and valleys alternating”; the same as the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania

We need to further divide the provinces and rename them, sindh, punjab and balochistan.

Re: NWFP to be renamed Pakhtoonkhwa: Zardari

Uh, great. Now is everyone happy, so we can move on with our lives and try to be a decent people? I hope the trouble/time/money taken up by a name change helps advance NWFPers, or as we shall now call them Pakhtoonkhwa-ers, has helped motivate them to be more decent people and kick the cancer that is budding in their backyard out, the cancer being terrorism. If all this energy can help them accomplish so much, then I applaud the name change. If not, then thanks a whole lot for wasting everyone's energy/time/tax money/IMF money, ya bunch of whiners.

Re: NWFP to be renamed Pakhtoonkhwa: Zardari

Ok. so if it is a "done deal" then WHY HASN'T IT HAPPENED YET?

For the first time, the name Pakhtunkhawa was mentioned in the UN General Assembly by Zardari on the 28th of Sept. It will happen pretty soon. I can already see some very unhappy campers :) but thankfully most of them arent from the NWFP.

It will be done because Zardari had to agree on this before he could ask Wali's support for the impeachment proceedings against Musharraf.

No. There already are provinces named sindh, punjab and balochistan.

divide punjab into 3 parts,

northern part can be re-named as potohar or hinko which might also include hazara parts of puktunkhwa.Rawalpindi could be its capital.

central punbab with lahore as capital.

southern and western districts of punjab could become seraiki wasiab with multan its capital.

i dont know how one is going to divide sindh because sindhis are dead opposed to jinnahpur.

ANP jubilant as Pakhtunkhwa echoes in UNGA**

PESHAWAR: For the first time in the 61-year-long history of Pakistan and 63 years of the United Nations, the word Pakhtunkhwa echoed through the august hall of the General Assembly, parting a satisfying message among the Pakhtuns besides the political circles affiliated to the Awami National Party.

This recognition of the decades-long demand of the Awami National Party came up during the maiden speech of President Asif Ali Zardari to the 63rd meeting of the United General Assembly on Friday.

**The president, while referring to his government’s resolve to gather support against the terrorists operating in the north west of the country, said in his speech, “We will work patiently to persuade leaders in Fata and our Pakhtunkhwa province to accept the writ of the government…” **

This one word uttered by such an important leader and on such a dignified forum elated many leaders, supporters and workers of the nationalist ANP.

Zahid Khan, central information secretary of the ANP, termed the reference of Pakhtunkhwa instead of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) a victory for

his party leadership and

claimed it was recognition of the demand of the entire Pakhtun nation.

He said the reference by president, who is a symbol of federation and custodian of the provincial rights, was nothing short of the acknowledgment of the philosophy of the great Pakhtun leader and freedom fighter

Bacha Khan, at an unmatched level.

It is the first step toward the practical recognition of the

Asfandyar Khan’s struggle

which was initiated by his celebrated grandfather, Khan Abdul Ghafar Khan aka Bacha Khan and continued by his father Khan Abdul Wali Khan, the ANP leader said.

The utterance of the word Pakhtunkhwa by the president in the comity of nations also

removed all misconception about the government’s attitude to-

ward renaming the Frontier province.

It also vindicated the stand of party chief Asfandyar Wali Khan to join the coalition led by Pakistan People’s Party, Zahid said. He said the mentioning of Pakhtunkhwa by the president is not mere an utterance by a country’s leader, but it reflected the policy of the government and seriousness of PPP leadership to accept the longstanding demand of the Pakhtuns.

Riffaqatullah Khan, local leader of the ANP, said the

areas comprising the province was detached from Punjab in 1901 as chief commissioner’s province, and it has never ever acknowledged at such a highest forum.

He also said the president’s expression of the Pakhtunkhwa has put a seal on the ANP’s

demand and it would be impossible for the government to retract as the president has admitted

the province in the north west of the country is named ‘Pakhtunkhwa’.

Re: NWFP to be renamed Pakhtoonkhwa: Zardari

Why do someone have problem if NWFP's Assembly want to change name of the province? If that can make people happy why not?

Re: NWFP to be renamed Pakhtoonkhwa: Zardari

So now that they have achieved one milestone… can they now please move on to bigger targets/miletsones? :halo:

Not all people of nwfp want its name to be changed to puktunkhwa particularly the ethnic minorities in nwfp likie. hazara, khowar and seraiki
they want a secular name like khyber or something else.

Re: NWFP to be renamed Pakhtoonkhwa: Zardari

asif, then why did these people elect the ANP to power? ANP was very clear about the name change issue.

Well, in a "democracy" majority wins, so either they should start a campaign and gain majority in the assembly then rename it or live with it.

Re: NWFP to be renamed Pakhtoonkhwa: Zardari

This is an old struggle and the ANP narrowly lost the vote to change the name a while back. Now that they have patiently waited and have the majority in the assembly, they have every right to do so. From what I have heard, it will be done early next year.

If they are planing to change the name of NWFP to Pakhtunkhwa than they should add FATA and split into 2 provinces, South eastern part should be called “Khyber” and north part should be call "Pakhtunkhwa".**

I would rather divide into 3 than 2.
](The News International: Latest News Breaking, World, Entertainment, Royal News)**

Wouldn’t that play into the fact that “pathans are being marginalized while punjab remains one”?

As for dividing Punjab etc, why not make smaller cities the capital of these provinces like in America? This way not only we develop new cities but the security of the city would be easier as well LIKE no traffic jams for the poor public while MPAs move through???

Re: NWFP to be renamed Pakhtoonkhwa: Zardari
