need help regarding an outfit

I made this outfit for a client, who refused to have it and is asking for a refund as her ‘family’ doesnt think this is good enough to wear for her and she is blaming me for using low quality fabric on it without even touching the outfit ( How can one make out about the fabric quality used from pictures unless someone HAS to pick out point on criticising the outfit in ANY case? ) I have told her I am not refunding unless I am proved to use bad quality material on it and unless it is sold.

I charged her 16000rs for it as the fabric that i used is 40 grams blue card chiffon (200rs per yard, 11 yards for the whole top and dupatta) , dyed in panels with so many attempts to get the shaded effect, ending up paying 1500rs to the dyer as I had to get the panels cut prior to dyeing and each panel used was dyed separatelly ; using the best available quality pure banarsi for sleeves and bottom, which was 600rs per yard for undyed, the lace used was 150rs per yard and 15 yards of it used on the shirt only for the neckline, flair and the sleeves. the top is pure tissue fabric , 550 per yard and it is on the front and back. AND i ended up paying 5000rs for stitching only as it has a 4 yard flair ( 8 yards all around) with lots of panels and kaliyaan. I need anyone seeing these pics to leave an honest review as this is what i could do to make it closest to the original.

also, if someone is interested, i am willing to sell it for 13000rs without shipping, 14500rs with shipping

:frowning: I feel so low right now as I have never been blamed on quality of fabric used atleast, despite having issues with clients on measurements, shades, etc. the only difference I see is the length of the top part which is shorter in the original, and I told her I can fix it before sending it out, but she gave me a big list of faults in how the fabric is bad quality and the shades in panels look ugly and what not, just to prove it all disliked and unacceptable.

measurements for the dress for anyone interested

length 46’’
chest 19.5’’
waist 19’’
shoulder 13.5’’
sleeves 13’’

Re: need help regarding an outfit

Hey Proto...to be honest nothing is wrong with this outfit...but if i was at her place..what im thinking is may be her family is getting mad at her for paying 16000 for just one outfit...or may be she is not interesting anymore in this outfit and liked other one thats why she is asking for money back so she can get other outfit..

Re: need help regarding an outfit

it stunning outfit i dnt see anything wrng with it and i thinkin same as Kinzz mite be family gettin mad at her

Re: need help regarding an outfit

thanks alot kinz and rozyuk…I can understand that but that’s no reason to rub it in my face ! :bummer:

Re: need help regarding an outfit

if she had changed her mind and wants her money back, she will say anything to make that happen. if she truly wanted the outfit, she would wait until she saw it first hand before judging it.

to anyone that knows.. an outfit with this much kapra and stitching going into it is going to cost as much as kaam wala outfit.

Re: need help regarding an outfit

Copying original dress designs isn't easy. The piece you made maybe will look different in person, compared to on the rack...

Maybe the Aishwaraya dress was made with a different material and so has a different fall to it? It looks like they're two different types of cloth, so maybe that's why she's disappointed?

It honestly doesn't look like its worth 16,000 ruppees to me. Maybe 5000 rupees. Yep, with that cloth and with the work that went into it. But then again, maybe its just the camera and the dress up close is super beautiful and maybe when someone puts it on, it looks fabulous.

Have you tried purchasing a manequin? It would help to dress the outfit on a manequin as oppose to putting it on a hanger, but I don't know how easy it is to find a manequin in Pakistan.

Re: need help regarding an outfit

Looks pretty identical, I think its probably the price which has her and her family freaked when looking at the end product, which is of course not fair to you becuse that was the agreement. I'm sure these cuts are expensive to make and a lot more material is used than normal but one can get a very heavy formal for Rs 16,000 and this may have changed her mind. have you offered to lower the price or send her more close up pics in a different light? might help, the material in this light looks kinda shiny and gauze like as compared to the original maybe thats why she thinks its low quality fabric.

Re: need help regarding an outfit

Thanks stoppit. I really appreciate it coming from you esp when you are considered to have good knowledge and acquaintance with fabric and stitching.

PCG: I will be getting a mannequin soon as well, it's just that I avoid pictures and any such figure at my place.

Reading the part of your post about it being worth 5000rs, I really hope you havent gone through my post completely where i gave the prices for the fabric, dyeing, laces and stitching costs on it for ease in calculations. I have put the prices up here because this is a public forum and people with all levels of knowledge on fabric and stitching visit and they know what I am talking about.

also, i would highly appreciate if you can explain what fabric do you think is used in ash's outfit? I used pure chiffon in the copy.

Thanks for your input anyways.

