Re: Nikkah..
You are right sara, but keep in mind, Desi parents do things differently; be it your parents or any other desi parents. Since rukhsati is going to take place a few months later, It'll be okay, in my opinion, if you wanna do something light. i.e. gather a few relatives, dress up lightly, some dancing etc. But then again, each person/parents are different.
Re: Nikkah..
I had my nikkah the day before the ruksati. The actual nikkah took place in the masjid. I invited my friends and my parents invited the family friends-adults only. My in-laws invited a lot of people to the masjid as well. After the nikkah we had a little party at home- the adult family friends, the in-laws and family. As for getting dressed up- I wore the suit that my in-laws gave me when they came to do “baat paaki”. I did my own make-up and my sister took the pictures. Hubs wore a shalwar kameez and an ajrak (the one that he got on the baat paki
). ![]()
Re: Nikkah..
Whats ajrak? :)
Re: Nikkah..
^ It’s ‘Chadar’ distinguishable by a characteristic print pattern. More common in Sindh and Southern Punjab.
Re: Nikkah..
The Ajrak is an essential part of the apparel of a Sindhi person. Men use it as a turban, a cummerbund and wound it around the shoulders. Women use it as a dupatta and chaddar, as a shawl and sometimes as a makeshift swing for children. The Ajrak is usually about 2.5-3meters. It is patterned in intense jewel like colors. The dominant colors are rich crimson and a deep indigo. A little bit of white and black is also used to give definition to the geometric patterns.
Re: Nikkah..
Hubs wore the ajrak around his neck. Get him to wear something around his neck instead of a turban.
Re: Nikkah..
Nope, not that either
Re: Nikkah..
NIKKAH is marriage from an Islamic perspective. Rukhsti, mehndi, maieeon are all cultural things mostly from hindu tradition and life style. I think NIKKAH ceremony should have some color, vigor, ronuq and celeberation to it.
Re: Nikkah..
i had my nikkah before my rukhsati....i actually have to admit i looked better on my nikkah than i did on my rukhsati. To differentiate my nikkah from rukhsati i wore churidar pajama instead of wearing a lengha....the function was a lot smaller than our rukhsati....mostly close family. I got ready at Alle Nora....and I got a red outfit from Libas E Khas....wore churiyan and my susral gave me a set that I wore....so I basically looked like a full dulhan dulhan. My set was big thats probably why. I think that engagement should be the simplest....lighter kaam walay kapre...natural to little makeup....really small set...earrings and chain. For nikkah u can get ready at the parlor to get ur hair and makeup done...and to get ur dupatta set. U should also wear a real gold set....And ours was in a hall....my sisters was in a tent in front my cousins house in PK. My cousin in America had her nikkah and it was in her house...so its no biggie where the location is.
Re: Nikkah..
Pyari, there was no “official” engagement ceremony actually, it was just kinda sudden, plus i was far away from home…if i had a chance to do it over again, than i wud sorta do the same, except maybe get a haircut and buy some matching eyeshadow ![]()
