go for video-conference over internet, if possible, than the nikah on phone.. it serves better

Personally i dont know anyone who's nikah was done this way, but as far as i know a nikah done over the phone, there simply has to be witnesses/guardians at either end; just as it would be if done in person, if not the nikah is not valid.
As for it being a trend in Pakistan, i dont think that comment holds any merit but then again it comes down to the circumstances for the individual.

As for it being legal, i suppose it is as i outlined above aslong as their are witnesses.
Surely you can find some reference material online, why are you considering it?.

PCG, this practice has been going on for a long long time. I think ppl get nikkah on the phone and later on he/she joins the partner. However, before taking such a measure, make sure you know the other family very well. one of my friend got married like this over the phone. She quit college, getting ready for marriage. The guy never came to take her, and she spent about 2-3 yrs at her mother in law's house waiting for him. He apparently had another marriage and had only agreed to these phone marriage under his parents' pressure. But her life got ruined forever!

I've only heard of this happening where the families know each other very, very well.
The convenience of it is the only reason why it is undertaken. Doing the nikaah on the phone permits an individual to sponsor their husband or wife and once the process is over and the visa issued, they go back home and do the official rukhsati and other functions.

i had my nikkah over the phone...the molvi saab was in pakistan with my hubby and i was here in canada....my uncle were the witnesses here and they asked me the whole "kabool hai" thingy....then i sponserd my hubby...there were no problems...(this was 6 years ago)

I lost contact. But this reminds me, I’ll check with another friend sometimes. Hope she’s doing better. Poor her, quit college to get married and then wasted 2-3 years at her inlaws

i dont see why it wouldnt be....it's the same thing as having the nikkah done while the bride and groom are in separate rooms.

yeah i dont know, cus on the phone u dont see each other, and on the other side no one can see if u are forced to say yes or something .. in a programme the moulvi saab said like this ..

My nikkah was done on video conferencing; but the latency picked up due to slow internet connection in pak and we had to switch it to phone. It's perfectly arite.

I attended one such nikah where the dullah had his nikah infront of a big plasma screen. I think they were doing it over MSN. So they went through the qalmas and duas then dullah turned around and sat on a huge sofa on the stage. (kulum kula)
