Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

Call me crazy but I think Nehari is one of the dishes that tastes better from good restaraunt than made home. My ammi is a great cook and I’ve tasted Nehari at rishtaydaar and friends places but never once have I felt it is better than good restaurant taste. Anyone else have the same experience? What is about Nehari that makes it so?

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

not just Nihaari. i have the same thoughts about gaajar ka halwa..

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

The cook’s sweat

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

it's the extra extra fat & oil added to Nehari at restaurents , and excessive khoya in gajar ka halwa that make it taste sooooooooo yummy , u can't do these added features at home.....................

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

i think the same is true for biryani. i had the worlds best biryani at "karachi house biryani" in Khi. i think the reason is as above mentioned..they cook it in lots of fat....there was a thick layer of oil on my plate after i was done.

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

student biryani.. yummmm

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

ughhh fatttt ewww :yukh:

At desi places i stick to things like kababs and samosas, only coz my mom doesnt make those.. but hr biryani and pulao and salaans and halva and zarda are all superb, they can’;t compare to restaurant brand stuff.

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

Agreed. And a great deal too!

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

can u please have her mke some and send it my way :( I miss my mum's cooking, especially the suji ka halwa she makes, not too sweet not too greasy... just right
slurp

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

national nihari masala makes nihari as good as if not better than restaurants. Actually I like it better. The gajar ka halwas available at restaurants here is gross, the one sold in pakistan was a whole different story and surely home made halwa can not compete with it :yummy:

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

femme gajjar ka halwa at tahoora rocks

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

never had it there but every single place I have had it here in VA its nasty and way too sweet and tastes like they cooked it in water. I prefer our homemade one to that any day.

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

sara bhag gayee
halway ka chance bhi reh gaya :(

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

Its the added ass paas ka gandh and the tried and tested recipes ...sarak ki fizaa...all add to the maza!!:D

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

not to forget macchar makkhi and other added protien.

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

is it after seeing those flies dying right next to where they have biryaani under that blue light used for insects :D?

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

:)

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

street Nehari tastes the best. My mom makes it good but still we can tell the difference.
There are quite a few very good nihari places in lahore. All of them are on the road-side where you would either eat in your car or sit on the side walk. But i don't eat the extra toppings though.

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

No matter how good of a cook one is, homemade nihari can't come close to those famous nihari houses in karachi.
The tarka, maghaz, nalli and hot tandoori naan makes it all the more special especially when you eat it on the spot with unlimited graby.

Re: Nehari - Home vs. Street made?

^
You are right. freshly made tandoori naan :lajawab:
I don’t eat maghaz & nalli though.
