Re: Non fasting muslims!
Actually it is due to the decline of "Imaan" (Faith inside us), may Allah bless us all with the wisdom and strength to follow the orders of Allah (swt).
Unfortunately few muslims here in Turkey give impression that they are keeping fast as a tradition which is good for stomach and health (like dieting) NOT for sawab or pleasing Allah, as no namaz, no Quran talawat, no refraining from immoral acts (intentionally)........
Re: Non fasting muslims!
Our landlord, a single guy, is from Turkey and is muslim. He is a very very nice person but I reallized that he is drifted away from his spritual foundation. He changed his name so it ssounds american, he does not say ASAK, instead say hI, even to me. A friend of mine (from Tableeghi Jammat) start talking to him about Imaan and I felt that he was totally uncomfortable with that topic and wanted to change it, asap
Yesterday, he came to my house to fix something and we learned that he was fasting. I was very happily surprised (did not show him my surprise). The point is that our deen has such a glue that no matter how week our Imman becomes, there is always some connection left. ANd sometime that small connection is enough for soemone to completely turn around and his/her imaan become an expamle for us to follow
We should pray for those people that there imaan increase.
I heard that when you pray for a muslim brother, angels pray the same thing for you. Lets make angels pray for us:D
Re: Non fasting muslims!
well dude, most ppl are uncomfotable talking to tableeghi jamat.
name change could be for just making it easy to deal with ppl.
so he does not say As-Salam-Alaikum, u know most pakistanis dont either..although what they say is some twisted version of it..slalikooo, samalakoom, slalaikum, slamalaykaum etc.
appearances can be deceiving, it applies to the guy you think is not following islam at all who prays regularly and it applies to the guys who have oooncha pajamas, bears, leather socks but harrass ppl and attack public property.
Re: Non fasting muslims!
No, I think he is liberal. His mother came to stay with him and telling my wife that she is trying to read quran for the first time and what not.
I know what you are saying and I should not judge anybody's level of imaan by making few observations.
Well you know what, maybe you are right. Maybe he is better practicing muslim then many others, I know of
Re: Non fasting muslims!
May be it has to do with the iftar time of 7:30 PM. Up until two years ago the iftar was around 6 pm. I don't know.
Re: Non fasting muslims!
I also came to know about muslims here who think smoking is allowed during fasting.
May Allah bless us towards right path. Ameen.
Re: Non fasting muslims!
^
so true
just because you see a few muslims at your workplace not fasting makes it a trend? interesting
Re: Non fasting muslims!
:salam2:
This issue has to be seen in two ways.
If a person accept by heart that Fasting is Fardh but does not do it, then, he/she is involved in the sin of not performing a fardh, but it does not nullify his/her imaan … (Note that accepting from heart can not be judged by us)
If a person denies totally that Fasting is something which is Fardh, then, the person is out of Islam anyway..
Wallah-O-Alam
Re: Non fasting muslims!
Fasting is not important brothers. It is our hearts and our bank accounts that are the most important. Our hearts must have faith, and our coffers must be full to satisfaction.
Re: Non fasting muslims!
huh.. bank accounts, how prehistoric, stock options, deferred comp, fund balances, portfolios and holdings,
bank accts....sheesh
Re: Non fasting muslims!
Says who?
Let Allah be the judge of who is out of the fold of Islam and who isn’t.

Says the Prophet (SAW)... and as understood by his companions (RA) ... anyone denying one of the Obligatory pillars, is out of the definition is Islam... Yes, Allah is the judge and He taught us how to be a muslim through His messenger and this is what His messenger's verdict is...
Re: Non fasting muslims!
Fasting is obligatory to muslims...you cant just pick and choose...makes up the basic tenants of Islam

Authentic Hadith?
Re: Non fasting muslims!
Interesting reading htis thread today....we have an all day training event today, facilitated by external colleagues, one of whom is muslim. The day is based at our office and we have lunch and tea/biscuits thrown in....the muslim trainer, is drinking and eating away...not even attempting to cover the fact that she isn't fasting (even if she has a valid reason not to) and she knows I'm muslim and fasting from the conversation and teh fact that I wear hijaab!...it's not just muslims you know who observe these things.................
My mum came up to stay last week, and she got the train...she is quite ill at the moment and is taking some very strong tablets, for which she must eat before and after to line her stomach otherwise she suffers a great deal...anyway, so she chose a pretty quite carriage and sat in her table seat....there was no muslims that she could see, just some goreh......so when she needed to, she opened her pre-prepared sandwich and was taking a bite....to which the gori lady sat the other side of the aisle said to her...."Excuse me, but aren't you supposed to be fasting"....luckily she understood when mum explained her predicament...but just makes you think!!!!
Re: Non fasting muslims!
Cool story wanabe!
In most cases im sure muslims who have a valid reason not to fast still dont make it obvious that they arent fasting!
but as per thread the opposite seems to be happening nowadays!
Could it be that as-saum is not considered as important as the other arkaan of islam?

I know people who don't fast in Ramzan...yet take part in the World Vision 24 hour famine....during which you can drink water!!!
It just doesn't make sense!!!
All our lives, me and my sister have been told to hide the fact that we are not fasting - for whatever reason.....................it's just respectful...
Like my mum can't fast, but she will only eat at home or at my aunties if nobody else is around.....so we plan around her medication times.........if we have to go out etc........
You can't pick and choose which aspects of Islam you want to observe...........
