next muslim nobel prize winner

I know this topic has been discussed a few times. Last time I remember was over a year ago, so it’s time to see how the opinions have changed.

What do you deem are the reasons why muslims never are considered for Nobel prizes? discrimination? or are Muslims zero when it comes to innovations, scientific progress, peace-progress, literary heights etc?

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

well same was my case, and i wanted to know about the new fresh books … and your post is the answer of your question…

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

so, if it is discrimination, do you think the muslim world should start a new prize....e.g. the annual muslim scientist prize? (i know there is a somewhat similar award, but it's hardly known to anyone)

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

Well as far as Pakistan specific...minus Abdus Salam..we have had two contenders for Nobel Prizes, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Edhi..in present day terms Edhi should have been a winner ages back..as a whole it is also used as a political tool..I mean Arafat received the prize as did that lady from Iran..

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

Nes, maybe in fields like literature or something. But modern science and economics is unislamic, u know wiht the whole cloning and interest and stuff..tauba tauba

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

the muslim countries seem to be least intersted in research....
the university research grants r close to ZERO....
there is no appreciation for genius in the muslim world....
a man may be very innovative and have lots of ideas but without any financial backing, he cant bring those ideas to reality and hence they die with him....

unless the muslim countries realize that they need to invest in research, we inat going anywhere.....

a professor told me that his friend in UK has got a 0.6 million pounds research grant for a phd in water desalination....
i took up a topic in the same field in my university, advised by my supervisor to put the required fund to a maximum of around 1,000 pounds (less acually) otherwise the university wud turn it down....
when i go to the industry to get data from their plants, telling them that the research cud benefit their own company, they tell me the data is confidential....
but if i contact a company in UK or USA they will consider my request as urgent matter and give me every bit of information needed....
they cud even finance the research if properly pursued....

and u dont get nobel prizes if u aint doing any research....

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

Prof. Hoodbhoy (or how ever he spells his name) is smart. There were a few other in the Qaid-e-Azam Physics department worthy of international attention, they have since been shot or are in exile researching in a western country.

Pakistan has a lot of potential and can go very far with it but my hunch is that as far as the sciences are concerned a foreign citizen with Pakistani roots will most probably get a Nobel.

I would love to see Eidi getting a Nobel but Pakistan government has to pull some strings. In sciences you can prove yourself through papers and presentation, humanity work needs a little better PR. Currently someone like Mushraff is more likely to get a Peace than Eidi or Asma Jehangir.

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

Knowing muslims, whenever one succeeds in something someone has to bring in other issues that aren't relevant to their success. Instead of being united in something we shud all be proud of, we bring each other down because ones' scarf doesnt cover her hair properly (peace prize winner), shes wearing a skirt (sania mirza), morons on GS cursing her and her children out (asma jahangir)

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

Well, noble prize is noble prize due to wide spread talk about it in media.

As suggested earlier, a prize can be started by any nation or group to honor good people in every field.

Does Edhi need Noble prize to be recognised?

Will it really make a difference to his work?

Surely it will encourage others if a good person is recognised but this can be achieved by ANY award well publicized.

Stop competting for a particular award but continue good work anywway should be our real attitude.

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

For Muslims it is the age of mediocrity. Any brilliance, individualism, intellectual desire is nipped in the bud by those that fear that their own shortcomings can be exposed.

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

When you are bound by flimsy absolutes...there is little chance of innovation.

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

well i ve to agree with u here…muslims(or shud i say desi ppl ) r like crabs in a bucket.they them selves dont progress and dont allow others to progress.typical example as u said saina mirza.ab in mardon ka kya kiya jaye.they dont ve control on their moral values and blame poor sania for it.

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

should there be an annual award for someone who has put in huge effort for the muslim cause? the integral/peaceful/socio-economic stability of islam?

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

Mahatir is a good candidate I think.

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

oh you meant to say Mullahs on GS

Re: next muslim nobel prize winner

there is a Agha Khan Award for architecture design in muslim world....

although they r conisdered non-muslims by majority of the muslims, but they call themselves muslims so i thought we cud mention them....
atleast they r funding the cause of research....