Re: need help regarding an outfit

That is such a beautiful outfit and the price seems reasonable too for me because I'm aware of how much work it is put into making a dress like this. I am guessing that your client didn't like the price that was quoted when she saw the picture of t he final product. Maybe she has found another dress thats why she wants a refund? Or that her family found it too price because there is not kaam on it, and only kapra is used?

Their reasons could be many, I can only advice you to sell it to someone else :)

As for the fabric, it seem to me when i look at the Aish picture that it is chiffon. I haven't found any other fabric nowadays that get this shaded effect while dying, if there is anyone who knows anything more abt fabrics please enlighten me too. :)

But like many of us already know, picture doesnt do justice and I'm sure many(those who have ordered through you) will agree with me that all of the outfits look more beautiful in real! If she had seen and hold the dress by herself, I am sure she would have another opinion.

I can understand that you feel low because you have put alot of work into it, and i'm sure that someone else will like it and purchase it! :) Don't worry.. :)

Re: need help regarding an outfit

dramaybazz and sadia_86, thanks for your opinion :)

I just feel that if price would have been an issue, that could be sorted and considered prior to proceeding with the order because when I quoted the price, I informed about the fabric and stitching charges and we knew it wont have any embroidery on it in this price.

I have sent her closer pics as well and she knows I am running this thread here. I am just waiting to get a response on her now.

Re: need help regarding an outfit

I think the outfit looks pretty as well as similar to the pic!
seems like she changed her mind and is looking to get refunded in anyway possible...
Dont feel low, you have many shoppers here who have supported you in your work! good job and keep up the great work :)

Regardless of whether shes’ interested or not anymore, she shouldn’t order it. once money is exchanged,

People talk about designers and suppliers needing to be more professional–the same should go for customers. Buying something adn trying to skip out on the bill or making things up isn’t right either.

The way I see it, if you discuss with the designer about what they want and something still doesnt go right, then the designer is at fault…but when you leave it to them for their judgment, you really can’t blaem them if u get something you don’t like. I’ll be honest, I’ve ordered a few things (nto gonna say who) where afterwards I really wished that I had been more specific. but since I did tell them to use their judgment…I really can’t complain.

Exactly. I got tired just reading about all the work put into it :hehe:

Its a pretty ugly outfit to begin with, but thats Aishwarya’s fault…not protos.

Re: need help regarding an outfit

too good a copy....except for the longer bodice(unlike the original, which proto already meantioned).....I think that it is a copy made very close to the original...the borders, the colors and the cut etc everything is very close....it couldn't be any better except if it was made from the same rolls of fabrics:)I am known to be a picky customer :/ and eve from my picky eye I still see that it is a very good copy :)

Re: need help regarding an outfit

Hey Proto, dont feel low babe. I agree with all my fellow guppies above, she probably ordered it and when the family realised what she'd done they probably went mad and know she's making every excuse in the book not to have to purchase the outfit. I also think sara makes a very valid point about BOTH customers and vendors acting in a professional manner and unfortunately thats not always the case.
I personally think its a really nice copy of the original and looks pretty much the same as the original. and i can vouch for the quality of material u use, I've had a number of outfits from you and i can honestly say the kapra has NEVER been of a cheap quality. This person sounds like they are picking faults to get out of paying.

Dont feel Sad Proto, you're doing a really really good job, keep it up :)

Re: need help regarding an outfit

what happened to the dress prototype ?? she paid for it ?

Re: need help regarding an outfit

i think the beauty of this kind of outfit can only be known once the person who ordered it actually wears it. especially since it's an anarkali suit, it gonna look a million times better in person when she wears it. i don't think you've done anything wrong proto.

Re: need help regarding an outfit

i feel so better now. Thanks to all of you :hugz:

twinklewinkle: yes she’s already paid for it

proto there's something about that darkest pink dye used...it puts me off - doesn't look classy. that pink is cheapening the look in my opinion. just my 2 cents for what it's worth.
also, in north america - we have been drilled into our mentality that the CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.
i have learned that if i want an outfit, it's best not to have a copy made because its never exact. if you want the actual oufit, best to go to the original designer.
and if i said to my mom 16000 rupees for an outfit with no kaam, i can assure u that she would have same reaction as your clients mom too.
sorry but i gotta play 'devils advocate' .

Re: need help regarding an outfit

Proto it is very close to the original although it looks a little stiff from the picture. Doesn't seem to have much drape but then aishwarya's doesn't either!

Glad she paid for it though :)

Thanks for your words :) We dont mind having an 'iklotee' (only) devil's advocate either :)
