Not a serious runner, but any running I was doing is now shot with a lisfranc metatersal injury, hoping to avoid surgery because that will mean this summer league is out
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
om hreem chamundaye namah!
ran a 10K last month in 44:14, and a 5K 3-4 months ago in 21:27. so maybe not quite 40 meters, maybe 15-20. :p
taking a break from running, too many niggling aches and tightness issues waiting to be injuries. going to india for two weeks, and will use it as time off to heal up. and start the next training cycle.
do you have a training plan? how much do you would be running in a week? i find planning out a week or two of runs helps me stay motivated, but then i'm a rigid control freak.
that's awesome! i've got a 10k run coming up soon. i did a practise one recently and i got a time of 54.32.. i'd love to be able to do your time though. do you have like some kind of specific training plan? would be nice to see it. (if you dont mind)

Don't know what lisfraanc metatersal injury is.Hope you don't aggravate it. Good luck! I recall you play Rugby.
Used to play football / soccer. Not too good at it. Headed a ball while defending. Have had floaters in the eye ever since. And hamstring, groin are 1st to give out as one ages. Insert sigh smiley here.
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
Our readers should know we have a sister thread which had an IPO today. That thread is interactive. This one? Active.
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
Went to the track with the wife. I did 4 x 1 mile repeats, 200m walk in between. The wife did 3x1 mile repeat. With 400m walk.
She had her best repetitions to date.
1) 11m 23
2) 10m 40
3) 10m 35.
For perspective, the last time she did this workiut was 18 September 2013.
1) 11m 23
2) 11m 06
3) 10m 59
She has had to take some time off due to travel etc. So this one was kickasss.
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
My times for today.
1) 8m 59
2) 9m 18
3) 9m 36
4) 9m 16
PS. 10K @ 54. Awesome.

A lisfranc
Lisfranc (Midfoot) Injury-OrthoInfo - AAOS
I have to figure out alternative fitness options for this year
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
Ouch. Looks like you are following the approach below.
" Nonsurgical Treatment If there are no fractures or dislocations in the joint and the ligaments are not completely torn, nonsurgical treatment may be all that is necessary for healing. A nonsurgical treatment plan includes wearing a non-weightbearing cast for 6 weeks. You must be very strict about not putting weight on your injured foot during this period. This then progresses to weightbearing in a removable cast boot or an orthotic.
Your doctor will want to follow up with you regularly and take additional x-rays to make sure your foot is healing well. In the course of follow up, if there is any evidence that the bones in the injured joint have moved, then surgery will be needed to put the bones back in place"
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
Wife said her arms were sore. A sign the reps yesterday were an honest evening at the track.

i mostly try to run 5-7 days a week, most of the runs are at an effort that feels easy for upto an hour. one of the runs on the weekends is a longer run at easy effort - 90 mins or so. one run in the mid week is a tempo run - warm up for a couple of miles, then 20 minutes at a speed i feel i can only maintain for an hour, then cool down jog. sometimes i substitute the tempo run with running a hilly trail near here which really kicks my butt.
so typically a week looks like
M - 7 easy
T - 7 tempo or hill
W - 5 recovery (achy slow jog)
R - rest
F - 6 easy
Sa - 10 easy
Su - rest
Southie, yes, in a removable boot and now beginning to use magnesium plates and support orthotics to prevent foot from flexing.
Can start recumbent bike in a few weeks, no running. Elliptical or rowing. So upper body, and also leg exercise where there is no weight on the foot.
Other options given are yoga minus anything with foot flex/weight or boxing
So now if you hear of a dude in a boot beating the crap out of a bag, that's me. Going to go see a trainer next week he has worked with similar cases and worse ones before.
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
Beat the crap out of that bag. Good luck!
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
Today was to be a 7 mile run day along the river. Wife was still not 67.5% after Thursday Mike repeat. Plus tax day preparation took the wind out of the sail - or whatever the saying is.
My kaalu was kadukkaling. I recall writing this in earlier post. Maybe git to get new shoes. These are well worn.nat least 3-4 years old if not more.
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
After 1 Mile we were spent. Did fartlek. Which means fo what ur mind damnable well pleases. Total 3 mikes in 36 sec. Lot of walking will do that.
Did weights. The usual.
Situps. Usual.
Dinner beckoned.
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs

Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
One alert reader asks: in post 19, you wrote 3x120. What r u smoking. Beginning of season. And u r burning the track with 120m reps? And that too o ly 3?
That was a typo. 3x1200m. Once our column is published we have limited time to correct errors. After that it just goes into a time capsule.
We thank our alert reader. We also request said reader mind reader language. Besides, we don't smoke. Neither do we interact.
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
Today was mountain jog walk day. 1600 ft elevation. Next week we have a run/ race. To climb mountain. Com drown.unclimbable Again. Come down. Of course such evenrs are simply racing against ones previous times.
Wife was still sore after Thursday reps. It was tough going for her today. I just did sprint reps. About 70 steps fast. Wait. Repeat. Jogged down. Good for quads to do that, as our staff pointed out in the interactive thread. (Did we mention we are active?)
Will do some pushups and stretching.
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
@queer 3 days easy. One day slow jog. Only one day tempo. That too for to min u are doing only 1h pace.
This workout is great for season beginning. When you are building base
IMO u r putting too many miles. 35 miles? Endha dow? That is the American way of training. Cut down a but on quantity. And convert those miles to speed.
Some speed workout based on ur 103 sec per lap 5K PR.
10x400 at. 90s. Per lap. 200m walk between reps
5-6x800m 96 sec per lap. 200m walk.
4x1200m Rep at 99sper. 300m walk.
I would keep the tempo. But the 20min portion should be faster. Say 85% effort.
Start off with 1200m Rep. Do for 2 weeks. Then two weeks 800m reps. Then 400m.
As u get deeper into season u can have 2 speed workouts per week.
Try windsprints. 100m 80% effort. -00 m jog around curves. Repeat for say 8 rounds.
I am sure u can find a nearby pallikudam track.
M - 7 easy
T - 7 tempo or hill
W - 5 recovery (achy slow jog) R - rest
F - 6 easy
Sa - 10 easy
Su - rest
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
Yesterday was rest day. Walkeed 30 min during lunch.
Today 20 min walk lunch.
Evening fartlek.1 mile jog. Then brisk run/walk run/walk for another mile. Weights two sets curls.
And then the fat lady sang.
Re: New season, clean slate, fresh training logs
Southie bhai, do you and others use any apps to track the logs and progress?
