The Hashoo Group, the owners and operators of five star chains of Pearl Continental and Marriott Hotels in Pakistan, announces with great pleasure the construction of 40-storey tower that will be a deluxe 6-star hotel along with 2800 sq-ft of convention facilities in the beautiful city of Lahore, provincial capital of Punjab. The new addition combined with the existing Pearl Continental Hotel will have a total of 1100 rooms. The new hotel will be the biggest and the tallest hotel in Pakistan and one of the biggest and the tallest hotels in the region.

The hotel extension plan will be completed in just 20 months with a cost of US$50 million. The 40-storey building has been planned after the district government's decision to relax rules set for the height of hotel buildings. The current Pearl Continental building is 110-ft high while the new building will be 500-ft tall and will have helipad on the roof top. Canadian-based , Mr. Ramesh Khosla, who received Aga Khan Architectural Award in 1980, has made the design of the sky scrapper.

Hashoo Group is the biggest company in hospitality owning and operating 5 Pearl Continental and 2 Marriott Hotels in Pakistan. Two more Pearl Continental Hotels, one each at upcoming Gawadar port and Muzaffarabad, capital of Independent Kashmir, are under construction.

:k: wow, that is an impressive building.
40 storeys has gotta make it one of the tallest in Pakistan.

Wow!

There are rules on how tall a building can be in Punjab? I didn't know that. Maybe that's why we don't see tall buildings in Pak.

In Lahore? What'll it be called? Burj-al-Paindoo...:Dj/k

:rotfl: No…Burj Al- Dhaggas.

No offense to anyone…

Not good for Pak - India friendship…:nono1:

Re: New 6 star hotel in Lahore

whatever you call it, cant deny Lahore! its most vibrant city of Pakistan.
Karachi may be more vibrant minus the culture.

Re: New 6 star hotel in Lahore

^I’d rather not make this into a petty Lahore vs Karachi thread. Thank you.

I think this is a fabulous news. The building looks cool as well. Lets hope they complete it on time and add to the lights of our beautiful city.

I am not sure if the rule was either for Pakistan or for Punjab. I know it was applicable for Lahore. Many years ago, when I was researching this, there was a restriction that no building in the city limits of Lahore can be higher than 7 stories (I think, for the longest time, the State Bank Building on the Mall road was the tallest). Reason given, was that the city does not want any building to be taller than Minaar-e-Pakistan. When I heard it, I was like, WTH!?!?! Anyway, good thing is that they have changed the rules.

Lahore is a beautiful and a very expensive city (now). They should use prime land, most efficiently. Hopefully this and future sky-scrappers in Lahore will be built with artisitic and aesthetic sense and display good architecture.

Re: New 6 star hotel in Lahore

wow

habib bank plaza on i i chundrigar road karachi as of now is the tallest building in pakistan i think. not sure how many storeys it is.

^
I'd read somewhere Habib Bank Plaza has 25 storeis. hmmm

Re: New 6 star hotel in Lahore

Habib Bank Plaza is not the tallest building anymore. MCB tower on I.I.Chandigarh road is taller than Habib Bank Plaza. ^you are right, HBP is 25 and MCB is about 27(not exactly sure). But Lahore hotel may never get the tag of being the tallest building of Pakistan because construction is underway for Port Towers; 1400 ft tall...will be the tallest in South Asia and among top 10 in the world.

Re: New 6 star hotel in Lahore

it will be 3rd tallest building according to todays standards and 5th tallest when its constructed. the building will be a part of a dozen highrises around clifton....the design was modified and now its 1500 feet.

Re: New 6 star hotel in Lahore

The building itself doesnot look impressive from this view. Maybe it will be more impressive in reality once its built.

Re: New 6 star hotel in Lahore

Re: New 6 star hotel in Lahore

I have seen its real model at PC in lahore, its quite empressive. though i dont agree to have total glass building design in hot and sunny weather of Lahore. though it looks good.

Re: New 6 star hotel in Lahore

(Sorry Faisal :D)
Lahore has cultural roots yeah but everyones hanging to that same one culture, still living in the past. This breeds ignorance and intolerance among people (much like the rednecks of texas). It is due to this ignorance half of lahoris don’t even know there exists a black community in pakistan called makranis.

Karachi on the other hand is a mix of several cultures thus encouraging everyone to learn to respect people of other races and religions. Much like any multicultural metropolitan city around the world.
