^ Hafeez was dropped and Inzi said that he will not play for Pakistan again. Following that he stayed out of the team for nearly 3 years till he scored runs in Australia last year and was recalled.

Nope. Catch me in the slips was Farhat. Incidentally, those people who are trying to go after Butt just need to compare records, between Butt, Hafeez, Farhat, Taufiq Umar, Yasir Hameed etc - and you'll see who the superior opener is - Butt. He was out of the team for Tableeghi Inzamam's bias - pure and simple. Maybe Inzamam didnt like him cos he speaks English and went to Lahore Grammar School instead of Multan's Tableeghi centre! Kher, now Inzy is thankfully gone, and with him so is Hafeez..full stop.
Butt better than the others, Undhaon mein kana raja is hardly the answer. He has technical problems with his batting and I hope he does not come back to the team as a player let alone as a captain till he has resolved these problems.

Sir ji - Ian Chappell, Barry Richards, Imran Khan, Robin Jackman etc know a lot more about cricket and cricketers than you, me, and anyone else on the forum. All of them considered Butt to be the best opener Pakistan has produced since Saeed Anwar, even Adam Gilchrist said so in 2005 when Butt got a 100 against them....
Form is temporary and class is permanant - any guy who gets 100's in front of a packed hostile crowd at Eden Gardens, or in Australia against Mcgrath and Warney has the ability and the temperament.
Its Inzys fault that he dropped him for the mediocre likes of Hafeez. Agar drop karna hi thaa, then you drop him for someone who is better. Hafeez's record speaks for itself...it's only because of bias that he stayed with the team for so long. He did notthing do deserve a place ahead of Butt or even Yasir Hameed for that matter...so yes friendships or kissing up to the skipper does get you into the team...prime examples are Hafeez and Rana Naveed.

ManiaX, you can't seem to give up your obsession against Inzi can't you? There is everything wrong with your assumption, Akmal was considered one of the best wicket keepers by same bunch when he had his high moments, now they do not. You have to maintain your form in order to be considered the best. Asif is also being considered in class with McGrath, but if he looses his form, he is a medicore bowler.
Get some new talking points, your Mullah excuses are getting old.
Your examples of Eden garden and 100 against Australia, do you know those wickets were flat track?

So we should play him just because these guys have praised him. Guess what, they have praised many others. The guy who time and again gets out in the same fashion (catch in the slips) is neither good nor anywhere near the class of Saeed Anwer. It is an insult to Saeed Anwer to be compared to him.
Saeed was pure class, Butt is a flat track bully.

Saeed was 100% pure class, and I was his biggest fan as my history on this forum will show. Khair, as far as Butt goes, he has a long long way to go before he can even come close to Saeed Bhai's standards - BUT - he has the ability, the temperament and class to get there. World Class players have acknowledged that fact and as far as technical flaws go, everyone has them. 7 years of playing international cricket hasnt stopped Younis Khan from fishing outside off stump or attempting a pull without getting into line for example, as far as Butt goes...sure he has his flaws outside Off..but he has the makings of a class player and as such should be supported not discouraged. As far as getting runs on flat tracks goes, the SCG wasnt an easy place to get runs, the ball was turning and Warne was at his best - so dont knock an innings just because you dont like the guy.
Oh and by the way, Man with a Plan, the Mullah things arent excuses...they're fact. The truth may hurt but thats the way it goes.

But the good thing about butt is that he is still young and can/should over come his fault and become part of Pak team. As i said somewhere else regarding Butt, the biggest thing in his favor is that Farhat has been given** another season **to prove his worth, in which he didnt. So now Butt can get a chance to show what he has improved?

Yes, these are excuses and you are doing everything to pollute the thread with your over the top assumptions on how the players were selected and dropped. Give me facts on your reason that Hafeez was selected on friendship with Inzamam?
BTW, do you know that on flat tracks, spinners have the advantage? Also, if you look at the scorecard with perspective, you will see that Younis Khan, Yasir Hameed and Asim Kamal played well than Butt.

by keeping him in after failure after failure??? The best way to point out his fault was to let him sit out, give someone else a chance and then hope that he figures out and works on his mistakes
You are mentioned over and over and over again about what Butt did in SCG and MCG... and at same time you are using younis's bad technique, flashing outside off stump to argue about Butt's case! Now Did he not score plenty of runs in that AUS series then why does according to you still sucks and butt doesnt?

I agree Butt has got potential but at the moment he needs to sort out his problems before coming back. Just because of bad selection Farhat had a full season does not justify giving Butt another season regardless of whether he deserves it or not. A technically correct Butt will be an asset to Pakistan, not the one we saw in England last year. Read my posts before Pakistan left for England. i did say that on English pitches he will be a total failure because of his inability to move in line of the ball. That is exactly what happened and he has been languishing ever since. The potential is there he needs to polish it before coming back.

Other than the above stated criteria for being Captain of Pakistan Cricket team the following should be included:
- Player has not been involved in match fixing
- Player should not have been reprimanded, censured or fined for match fixing or any other unethical practices
- Player demonstrates high levels of integrity and objectivity in all walks of life
- Player has and continues to play domestic cricket
- Player has shown leadership skills in domestic matches
- Player has declared his assets and sources of income on a regular basis
- Player is a committed CRICKETER

Dude…what on earth are u trying to prove? Scoring runs against the new ball against Mcgrath and Co with Warney to follow counts for a lot more than getting an 87 at number 6-7. As well as Yasir played…Butt’s innings is what stands out…not only for the 100 but the way he got it.
As far as ‘giving u the facts on Hafeez being selected on friendship’…I dont have to give you the facts…if you just pull up the records…or if you’ve been watching the games Pakistan has played since the England tour…you would see that Hafeez has never scored runs, never won a game for Pakistan, and has not done one thing to keep him in the team…yet he continues to play…if thats not bias by the captain then what is it ? Divine Mullah intervention? Maybe.

Point is, Butt is not the only one who made a 100, Pakistani and Australian batsmen also had their way. So, its not like only Butt had a good day on a flat track.

Don't give me stats, I am not one of those guys. I go by performance and pressure situation. I am not a big Hafeez fan, but you have to admit that Salman needs to work on his game in order to be considered in the team, let alone be the captain.
Since you havent seen him play since Sepmteber 06 - Why dont you sit back and wait till he comes back into the team to see if his flaws have been removed...they werent that major to begin with, surely not enough to warrant an exclusion for so long for the likes of Hafeez, but whats done is done...and Inzys gone so thank God.
As far as the captaincy goes, I do support him for that because Ive seen what he can do. But thats in the PCB's hands...as it is...I think they'll play it 'safe' and go with the whining machine known as Younis Khan.
