I doubt this is true as large stretched of what was hazara are not even Pashtu :-
indus kohistan which was a part of hazara and now a separate district is not a pashtun or even a hindko-speaking area
the kaghan valley region of mansera is not a pashtun or a hindko-speaking area
the galiyat and eastern side of abbottabad are not pashtun area or hindko-speaking pathan area.
large tracts of other areas within abottobad, haripur, mansera where there are pashtuns and hindko speaking pathans also contain significant population of the non-pashtun/non-pathan tribes
It is always ASSUMED that the pathan/pashtun tribes own most of the land but this is probably a wrong assumption...
In Hazara as a whole theres not many Pashtuns left except in batagram and sizeabe communites in Mansera so how oculd there be a problem? There is n support for renaming within the Hindko speaking pathans.
There are no problems but some people are trting to cause problems by impsing an ethnc identity.
Awans do not consider themselves Afghan origin. In fact they have their own history which you should read up about.

I have a good idea why dont they rename the northern provinces of Afghanistan - Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan - it surely would reflect the ethnic make up of the area.

N.W.F.P is always refered as afghania not pakhtunkwa in history, Afghans in settled ares of N.W.F.P have actually came from present day afghanistan because they were pushed here by stronger tribes there. The original people of N.W.F.P were hinkis who r related to punjabis. Because afghans were fierce warriors therefore they easily defeated these people and colonized this area. many hinkis were pushed beyond indus river, others remain here, some completely assimilating into pashtuns while other retain their identitiy successfully like in kohat ,peshawar or other areas. thats why people of N.W.F.P are darker as compared to afghani pashtuns bcos they are not pure as it is assumed. unlike eastren d.i.khan hazara is closely related to pashtuns but it is strange that unlike seraikis they r very anti-pakhtuns. even hinko speaking pathan tribes of swatis, tanolis,jadoons, tarins etc r against renaming of province.
Anyhow, if that is what majority of people in Sarhad wants than let that be, but I think that this is bad precedent to set in Pakistan. Who knows, in future millions from Punjab may settle in Sarhad and after becoming majority may start demanding change in name again from Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab. Well, maybe in future we might even have movement to get name of Pakistan changed to Punjab (however ridiculous).
I think that we in Pakistan should learn to live together without egoism and fighting on names, but accommodating all within us without antagonising anyone.

Why are you taking so much tension? Zardari loves to change names of everything to BeNazir. It is possible that soon NWFP might get renamed as BeNaziristan or BeNazirkhaw. Zardari would be happy, you would be happy and so would Pakhtuns. Zardari would think that he gave NWFP name of his wife and Pakhtuns would think that since Pakhtuns are people without parallel, they are BeNazir, hence the name. :)

I don't think 1 Pathan = 1 elephant is a true statement.
If your that bothered about Pakhutnkhwa then why do you have the name of a different country as your nick?
And in what way is a pathan equal to so many baloch,, sindhis, punjabis etc?

What about Hindko's of Hazara Division ,Siraiki's of D.I.Khan or Khowar's of Chitral then??Should they call themselves Pakhtoons too?? NWFP is not all Pakhtoons

As far as its resolution is passed from the provincial assembly its all good.
IF punjabis can live in PUNJAB (knowing there r so many kashmiries, muhajirs, afghan refugees and sarayiki speaking Niazis live there)
IF sindhis can live in SINDh (knowing there r so many biharis and muhajirs and even punjabis live there. there r more than a million pathans in karachi alone)
IF balochs can live in BALOCHISTAN (knowing there r so many tribes that dont liked to be called balochs, afghan lives near the whole chaman belt, and even arabic speaking ppl also live in gawadar in the area that was bought from the government of Oman.)
Then y cant pashtoons name their province PUKHTOONKHA'N knowing that there r minorities living in their province???
let a democratical process take place, if majority wants that, give em.

^ Indeed. Hopefully this will be done soon. Most importantly, this should be done to prove a point to everyone outside of NWFP who makes decisions on what to impose upon the people there.

why people prefer NWFP??? its not a name. anyway I am punjabi and if NWFP want a different name, they should have it anything they want it to be called.
Pakhtoonkhuwa - well people say what about hazara/hindko people living there. whats wrong with hazara people living in pukhtoonkhwa?
many seraiki people live in Punjab and they want to be called seraiki people instead of Punjabi, many pakhtoons live in sindh, many pushtoons live in Blochistan. If I decide to live in Sindh one day, it will not make me ethinically sindhi, but a Punjabi living in Sindh.
leave them alone with any name they want it, anything thing will be better than NWFP
