you don't know any afghans, do you? you are faced with a hostile india and a hostile afghanistan already. if you can tie their prosperity with yours, it is only going to ease matters. but yes, such moves are only possible when all three governments actually have control over the areas they call their own. for now, a beleaguered PPP govt accused of being soft on india uses this to posture as being aggressive against india, but bottomline is this was expected. afghanistan has been requesting a land link with india for 60 years now, with the same result. big surprise now..
Please... That would require trusting India to resolve the issues that confront us in an amicable way.
That doesnt seem to be the case. Indians are more then content with the status quo.
I fear that allowing the Pak economy to become entwined with the much larger India economy will mean having to ultimately become dependent on the Indian economy. This would be tantamount to tying our hands behind out backs.
Im sure the Afghans have been asking for a land link for ages, but the same argument applied then as in now. Why should we allow two of our enemies the use of our territory to further their hostility towards us? What would Pakistan do if its found being flanked on either side? I mean do you even know why Pak has been so involved in Afghanistan?!?! All in the effort prevent such a scenerio... It is also why they are so cautious now about attacking all the taliban all at once. Once the Americans leave, we have a hostile Afghanistan, which will welcome India.
And Afghans were enemies not for nack of land route to India, but because they never recognized the Durrand Line as permanent border.
Any long term regional cooperation will mean moving on the key issues that are causing conflict. Barring that, its just political and strategic suicide to allow Indians access to Afghanistan.
Its all a question of trust. Why should we trust India?
