I just read that Nikkah isn’t valid if the bride is having her menses. It’s considered impure and she has to take pills to stop before the ceremony is done. Does anyone know about this?
Re: Nikkah not valid
no.. its not true
Re: Nikkah not valid
it's not true, and it's ridiculous.
Re: Nikkah not valid
Where did you hear about this?
Re: Nikkah not valid

Re: Nikkah not valid

Re: Nikkah not valid
I found this quite funny:D, no its not true
Re: Nikkah not valid
This is a comon missconception that Nikah and Divorce are not valid if woman is having her periods.
Re: Nikkah not valid
Nothing wrong with Nikkah however divorce is probably not valid. Aalim might be able to help.
Re: Nikkah not valid
To all those who are saying “its not true”, have you done any research on this topic, or you are just adding your 2 cents because it just sounds silly?
Anyway, according to this the nikah is valid.
Re: Nikkah not valid
Yes Faisal we have done research on it.
It is not true.
As for Divorce the only reference to menses is regarding the the 3 monthly waiting periods- a man says i divorce you waits for one month (menses cycle) then says it a 2nd time again another cycle...and 3rd time it is valid.
I believe this is to ensure the woman is not pregnant before the divorce is finalized.
Re: Nikkah not valid
I actually agree with the poster- I heard it too whenever I went to Pakistan. I am sure there's no logic behind it and it's not even true but it's a widely believed fact back in Pakistan. We were there for my mom's cousin's nikkah once and she took a pill to stop her periods. Considering she's a doctor herself I don't know why she did that because soon after, I kept hearing from my mom and my aunts that she regretted doing that. I don't know what complications she had exactly besides that she couldn't conceive for almost 4 years but she till date regrets interfering with the cycle.
I think this tells us that we really need to do LOTS of research before doing anything to our bodies or meddling with our internal systems.
Re: Nikkah not valid
To the best of my knowledge, there are no complications in taking that pill. The reason is pretty simple. There is a reasonable expectation (nothing to do with religion or culture etc) that a newly married husband and wife will consummate the marriage on wedding night, so the pill helps to temporarily stop the bleeding. It has no long-term or short-term side effects as long as you don't over do it. Again, check from your physician before taking any medication (and don't rely on postings on a public discussion forum). :)

Divorce is not final until 3 months have passed?
Re: Nikkah not valid
^Divorce is not final if a woman is pregnant
Re: Nikkah not valid
where do people come up with this?
Re: Nikkah not valid
^ the only thing i can think of... is that they can't have sex after hte nikkah b/c she's on her period... and as a result, some ppl think if u don't consummate ur marriage til the valima, the valima is invalid or something. maybe theres something else to it. :@:
