NEW DELHI—Thanks to widespread outsourcing of telephone-service jobs, a sixth caste has blossomed in India: the Khidakayas, a mid-level jati made up of technical-support workers. “I am happy to be a Khidakaya,” said technical-support agent Ranji Prasat, who speaks English with a flawless American accent and goes by the name “Ron” at work. “While we rank below members of the reigning order, those of us responsible for helping Americans track their online purchases and change their account PINs share many privileges not enjoyed by the merchant class below us.” Prasat said he expects to marry another tech-support worker.
It's too bad that 95% of tech support in India can barely speak English, even while being provided with "American accent training". As a result, the North American clients become increasingly frustrated. It may be cheaper, but not good for companies in the long run.
Indian Tech-Support guys are soooooo irritating and frsutrating, as soon as I hear "hallo thees ees George ispeaking" I say to them with my best gora sahib accent "Sorry I don't speak to foreigners, please can you put me through to somebody who speaks English".
better than having a caste based on how “aryan” u are
while pakistanis sit on their sofas laughing at how much more whiter they are than indians and how much makeup bollywood wears, indians are increasingly approaching the highest paid minority in US, snagging tech jobs, working hard etc etc.
hope i can find that article for u it published in TOI some two weeks back.surprise is that they r paying indians twice they eran in india:) hope some day i start my own clinic in pak after i graduate
haha yeah right. just because pakistanis think a punjabi accent isnt an accent doesnt mean the rest of the world cant hear one. most pakistanis cant even speak urdu without an accent, forget about english.
