Re: Nose Piercings

I really want to get mine pierced but as silly as this sounds, i'm afraid of how much it'll hurt :(

Re: Nose Piercings

oh, it doesn’t too much. let me share my experience, I was just walking from one room to another and heard my sis arguing, i entered her room and saw my granny had a needle in her hand and she was persuading her to get it done while she was refusing and saying, I KNOW IT WILL HURT.. when I saw this situation, I started laughing and said, it won’t hurt that much.. she said, ACHHAAAAA to phir tum karwaalo… I said, never mind, I sat there, asked granny to do it and now I am glad I am not among those brides who cry becz their nose hurts on the day of their marriage… ONLY BCZ, they get it done at last night!! :cb:

Re: Nose Piercings

I got mine pierced at 10 when I went to Pakistan. It closed, then I had it done again when I was 13. Both times my mom didn't have a problem with my getting the piercing done, she just didn't want me to wear a stud or ring in it until after I was married. I used to put a *saunf ka tinka *in the opening when I was younger but stopped even that when I hit 18-19 because it would constantly fall out.

As weird as it sounds, despite not wearing anything in it regularly (I wear a stud maybe 3-4 times a year), my piercing is still open - it's never closed over. I only put a stud in when I go out somwhere and want to get all dolled up.

Re: Nose Piercings

^ ahh lucky you :( my mother's is the smae way, she can go months without putting somethign in and it goes in easily...mine gets closed up after a few days/weeks! dunno why that is.

Re: Nose Piercings

^ you keep on wearing it for a year atleast.. you'll find it same as your mother, Later!

Re: Nose Piercings

it doesn't hurt at all when they do it, i only got a tear in my right eye (same side as the piercing), not because it hurt, maybe it was because of the shock lol, it just feels weird for a few couple of hours and you might get a headache, but especially if your skin is thin it should be fine

Re: Nose Piercings

I remember the struggle that I went through to get my nose pierced. I was off on a trip to Karachi and planned on getting it done there during my trip. Like a good girl I asked for permission and was told off.

Ammi, being of the literary ilk was always enlightening us about the history of traditions etc. When I told her that I wanted to get my nose pierced she said “astagfirullah!” and explained to me that this was a symbol of a woman’s objectification…of being enslaved…that when a female slave was purchased the owner would put a ring through her nose…of course this conversation went to several extremes in which cattle were also discussed :cb:

The bottom line was that if I chose to pierce my nose, I was not to return from the trip.
Obediently I came back without it done.

A few years later I worked up the courage and asked a friend of mine to meet me at the jewellers as I was going to have my nose pierced and I wanted someone to make sure they were doing it right and in the right place. I did the dastardly deed and sheepishly went home.

Bhabhi noticed it right away and so did the brothers…they were just waiting for Ammi to let her wrath loose on me. When there was no reaction someone decided to point it out to her at the dinner table. I pretended to need something from the kitchen and quickly got up from my seat. As I left the room, out of the corner of my eye I could see Ammi trying to feign disgust and hide a smile. Apparently she agreed with the rest that it looked really elegant.

She never complained about it and even bought me a tiny diamond stud. May Allah grant her jannat, ameen!

It has been years since I wore anything in it…but my collection is wide and varied…from studs to clusters to rings. The piercing does tend to close up but not all the way through and I always manage to poke through with the original sharp stud that it was pierced with.

After reading this thread I’m getting nostalgic and just might put a stud in again…

Re: Nose Piercings

Awww, that is such a sweet story! Your ammi sounds like she was a truly exceptional and lovely woman. And ameen to your duas :hugz:

Re: Nose Piercings

It's common but looks good.

Re: Nose Piercings

I wore my nose pin for 5 YEARS before I had to remove it (obv I was changing it in the meantime) for a long period of time because I was working at a job where I wasn't allowed to wera it..so one month I had no pin in and it took me several days and lots of agony to finally get it back in.

Re: Nose Piercings

And no, it doesn't hurt. It's too quick for that.

Re: Nose Piercings

U guys have made me wanna listen to the song laung da lashkara...

My dad was strictly against any of his daughters getting any piercings (just 1 ear piercing) I got the second one done when I was out of high school and then got the nose piercing done while in the US coz dad said it didn't look nice on women working in the corporate arena. He has always bought ammi diamond nose pins as gifts yet he objected to getting mine done. Anyhow I didn't tell them and came back home wearing a nose ring. Long story short it got filled with puss and dad was even more mad at me but then he was the one who cut off the ring and put a neem ka thinka and made it all heal up.
I was hoping that my hubby would like nose studs as well but turns out he doesn't like them, he never told me that directly but once I asked him how come you don't do any tareef of my laung ka lashkara that is when he said he doesn't fancy them too much. After that I didn't really put a stud in my piercing.
I also used to wear the real tiny ones that are really sparkly.... I love those...

Re: Nose Piercings

I got mine pierced when I was 14. Against me mam's wishes. I actually remember her slap across my face hurting more than getting it pierced. She hated it, said it was an awful thing to do for a lass so young. I loved it. Made me feel dead grown up.

I only ever wore L shaped studs in it and I would ALWAYS lose them as I would forget to take them out at night. I took it out when my mum passed away and have only worn a stud 3 or 4 times at weddings since. The most annoying thing is that the hole won't close and it's actually quite noticable, expecially in pictures.

Re: Nose Piercings

I didn't notice it.
