Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
i can't believe that the Kiwi captain did NOT enforce follow on. if India wins, it's like New Zealanders snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. only Kiwis CAN do such blunders.
it's strange that both teams in their first innings were 3 wickets down for a paltry sum. NZ was butchered in the second innings. India has a good start...let's see if they can win this match. it will be sorta gift given to India in a platter. i think if Dhawan, Kohli and Dhoni score big, this match is winnable.
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
270/5 at tea on day 4
India have done well with the bat but NZ are right back now
Rahane fell to poor decision. Big inside edge not spotted by Steve Davis. Hence DRS is needed to correct shockers

Boult to Rahane, OUT, and what a beauty first ball. What a perfect ball. That has swung, but oh - hold on - Rahane has hit this one. What a time for a rough call. The game could change because if this. A lovely inswinger first of all. Starts around off, comes back in, hits him plumb in front, except that Rahane has hit it. Oh what drama at Eden Park. A Kallis-esque moment from Wanderers
AM Rahane lbw b Boult 18 (21b 3x4 0x6) SR: 85.71
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
India had the run chase under control for most of the innings and could have gotten over the finishing line if 1 or 2 batsmen had not played unnecessary shots. Jadeja batted well but he played one too many expansive shots (this was not a one-dayer; there were still 1.5 days left!) and perished in the process
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
plus a few decisions went against India...Steve Davis is arguably one of the worst umpires in international cricket right now. This is not the first time he has been so poor
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
Congratulations to the black caps for the win.
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
BCCI is stupid to not require the DRS. Absolutely insane.
However, that doesn't give carte blanche to the umps to give decision after decision that are one sided. In the crucial 2nd inning, Murali Vijay was negotiating the kiwi howlers with ease. Till that phantom nick earned a caught behind courtesy Kettleburrow.
With Rahane and the erstwhile Nohit mounting a comeback, Rahane was given LBW by the one and only Steve Davis off a clear inside edge. (I have stated in the past that I shudder when Mr. Davis is on duty).
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
The 3rd umpire got in on the act to make it a real team effort. Declaring a no ball as a fair ball upon review per ump's request. And off went Dhoni ( who lived up to his fisherman title in the first inning).
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
Except for "sir" Jadeja, the Indian team was not interested while Fielding. While Ross Taylor snapped up a sharp catch at 1st slip during India's 2nd inning, Murali Vijay was Mr. Consistent. Dropping one sitter in each inning.
You have heard it before from Lala, "Catchis win Matchis".
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
Sure india need to protect them self fro relegation ( keeping such performance )
10th defeat in 11 tests ( overseas )
One draw is also due to stupidity of SA.

Agree, now it is clear why the "big" one wanted protection from relegation.
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
To the best of my knowledge(I could be wrong) most countries these days play well mainly at home. SA win in Australia being an exception? The "mighty" English after rising to number 1 in Test cricket went south in a hurry.
India's whitewash overseas is well deserved. The earlier whitewashes primarily caused by overpersitence with first-ball Sehwag, off side chasing Gambhir, the wall that wasn't and Very Very old Laxman. Dhoni is one of the most unimaginative captains in Test cricket. His positioning behind the stumps for the "fast" bowlers give an impression it is axcombo of Thompson/ Holding/ Roberts hurling the ball at a zillion KPH. The slip (non) cordon has a porosity of 100%.
But for these minor problems....
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
England rising to number 1 and going south very quickly and India losing 10 out of 11 test overseas while boasting a very strong batting line up and club standard bowling just goes to show why these two along with Aus wanted "protection" from relegation. Talk about being pathetic.
Re: New Zealand v India Test series 2014
Don't know what is going on in terms of power grab issues. Hate that part of the sports.
In addition to club level bowling, the lack of effort wrt Fielding is perplexing. Destroys the confidence of howlers if routine catches are dropped.
Shami is the real deal IMO. Umesh Yadav and Varun do bowl 140 kph plus. Ishant is showing some signs of life. These guys probably have better figures if their slip cordon conssisted of Kiwis or Aussies.
Abhinav Mukund as an opener is far better than Dhawan - just an aside.
The openers scoring 20 runs in 10 overs in ODI reflect the negative approach of Dhoni.

The other two in the big three have been poor overseas as well
Australia got whitewashed in India 4-0 (2013)
England got whitewashed 3-0 in UAE (v Pakistan, 2012) and Australia 5-0 (2013/14)

India could have won this game (despite the umpiring) had one or two batsmen (Sir Jadeja included) shown better application
