I have no idea but maybe because in those 50 years many Pakistanis immigrated to Western countries and became much more conservative as a way to “preserve” their culture and values.

You alwyas hear about families who are so super strict in the western countries, while their counterparts in Pakistan are much more liberal.

I agree.

But I still think its quite odd to see women whose mothers probably walked around in sleeveless sarees forbidding their daughters from doing same decades later.
