Re: are sharara's and gharara's most fashionable rite now?
I love being up to date on trends and fashions but here is the deal:
Your body type, complexion and taste determine what will make you look stunning on your wedding day.
Some women look amazing in very contemporary looks and some look just plain wierd. Those women can pull of a traditional look beautifully. The trick is, find a color combination that suits your skin tone first and then a style that suits your body type.
In Pakistan, you will find everything being done when it comes to the wedding day. You will find shararas, lehngas, ghararas, patiala shalwars, chooridar pajamas, peshwaz, etc. You name it and its been done! Personally, I feel the traditional look of a bride is what makes her the bride. How many times in your life will you wear a jhoomer and tika?
I know a girl who wore a peshwaz on her wedding and another girl who wore one on her valima. I know a girl who wore a gharara on her wedding day and another girl who wore it on her mehndi. Find the styles you have always wanted to sport and rock them out during your wedding functions...this is the time to do it!!!
i'm getting married next year in pakistan. i live in england so i'm not really aware of the new trends which people follow nowadays in wedding. if you could please share with me stuff like, what colours should the bride n groom wear on the mendi/mayoon, as well as their families. and other stuff which is going on now, please
Keep coming here on Gupshup regularly, to the wedding and fashion section you'll get to know all. And we'v got lovely guppans who'll help u out InshAllah... whens the wedding..? At the moment i'd say take a look at bridal pics thread, to get intouch with wedding dresses...
bella, thats really good, its a change from the traditional thing, isnt it?
zara, wedding's in july nex year inshaAllah. i've started looking at bridal dresses, i was thinking of making some sort of a contrast, like hot pink and blue, or pink and bottle green or some other colours.
u know, some years ago, my brother got married and all the boys wore white shalwar kameez and yellow dupattas, is there still something like that?
Great thread, the traditional colors for a mehndi are yellow and green but people are moving away from that and other colors like red, pink etc are accpetable as is light make up as before the trend was to hide the face and go make up free. Even if you opt not to go to a slaon for mehndi make up, its recommendaed that you do ypur own albiet a lighter touch. The trend is also for the groom to complment the brides' clothes. There is an exterme which isa matching red sherwani or moderate that is a matching tie or pagri/ headgear. Trend is to go for a more contemparary look over look for the bride especially on the valima, where pastels may rule. You can still wear red/ maroon etc at the wedding though. The eyes are emphasized with a lighter lip for both days, even smoky eyes though dark lips are also still in fashion if that's what you prefer. The pancake look (white foundation is out). For jewelry one large necklace (or even a lighter one) is usuallyworn instead of the multiple ones that used to be worn before. Tikka, jhoor , matha patti are all in. The nath is optional. French manicures are also in for the bride, although you can still do the darker nails.
For family members, they can wear anything, the trend nowadys is long kameezes with culotte pants (wide trousers). That's the latest. Though ghararas etc are also in. For teh brideherslef the lehnga still rules but a two legged gharara, farshi or not, or even a sari can be worn.
just with the jewell, i guess nowadays layers of necklaces are in like sath lari and rani haar etc...
Thanks Zara, I have seen those too and was thinking about it (the rani haris etc), I think they go with a more traditional look think Ziran Bukhari than a more contemporray look thgough. Not that there's anything wrong in either. I am a great fan of the traditional look if done right.
hi...
I am also getting married next year.. the date is not confirmed yet but its next year insha Allah... great thread, I was also wondering about the new "ins" for the weddings.. i am from karachi... and would love to get new ideas... thanks...
hmmm, i dont think blue and yellow would go together very well, just thinking of it reminds me of a beach! but olive green and mustard seems good. and i think hot pink and olive/bottle green would be good for menhdi.
there.. yay it worked.. yah im thinkin something like this for mendi but instead of a langha.. i want churriadar or shalwar kameez.. what do you guys think?? is this good for mehndi???? the color combo??? i just love the soft green and tea pinkkk.....

How about a gharara?Color combo is nice, the green retians the traditional touch while the pink adds the contemporary look. Where are you going for your bridal make up?

^I'd say do a churidaar, but not a lehnga or gharara since you'll probably do both of these on the shaadi and valima. That way it'll be something different :)
^ yellow is a tricky color to pull off and your arms do a very good job! :P
i can't do a lot of yellow... i wore bright yellow for a home mayyoun and i'm convinced it only worked because i had a summer tan. on the mehendi, i chose a muted, gold-like yellow to be on the safe side. i think you gotta know which yellow you can pull off- i've seen some very pretty brides look sickly and pale in the wrong yellow on their mayyoun and mehendi's. such a shame.
