WASHINGTON: The International Republican Institute (IRI) poll, partly reported on Friday, shows that the Pakistan Army, which had “long been the most respected institution in the country,” has taken a dive in popularity, plunging from an 80 percent approval rating to 55 percent. The most admired entity in Pakistan remains the media with a 78 percent approval rating. According to the IRI, “The drop in the Army’s prestige is likely due to the unpopularity of Musharraf. When Pakistanis were asked if the performance of Musharraf affected their opinion of the Army, 31 percent said that they now had a higher opinion due to his actions and 20 percent said that their opinion had not changed, while a plurality of 41 percent said that Musharraf’s performance caused them to now have a lower opinion of the Army.”
Re: New IRI Polls: 67% of Pakistanis want Mushrraf to go now.
What you say is interesting is actually very sad and tells the true state of affairs in Pakistan. We were very close to becoming Afghanistan v2.0 before Musharraf reversed that trend somewhat.
How did he reverse the trend? Taliban are still alive and kicking and the only ones that hes controled is civil society? So how in the world has Musharaf controled it?!?!
Re: New IRI Polls: 67% of Pakistanis want Mushrraf to go now.
The press has no code of conduct to begin with. That is why they printed this and other propaganda items (Shaukat Aziz's wife is jewish etc.) without checking even the most basic of facts. For all we know, this fake poll was created by anti-Mush people to discredit him.
Then Shaukat Aziz should have gone to the courts and sued the media for defamation...
I dont know why the concept of justice is so alien to you... The media has to create a code of conduct but it has to be through legal channels, not through emergency rule, and at gun point...
And everyone must be out to discredit the dictator as no one in the world has written anything flattering about this dictator...
Wake up buddy, everyone hates Musharaf.. He is reviled! Even the US is sick of him... If it werent for the war on terror they would have dumped him a long time ago...
Re: New IRI Polls: 67% of Pakistanis want Mushrraf to go now.
Not really. Its quite common in USA and Europe that candidate lags behind badly in "opinion polls" and "exit polls" and they manage to pull the victory on election day. .....now don't tell me all those elections of USA, UK, FRANCE etc are rigged ...
Decent, do you really think USA is only influencing developing countries?? If you have followed the last elections in France and Germany you will realize that foreign investors have made their wishes come true. Sarkozy and Merkel are by no means good or great leaders, but since USA has had them sponsored and propagate all around the world to win.
Economy is Germany is no more suffering...a similiar situation we see in Pakistan.
Its all about money and neo-cons.
Re: New IRI Polls: 67% of Pakistanis want Mushrraf to go now.
Funny or not, it only proves the point that besides you and handful of loyalists, NO ONE SUPPORTS THIS DICTATOR… Writing on the wall buddy.
Shame on Musharaf… He is the worst leader in history, a complete liar and dictator.. And he will go out the same way as any dictator, most likely in a cedar box.

Re: New IRI Polls: 67% of Pakistanis want Mushrraf to go now.
Shame that our army has suffered due to a mediocre leader as their head. Inshallah now that they have got rid of this power crazy dictator the army morale and standing will improve. we can already see the results as Kiyani took over and the operation in Swat began to bore fruit. all Kiyani wants is Pakistan cleared of f these terrorists , unlike Musharraf who used them to strengthen his hold on kursi. That is the difference between a professional soldier like Kiyani and third rate joker like Musharraf.
