No Last Name...

Hi guys, my question is that I got married last year and my husband only has a first name he does not have any last name when he was doing his matric the school messed up the papers and now it’s only a first name he has on his Pakistani ID card I already petitioned him so does anyone knows or knows somebody in a similar situation did the immigration people give him problems and should I get it changed???

Re: No Last Name...

you legal name is your identifier...you have a last name or not is not important...btw, is his name like Samiullah, Najibullah, Hidayatullah type of names?

Re: No Last Name...

No it's Hasib

Re: No Last Name...

how is that even possible to not have a last name?

Re: No Last Name...

if you wanna change your name then acquire his FIRST name as your SURNAME...it's really unusual that your husband does NOT have a second name [if NOT his surname]...!!!

if you acquire his first name as your last name, you'll become *Jamila Hasib **

i knew a couple who came to Canada in the early 60's whose names were Hidaayatullah and his wife's name was MoHsina...since ULLAH can NOT be anyone's last name so they had a dilemma. he erroneously entered his surname as ULLAH and his first name as Hidaayat... an he became ULLAH, Hidaayat...while he lend his first name to his wife as her surname and she became HIDAAYAT, MoHsina ...strange! lol*

No Last Name...

I'm wondering the same. But it might give you problems there will just be fields empty in paperwork because they usually ask for your family name which should be his fathers last name I assume even if he doesn't use it legally on IDs. But how does he not have a last name?? They will always ask for it if he's immigrating to the west. I think even changing his name after you've petitioned him will give you more problems. Changing an address is difficult let alone a name after he's been sponsored.

Re: No Last Name...

Odd. :-\

Re: No Last Name...

in old rural areas a lot of Muslims had NO surname...they usually had two names...like:

father's name: Haseen Ahmad
First son's name: Ahmad shakeel
second son's name: Umar fazeel
third son's name: Mohammad Kafeel

here, the emphasis was rhyming names rather than a last name...they ALL had two names.

now in subsequent generations they may have names like:

first grandson's name : Ali AsGhar
second grandson's name: Ali Ahmad
third grandson's name: Ali moHammad

Re: No Last Name...

No guys he did had a last name and it was Hasib Munir but u know how in Pakistan people are stupid no rules nothing when he was in 9...10 grade they messed up the name and ever since then it's only been Hasib he even has a "shanakti Card" paki ID card which only has first name and no last name and then his birth certificate was like this too and our nikah naama also has only Hasib I'm just only scared that when InshaAllah soon he goes for his interview they don't make a big deal about it but basically all the documents only has Hasib and no last name but u know in Pakistan lots of people don't actually have last name

Re: No Last Name...

this is the first time that I have heard of anyone, from this generation at least, that doesn't have a last name.
I'm almost certain that the immigration office will have difficulty with this.
I would have had the documents corrected before applying.

Re: No Last Name…

Even though this is the first time I am hearing this but this is EXCELLENT opportunity You do not have to start "I am angry. should I keep my father’s last name or my husband last name  " thread. just keep your Father’s last name and enjoy life!

PS: This btw is also preference in Islam i.e keeping father’s name with yours. So aam k aam, guthiOON k daam

Re: No Last Name…

I think she’s only asking if there are going to be problems with immigration, nowhere in the first post does it say anything about what ur getting mad about. take a chill pill mate:phati:

Re: No Last Name…

^ mad?

:konfused:

Re: No Last Name...

Are younin US or in Canada? If in US .. Get the documents corrected ASAP like before the case is approved If he can have his surname added on just his passport that should be fine... Or else when he gets his permenamt resident card his name will appear as "Hasib LNU". LNU = last name unknown. Or they will make Hasib his last name and will put FNU instead of first name...

Re: No Last Name...

Yes I'm in the US I don't mind about LNU or FNU inshaAllah azzawajal when he comes over here he will change it but I'm just scared about while the case is pending and him coming over here nothing else.....also DO you know anyone who had this type of situation???? Cuz I'm thinking now that I already mailed the papers and they might say why r u changing it now and u know the immigration people's make a fuss about every little thing

Re: No Last Name...

if you knew this then why didn't you think that a last name missing might be something they would make a fuss about?????
