Re: No gas for Lahore industries
Things seem to have moved in the right direction:
Re: No gas for Lahore industries
I don't really understand the economic managers of this government who advise the government of these kind of steps. The gas supplies for Lahore industries have been halted indefinitely, I am pretty sure the situation of faisalabad won't be any different. The reason for halting the Industrial gas is that sngpl's first priority is domestic users and then cng sector. Although I believe it would have been better if the priority if industries would have been the topmost followed by domestic and cng sector. It seems that the government wants to deliberately harm the industries of Punjab, but it will have a negative impact on the whole countries exports and increase joblessness on the other hand.
Of course, they want to lose votes from the biggest province in the country, where they have millions of voters.
Where do you come up with these theories???
The Real Deal is right, PPP don't want to lose votes on purpose, they are so incompetent that they can't plan such things.
Re: No gas for Lahore industries
How are things moving in the right direction when this is just some statement from some guy who leads some private group?
Re: No gas for Lahore industries
The domestic users in Punjab are not getting the gas either. These days in Punjab women get up 4AM to do the cooking for the whole day as thats the time there is enough gas pressure. For rest of teh day its back to burning wood for an odd cup of tea for middle class households.
While CNG sector is making billions.
This government sucks.
Re: No gas for Lahore industries
Another bad news for the industry, no planning what so ever when the Petroleum minister was saying the same thing for the past 4-5 months

**New Year gift: Minister declares gas emergency in January
**
Talking to the mediamen, Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain announced gas emergency, which many would interpret as the current government’s new year gift. He said that gas is in acute shortage in the country and the Ministry is trying its best to regulate gas under a tight schedule so that all sections get a fair supply. However, he said, January would face severe gas shortage, and it would be like gas emergency in January. Protests have already broken out in Faisalabad and other areas due to prolonged gas loadshedding. A report said the other day that the government is considering shutting CNG stations across Sindh for a month, a step which would push the irked people to the edge.

Punjab industries to face three months gas load-shedding
**LAHORE: A decision was made on Sunday to stop the supply of gas to the industries of Punjab for three months during the winter, DawnNews reported.
**According to sources, the decision was made due to an increase in the demand of gas and its shortfall, along with the problem of gas theft. The current shortage is 400 MCF which will increase to 1000 MCF during the winter.
Currently, industries and CNG gas stations in Punjab are being supplied gas only four day in a week.
According to sources, a nine-month gas supply agreement has been made in the demand notice of the government, whereas the CNG stations will continue to be supplied with gas four days a week as per schedule.%between%

http://tribune.com.pk/story/312853/gas-shortage-businessmen-fear-massive-layoffs/Gas shortage: Businessmen fear massive layoffs
**Businessmen have expressed fears that suspension of gas supply for four days a week will lead to massive layoffs in the industry and asked the government to take back the deci****sion for the sake of economy.
**
**In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said if smooth gas supply was not restored, thousands of industrial workers, particularly daily-wage earners, would face retrenchment. “If there is no gas and electricity, how can a industrial unit continue operations.”
**
**Sheikh said it would be difficult for the industry in Punjab, which employs over 15 million people, to meet export orders worth millions of dollars in the face of gas shortage.
**
“The rise in the number of unemployed will definitely provoke anti-government sentiments and street crimes,” he said and urged the government to immediately shelve the “industry closure plan”.
**“How can the industry afford to pay a high mark-up when there is no gas for us,” he asked. He pointed out that globally the industry was given top priority and contrary to that the industry in Pakistan got least importance and other sectors were given priority.
**
**He said around 40 per cent of industrial units in Punjab ran on gas and the supply disruption meant no production by almost half of the industry and loss of millions of rupees worth of revenues to the government. According to Sheikh, the industry was denied gas for 77 days in 2008-09, 100 days in 2009-10 and 160 days in 2010-11.
