But I hope you understand my point. While you cannot ban the slaughter without first stunning an animal, perhaps it is prudent, as Muslims who follow a faith that precludes cruelty to animals, that we should consider such an option on our own. If not for them, then for the sake of being better human beings and better Muslims.
Whether or not something is halal is not defined by the level of pain an animal experiences as it dies. Making an animals death as painless as possible is not an affront to the standards of halal, and it fulfills the injunction that we should avoid cruelty to animals as taught by Islam.
