SC moved for suo moto action against Ordinance

ISLAMABAD (NNI) - A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday requesting the court to take suo motu action against National Reconciliation Ordinance 2007 as it was against the fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan. Insaaf Welfare Trust filed the petition through its Chairman Dr. Aslam Khaki. Federation of Pakistan, President of Pakistan, Pakistan Peoples Party through its Chairman Benazir Bhutto, PPPP through Aftab Khan Sherpao and MQM through Farooq Sattar have been made respondents in the petition. The petition said that National Reconciliation Ordinance 2007 was abuse of authority and be declared unjust. The petition said the impugned ordinance is against the provisions as envisaged in the Constitution of Pakistan. “That the impugned ordinance provides for general amnesty for the corrupt politicians and bureaucrats which is in fact a punishment to the poor nation of Pakistan”, said the petition. Dr. Aslam Khaki in his petition also requested the court to stay and suspend the impugned ordinance
