Isnt praying five times a day one of the five so called pillars of islam? does failing to do so make one a non-muslim? replies much appreciated from all kinds of muslims.
Re: Non praying muslims
Not offering the five daily prayers is a serious sin. However, more or less it does not throw you out of the fold of Islam, unless you hold the belief that offering the five daily prayers is not obligatory (or not something prescribed in Islam).
Re: Non praying muslims
queer, they are only down one pillar.
Actually, the term used in early Islam for people who refuse to perform the Muslim rituals or have difference in faith than the majority or main stream belief is 'kufir' not 'non-Muslim'. For example those who refused to obey the Khalifa were considered kafirs, not non-Muslims. There is a difference, though these days it is synonymous.
Re: Non praying muslims
Why in the monotheistic faiths is it that the only religion that claims to have the only untouched Holy Book that is 100% word of God, the only one that throws you from the fold for doing or not doing something that isn't even mentioned in that perfect, complete, 100% accurate book?
Re: Non praying muslims
Obviously, you don’t know what you’re saying ![]()
Re: Non praying muslims
Really? So the Quran does prescribe the number of times that one must pray daily?
Re: Non praying muslims
Yeps.
Re: Non praying muslims
queer, there is no such thing as FIVE PILLARS in Quran. These are man made pillars. Not performing one of the 'pillars' has no bearing on your becoming a non-muslim.
Re: Non praying muslims
How many?
Re: Non praying muslims
Where?
Re: Non praying muslims
Hunk:
Where does it say in Quran to Pray 5 times. It will be something NEW to learn. I have read Quran, its translations and it's transliteration several hundred times. Please Quote me ONE ayat where ALLAH has mentioned to pray FIVE TIMES a day. Nevertheless, I have found a verse in the HOLY QURAN, Surah Hud, Ayat 114 where Allah has asked us to pray 3 TIMES. Please provide us the reference to what you said.
Qureer, like many of them mentioned here that 'NOT' Praying 5 times a day, does not strike anyone out from being a Muslim.
A person is a muslim by saying the 'Shahada'. Any individual saying Shahada is a muslim. A person prays there after or fasts or practices other rituals are Secondary. To me its more like being a Practicing Muslim, or the Ambasador of Islam to promote the ethical approaches to humanity by praying, fasting paying zakat helping other human beings etc. BUT to answer your question it's clear that ONE is a Muslim by just saying Shahada.
Re: Non praying muslims
2:238 Guard strictly your (habit of) prayers, especially the Middle prayer; and stand before Allah in a devout (frame of mind).
11:114 And establish regular prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approaches of the night …
17:78 Establish regular prayers - at the sun's decline till the darkness of the night …
Re: Non praying muslims
My friend Hunk,
The 'Middle Prayer' in 2:238 is the prayer referenced from surah Hud (11:114). It does not at all depict the prayer of afternoon or so.
And the Sun's decline as in surah 17:28 is the other end of the prayer as mentioned in Surah 11:114
There is ONLY one ayaat 11:114 that depicts to pray 3 times a day.
Re: Non praying muslims
^ OK fine, lets say for argument's sake we only have to pray once or twice a day. How do you suggest we do that? The Quran never tells us how to pray.
Re: Non praying muslims
You are absolutely right skhan, Quran does not actually tell us HOW to Pray as a methodology. I will even extend the discussion that what is the definition of prayer. Salaat is an arabic word that means to call .. so one is calling ALLAH , which in general words means remembering Allah, talking to ALLAH, asking forgiveness etc etc ... Which could be done in any form standing, sitting and actually there is a verse that reflects that which I can't remember.
Nevertheless, a methodology to Pray and a formal prayer was introduced to us by Prohet Mohammed
Re: Non praying muslims
Salat is one thng throw which one is recognised as a Muslim..
i feel..it a big sin..
it hardly takes 5-10 mins ...and out of 24 hrs..i guess any one is able to take out this time for aour Creator
Re: Non praying muslims
Yes, and how many times in the day did the Prophet (PBUH) pray?
Re: Non praying muslims
He prayed more than 5 times ... but what's your point dude ? the question on the forum was who is a muslim? and then it got diverted if ALLAH had mentioned 5 times prayers in the Holy QUran....
