So what’s the deal with this new fashion???
When I was in Lahore recently,I saw sooo many ladies…yes, ladies as opposed to girls…without any dupattas
I or any of my cousins would never dream of setting foot outside without a dupatta,so how can these women just walk around as if it’s no big deal.I mean it probably isn’t to them,so maybe I am being old fashioned. And it’s not just young girls, but aunty types too…you know they’re not exactly spring chickens or dubli patli either.
Personally,I think it’s extremely buhuda,but hey,whatever goes…who am I to judge??
So do/would any of you go without dupatta???
PS: I know I should have started this in Fashion, but I don’t know anyone there
To start a thread in a forum and get feedback from others you do not need to know anyone. If people like your topic they will participate on their own. I am transferring this thread to Fashion.
It is weird (sp) but if I wear shalwar kameez, I feel naked without a dupatta and now with western clothes I have recently felt the same but not as strongly
I could never wear shalwar kameez without a dupatta in Pakistan.. even Isb
aii hai, CO i'm there with you Hun, either wear the shalwaar kamiz properly or dont bother! if you dont want to wear a duputta, stick to jeans and a kurta but i think the outfit looks incomplete without a duputta.
Waisay these big fat aunties and their "khaalee kameezain" probably think they look propa "bad ass and maadrun" but they look bloody stupid!
So is this a Lahore thing??..I mean I didn't see **that **many dupatta less memeh in Karachi.I have heard that fashion Lahore se hi nikalta hai,so is there a chance it will spread?.
I think an outfit looks so much elegant with a dupatta, even around your neck and hanging down the back, but as Deeba said...Live and let live.
even though having worn skirts all my life, i cannot imagine going out sleeveless or duppata less in lahore. I feel so insecure when those guys stare at you as if trying to scan you.
Plus i am often followed and harassed on the roads, staying on road is my majboori, having that big dupatta and fully covering cloths make me feel safer :(
Ok some outfits, just don’t need a duputta…have u guys not seen those flowy long dresses that have an embellished gala and flare out right above the bust? So in a way the entire outfit IS the duputta, its not form fitted or tight at all. While I’ve seen duputta-less outfits like that, I have yet to see a typically shaped kameez without a duputta.

And even when we wear a duputta, maybe all of you girls drape it across your chest, but some wear it just at their neck, or to the side so…yeah…duputta doesn’t necessarily mean you’re
if you feel comfortable wearing a duputta, then by all means…nothing wrong in wearing one.
I wear shalwar kameez at home, but I only wear the dupatta when I pray namaz and sometimes around company depending on who it is. In pakistan and it depends on the relatives...I usually don't wear a dupatta, I don't wear tight clothes. Now when I'm out on the streets, I do wear my dupatta...will even cover my hair sometimes.
When my mom was growing up...her dad (my nana) didn't really put such a strong emphasis on wearing a dupatta at home. He said that as you move and bend...the dupatta is the first thing to fall down. Sure, you can pin it in place...but that can also be annoying. Like Deeba...I'm not used to wearing a stretch of cloth on my shoulders for a lengthy period of time. I also think that if one's clothes are already loose and the various body parents are not defined...you can do without a dupatta. If you look at an abaya (not talking about the hijab)...just the abaya...it's loose enough so that you don't need to drape a dupatta across your shoulder. Other forms of clothes...such as tunics...which is like what a kurta is tend to be loose. Now if you wear it tight...that's another issue. Also, if I feel that my kurta is tight...I usually just wear a loose shirt over it (esoecially when I'm at home)...rather than a dupatta..it just stays better.
aahhh dupatta........ invented to cover ur hair and bust, now jst used to drape over ur shoulder or hang around ur neck like a rope. the world is coming to an end.
on a serious note if u dont feel complete without a duppata fine but if those aunties feel complete without it, its fine too more power to them.
moral of the story if u r gonna BUY a piece of cloth in this economy which has no purpose except for hanging there and making ur outfit 'COMPLETE' i thnk its time for us as a nation to look for sumthing else to wear that will look complete without a rope hangng around our necks. yeah if u use the dupatta to cover ur head and chest like its suposed to then more power to u, money well spent!
dupattas r just an accesory now and in my opinion we can go without an accesory no biggie
Oh that is a fashion here! There are girls in my office who dont wear a duppata all day and when the prayer time comes they take them out of their drawers for namaz. Aunties, teens, ladies of which ever age are resolving to no dupatta fashion. I agree dresses like kaftans dont really need a duppata but proper shalwar kameez, anarkalis, etc. do require a duppatta and give that complete look.
Either resolve to wearing jeans kurta or dont bother ruining the decency of a shalwar kameez.
I would never wear shalwar kameez without a duppatta, its so incomplete, and i certainly would not walk the streets of Pakistan without one :nono: enough pervy looks when you have one on, let alone when your without
I agree…I feel naked without a dupatta but only if its the regular style salwar kameez…with the long flowy type with the bell sleeves its so loose there’s no need to wear a dupatta because your body shape doesn’t really show…so it looks like a dress. Also since there’s so much loose fabric, you don’t wanna add more by adding a dupatta
i dont think it is a big deal for reasons others have already mentioned:
1) deeba n Rv just not comfy with a dupatta (add my name to this list)
2) dupatta is just used like a rope hanging around ur neck these days
and thirdly if u can wear a t-shirt and jeans without a dupatta i dont see the harm in doing the same with a shalwar kameez
