Hey Peeps,
So turns out ‘Mauharam’ starts in January. Does that mean no weddings can happen in Jan?? Or do people still have weddings after the 10th of mauharam??
Need urgent replies…!!

People from the shia sect wait longer 40 days I think but the others go about their business after the 10. I think.

i kno tht in pakistan no one has wedding in mahrum but here in the US and i think UK to ..its perfectly fine. right?

i dont think its just shias who observe moharram, respecting the month is considered appropriate among all muslims.

I think its only first 10 days of Muharrams and people do have their wedding after those 10 days

yar pehlay to yahan bhi thorughout Muharram bilkul bhi weddings nahi hoti thi but ab karachi main (i dont know about the whole pakistan) main after 10th weddings start hojati hain 2/3 years hogaye is tarah hotay huay n jaisay normal weddings hoti hain wesi he hoti hain...

and some ppl say that you cant have weddings on wednesdays either... I respect those who give Muharram that respect because of their beliefs, but those that dont... I cant understand why they ought to avoid those days for marriage. Its the beginning of the Islamic year, a beautiful time to get married in my opinion.

I guess it is on personal belief. Some ppl wait till rabiul awal for weddings or have them early in zil haj, others don't. So yeah I guess it a personal choice how you observe or celebrate something. If you and your family is ok with it, go ahead, if not then either have it early or wait for a month. There is no hard and fast rule.

im not shia but my family(nd khandaan 4 that matter).. we dont have any festive functions in the whole month of muharram..n we live in north america(other extnd lives in pk n na n europe also)..so my family thinks its not allowed anywhere in the world 4 the whole month..it is disrespectful 2 our whole mazab.

LOL, starting a good thing on wednesdays and doing Nikah on 10th muharram, both are sunnat..

Prophet used to start every good thing on Wed and he had at least one nikah done on 10th of muharram

^ I know! and I heard a rivayat that "noor" was created on a wednesday too so its saddening to see us Muslims so far from our sunnat. I wanted my wedding to be on a wednesday, but opted for a friday in the end :D

Just a final note, according to Muzammil Siddiqui, who is a really well respected scholar, he says there is nothing in Islam to prevent anyone from having a wedding in Muharram, even in the first ten days. Culturally, we don't do it in the first ten days, but that's an innovation. If there was some pressing reason to do it in Muharram, there is no gunah on you.

but from my point of view i think being a proper muslim we should respect all islamic dayz n values,shaadiya to duniawee kaam hain kia hum apne kaamo ko 3 months ke liye agey nai kersaktey shaadiya to baad mei b hoti rahegi wether u r shia or sunni first of all we all r muslims.......but shaadi bhi aik shaarayee kaam hai [sorry not for mentioning it] so wut if we start our new life wid a gud islamic day.?. wut say.
