True, but sometimes, there might be pressing reasons to do a wedding sooner. Maybe visa issues, or maybe relatives are in town for only a few days or maybe dying grandma wants to see wedding and doesn' t know if she'll live another month. I won't judge...

den u can do weddings wid saadgi.
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
^ Shouldn't we be doing weddings with 'saadgi' to begin with? Or do we need a cultural/religious barrier to 'make' us do it with saadgi?
As raatkirani said perfectly, I wont judge.
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
i already said tht its my point of view im not throwing any restrictions on other.....
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
I respect that. I'm just asking your opinion on mine.
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
I wouldn't encourage anyone to have their wedding during Muharram, because it is a sad month for some Muslims.
And TLK and pinks, doing the nikah on the 10th of Muharram is sunnat?!? That's when the Prophet's (SAW) grandson died!! Why would he be celebrating on that day when that's a day of mourning for the Prophet (SAW) and his family??? LOL, wow! I've never heard this before...I am truly amazed!
But yea, Your President, I would advise you to have a look at an Islamic calendar and find a "happy day", like the Prophet's (SAW) birthday or something. You should start your new life on a happy occasion, and best of luck!! :)
You can have your wedding any day of the year you want to... muharram ho ya na ho.
These are complications that people have created in their lives, it doesn't mean you have to follow along.
No day of the year is bad or unfortunate or sad or unlucky, these are the days created for humans and they should be treated as such. These days come and go EVERY year... it is foolish and unfortunate that people have used tragic events in Islamic history to prevent us from doing things that we want to do.
Now, if you want to move your wedding back or ahead OUT OF RESPECT then do so at your own will, Islamicaly your not required to postpone.
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
we postponed my bro-in-laws wedding becasue of muharram.. its better to wait until after..
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
Why and how is it better?
What benefit? How does it protect you misfortune?
Muharram is just another month in Islamic calender... why turn it into some cursed and evil time of the year?
We don't follow Islamic calender whole year and yet when Muharram rolls around we postpone everything as if something "bad/unlucky" will happen.

it is sunnah as the prophet (saw) had a nikkah on that day as TLK said.
why are we concerning ourselves with what happened after the life of the prophet to make decisions on what is appropriate or not?
there are no 'happy' days and 'sad' days, there are just days with extra blessing from allah.

Clearly, you and I agree 100%.

haha, no I did register long time ago but thats as far as I would go with that... just don't have time for facebook, etc.
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
to have shaadi in the month of muharram is disrespectful as it is a month of mourning, not just for shia but for all muslims. the descendents of the prophet were murdered and tortured during this time, anyone one considering celebrating this time is seriously misguided. there are many days of the year to get married, why pick muharram?
there will be guests who will be very offended by being invited to a wedding in muharram and won't come, if you don't care about that, then i guess it won't matter to you.
HI there, I am planning to get married and finally decided 27th December 2008 for the reception in Karachi but then its Benazir Bhutto's death anniversary so decided against it as we are not sure about the situation in Karachi. Then thought we can have it in January but Muharram is starting. Can anybody please advise if 3rd of January will be okkk afterall it would be 1 week after benazir's anniversary and I m sure Muharram wouldnt have started by then. Any idea what date would be Muharram starting from approximately. Because if we dont do it in early january then we will have to wait till Muharram ends. Need help.....
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
mauharam r starting on 28th or 29th dec ...most probably
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
^ Yeah, those are the dates I've heard too. That's why we had to postpone mine till later as well. I don't believe in the whole thing but I respect other people's beliefs.
So yeah, you're probably going to have to push it back to feb or march..
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
i'll be in town in december and it better not be a hungama situation- i got shopping to get done!!! :p when is pakistan going to grow up??
Just a final note, according to Muzammil Siddiqui, who is a really well respected scholar, he says there is nothing in Islam to prevent anyone from having a wedding in Muharram, even in the first ten days. Culturally, we don't do it in the first ten days, but that's an innovation. If there was some pressing reason to do it in Muharram, there is no gunah on you.
aik dum right :)
Re: No Weddings in January!!!!
my mother didn't even let us have our engagemnt in muharram...and now i m planning my wedding in next december and have to plan it before muharram starts.
How come Muharram is starting end of December. Eid is supposed to be on 8th of December so if u calculate Muharram would be starting from 7th or 8th of January. Now I m really confused, I dont want to delay my wedding from 3rd of January. Otherwise I will have it after 10th of Muharram or something.
