Not Indian but Sikh [split: 12 Indians booked for rioting in NJ]

Not Indian but Sikh. The only “indian” desi gangs in UK, Canada & USA are comprised almost 100% of Sikhs.

I thought Sikhs were Indian...!

Re: 12 Indians booked for rioting in NJ

Indian brings up the image of gujratis's, madarasi's and others.

Sikhs and Punjabi's consider themselves 'different' and 'better' from other Indians.

Also, 70% of Sikhs are from a single caste: Jatts and almost 90% of Sikh gang members are Jatt Sikhs.

I thought Sikhs were Indians too....unless these are the "Khalistani" variety :)

:p

You mean to say Sikhs are not Indians anymore? Is Sikh a separate country now? Wow, I missed some news seems like.

Re: 12 Indians booked for rioting in NJ

When asked where they are from, most Sikhs (and most punjabi hindu's) will say Punjab not India.
Most Sikhs will say "Mera Desh Punjab" not "India".
Again, Punjabiat is a strong culture and emotion for Sikhs.

Re: 12 Indians booked for rioting in NJ

^
Some Sikhs might say that, they have not yet forgotten the Khalistan dream :)

However, this statement is as true for Punjabi Hindus as it is for Maharashtrians, Tamilians, Bengalis, Malayalis, Gujaratis, Kannadigas etc. All of them have their own cultural identity.

Re: 12 Indians booked for rioting in NJ

Just go to youtube and see how many punjabi songs are on "Punjab", "Desh Punjabi", "Punjabi".....
You will find very few or no punjabi songs on India..etc

Every linguistic group or ethnic group in India is proud of its heritage and like the Punjabi's ..... they have songs glorifying their "land" ... you will also not find many tamil , gujrati or bengali songs on India

Perhaps this was the reason people from east Pakistan decided to leave Pakistan .... regional or linguistic feeling should not be mixed up with national identity. As a matter of fact the Sikhs form the bulk of armed forces in India ..

What about Jai Maharashtra, Sonar Bangla or Tamil Eelam just to name a few ? I think all states in India have a strong sense of state identity. But that does not come above national identity in most cases.

If you take a look at Indian Armed Forces, Punjabis outnumber any other group there.

Ab Raaj Kao Ga Khaalsa
Baqi rahey Na Koo

Sikhs are Indians too :smack:

Sheesh, it’s not like Indians can’t be involved in anti-social activities people. Let’s not be unrealistic here.

Re: Not Indian but Sikh [split: 12 Indians booked for rioting in NJ]

lol i think he's sikh.

When you start accepting when they say "I am Punjabi" then its just a sign of accepting cracks in the foundation, then better start handing out Punjab passports too.

It is not a sign of acception the cracks, it is just that we are confident enough that we believe in the concept of states that are a part of the national union.

I call myself a Keralite, but that does not make me less Indian...

I'm talking about third person referring to his countrymen using regionalism. I can call myself Karachiite too but that doesn't mean Karachi is above Pakistan, but if someone talks about me saying he is not Pakistani he is Karachiite then thats a problem.

Re: Not Indian but Sikh [split: 12 Indians booked for rioting in NJ]

We all do the Punjabi, Kashmiri, Haryanvi, Bihari etc ethnic references all the time. At other times we all do the Hindu Christian Jew Muslim Parsi Bhuddthist Jain etc thing. At other times we do the man, woman etc thing...

so what! everything is a debate for some people! sheez!

Ignore him....
