NIC, NICOP, Pakistan Origin Card... Help!

Well the NADRA website is not updated and they are still showing the previous fee structure. The fee for a 9 year validity NICOP card was $75, so it is infact a reduction of about 80%. Good news, if true.

$75 fee of NIC?

Maybe, NIC fee is different for Pakistanis livin' in Arab States and North America.

The card issued to Pakistani citizens living abroad is not the same as CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) issued to resident Pakistanis (for Rs 50).

The overseas Pakistanis, regardless of where they live (US, Arab, Europe etc) are issued NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis) which is priced much higher (in US dollars).

If someone is not currently a Pakistani citizen (not a passport holder) and living abroad, than he or she is not entitled to NICOP, and instead needs to get a POC (Pakistan Origin Card). The fee is similar to NICOP.

All these cards are issued by NADRA. Not sure which fee Jamali saab reduced. Should be the NICOP, cz in Gulf most Pakistani still carry Pakistani passports and can't change their citizenship to host Arab countries.

The news article you quoted said the fee is reduced and validity increased (to 10 years). In earlier fee structure a 9-yr card was priced at $75. A 3 year card was priced at $25. Got it? :)

Brother Faisal,

Jamali talked about NIC. Thanks for the info about NADRA. :)

Since Jamali was addressing people in Gulf, so talking about CNIC wouldn't make any sense. So he could only be talking about NICOP. Plus CNIC is not payable in US$, but is only paid in Pak Rs and is only issued within Pakistan as the person has to be present for his pic to be taken for the card.

POC is for Pakistani people who have other nationality
NICOP is for people who are Pakistani nationals but living abroad.

NIC is for all pakistanis.

NICOP is in English and same as NIC.

basically all are same.

POC and NICOP are designed to make money. they should have the same fee as of NIC. its unfair to charge pakistanis more who live abroad. we are pakistanis even we live here or some of us born here.

printing a card in urdu or english costs the same, they have same security features. and i am impressed they have used 2 Dimensional Bar code unlike other common bar codes.

Has anyone living abroad actually receive their card yet?
If so, how long did it take?

Re: NIC, NICOP, Pakistan Origin Card… Help!

Was looking for some info on renewing NICOP and Pakistani passport in Canada, and WOW!! Came across this old thread on GS from the early bronze age

here is my dilemma :frowning:

I live in Alberta (Calgary), and the nearest consulate is in Vancouver, a $600 return flight - EACH!
For a family of 4, that’s $2400 , plus the cost of accommodation, boarding lodging and food etc in one of the most expensive cities in Canada, you are looking at around $3500 minimum to get the effing passports renewed. We have 2 toddlers and cant really rough it out and survive on bread and stay in a road side motel!!
And we haven’t even started talking about the cost of the passport itself , and the NICOP. The total bill will be between $4000 - $4500

Attendance is mandatory so there is no way around it :frowning:

I sent an email to the MOFA (ministry of Foreign affairs) and the high commissioner in Canada. They did reply (another WOW!!) but basically told me to go take a walk as I was too immature and dumb to understand these policy matters and the reason behind putting the consulate in Vancouver which has only a few Pakistanis living there compared to Alberta (Calgary /Edmonton) which has the 2nd highest population of Pakistanis in Canada after the Toronto area.

I suggested to them that should do camp office in Calgary or Edmonton every month for a day or two. They said its not possible for operational reasons for now, but they will submit this suggestion to committee for review…

Guess I am not visiting Pakistan any time soon…

Re: NIC, NICOP, Pakistan Origin Card… Help!

Foreign missions of Pakistan are there to make life of Pakistani miserable… iam glad they are doing good job there in Canada…uou shoud send them another email and comend them for the great service they do provide…and try to call the high commissioner and ask him how do he come up with such great ideas to make life of fellow Pakistami miserable…tell him.he should be considered for Noble price…

I did the same…it did helped others…

Re: NIC, NICOP, Pakistan Origin Card… Help!

the icing on the cake is that they can only accept 20 applications per day, no more than that
so anyone from outside the province of British Columbia is in deep shytee, if he cant make it to the group of 20 for that day. That means at least one more of staying in Vancouver and $500 - $600 hundred extra dollars.

its a good thing that money grows on trees in Canada, otherwise it would be difficult to manage these ridiculous expenses.

Re: NIC, NICOP, Pakistan Origin Card… Help!

is this necessary to have it. I mean u cannot travel on ur Canadian PP. Is getting pakistani visa for a canadian is more difficult ?? wow get a paksitani visa ???

Re: NIC, NICOP, Pakistan Origin Card… Help!

Why is ‘attendance’ required? I applied for my NICOP and kids POC all online. Are you talking about NICOP/POC or visit visa?

Re: NIC, NICOP, Pakistan Origin Card… Help!

For the Passport, you need to visit consulate as they require digital fingerprint and photograph, quite an easy process but yes you gotta attend in person. The process has been streamlined (no need to bring photos, or a stack of papers), just 2-3 documents are enough. The passports are made in Pakistan and then sent overseas by NADRA/DGIP.

Regarding NICOP, you can now do it online (the hassle is getting the fingerprints scanned), and it is issued within a week. I applied my NICOP on thursday, and guess what, by Monday it got delivered to my door by DHL. Within 4 days which was surprising. (i went to consulate to apply, at that time it was not available online)

You can travel to Pakistan with Canadian passport + NICOP. You don’t need Pak passport if you’re a Canadian citizen. If you hold PR Card, then ofcourse you require passport and got no choice.

Try to find an airbnb or cheaper accomodation in order to get things done cheaper. Get to the office before time and insist u need to get it done. Get the C.G. involved if necessary and request appointmnet on that day by email so that when u go they can accomodate you.

Usually people know and keep track of expiry dates of travel documents. They get it done whenever they get chance.
Only the people who ignore it all (until they need it) find it difficult to handle it when all of a sudden they need it. It happens everywhere. I’m glad the whole embarrassing hand-made passports are gone, they were such a nuisance.
