This was a hot topic on GS last year. Haven’t heard a peep on GS this year about this topic. Are they being imported into North America this year?
Re: No talk of importing Pakistani mangoes this year?
They're Terrorist Mangoes, so a big NO NO for USA.
Re: No talk of importing Pakistani mangoes this year?
I read this today on Pakistani youth page.
*
"Pakistan's first and South Asia's largest hot water treatment plant for mango processing was inaugurated in Karachi on Saturday. After treatment from this plant, exporters can export mangoes via ships instead of sending the consignments by air, as it enhanced the life of mangoes by almost 25 day against unprocessed mangoes.
Pakistan is the only country in the world that has the right technology to keep mangoes fresh for as long as 35 days." *

Re: No talk of importing Pakistani mangoes this year?
It's not North America that's affected... only the US. Thank God we don't have any such restrictions in Canada.
I know of people who come to Toronto a couple of times every summer just to buy and take mangoes to the US... of course, taking the chance that they won't be searched by border services.

yep, Kanpuria Kharbooza and tarbooz are a buzz in Allahabad...they now have oval shaped, seedless tarbooz with red flesh all the way to the skin which is sooo thin...great variety. also the Kharbooza with dark black lines are the best, no doubt! we used to buy by the Tokris too :)

Re: No talk of importing Pakistani mangoes this year?
What?!?! ![]()
I ALWAYS get the “random” search!!! I (used to) love Canadian Bananas… Don’t ask ![]()
And I remember I was bringing back a bunch of bananas and they did like a full on investigation. I was stopped at the border for a good 3 hours because of 6 stupid bananas.
But back to the topic… I bought a few Mexican mangos the other day (they’re SOOOO small!!!) … OH MY GOODNESS! They were SO sour!!! :hinna: I usually have luck with Mexican Mangoes… I guess not yet ![]()

Read this article a while back because I was wondering the same thing:
Mango Diplomacy With Pakistan Hits Road Blocks | PRI’s The World
An excerpt from the article:
*“I am still in debt, paying my bills.”
**Butt imported almost 3 tons of mangoes. He said it was a red-tape nightmare from the start. First it was hard persuade Pakistani mango growers to sell to him. When Butt finally got one orchard to supply him, it charged him triple what it charges the local market. Then there was the high cost of flying the fruit to Chicago and then ground shipment to New York.
**“The first day of arrival we sold about six boxes for $100 a box, in order to cover whatever we could cover.”
**One box holds about six mangoes, so that was about $16 per mango.
**“Then we reduced it to $70, then to $50, then to last day $30,” Butt said. He finally had to throw away about 40 percent of the mangoes he brought in.
*He said the sweet words of diplomacy and a sweet fruit weren’t enough. When it came to the nuts and bolts of getting the mangoes here, this deal left him bitter. He won’t do it again.
Re: No talk of importing Pakistani mangoes this year?

Re: No talk of importing Pakistani mangoes this year?
I think I had started a thread last year because my husband and I both love and miss pakistani mangoes!
This year however, we made a trip to Montreal and were able to buy Pakistani mangoes.. we didnt bring them back to the US becuase we didnt want to take risk with border crossing but we may go back to Montreal in a month or so for mangoes :D

last year my friends visited Toronto and we gifted 6 boxes of mangoes to them only to be thrown out at US Customs. They cant even hide langra, anwar ratol and sindhri. It smells SOOOOOO good. I am sure customs guys can smell it from 10 yards :)
Going to Iqbal this weekend to pick some yum yum delight!
So do you get the good Pakistani mangoes or just so so quality ones?
Excellent quality not 2nd grade ones.
