Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

lol pump? sorry i just foudn that funny

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

Don't get the hand pumps. Get the electric one. U can
rent that from the hospital.

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

while we are at it..wat r they?

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

But they’re so noisy!

If you are going to express milk then be prepared to spend longer than you think you need. Sometimes it feels like you’ve been at the pump for ages only to get a thimbleful of milk. If you have a picture of your baby to look at while expressing then it helps get the milk flowing.

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

W salaamz,

Its better that you use an electric pump as if you will take an handpump... you will be deadly tired after using the handpump.

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

Can't agree more with the rest regarding the hand pump.... basically it sucks :) The electric pump is much much better ... a lot faster...
Shahreen yeah they are noisy though i use to bring mine to work and close my office door and pump and I think everyone could still hear it ... embarrassing !!!

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

I didn't like the electric, it hurt.

I think once you have a child you'll find out what is good for you.

Stock up on vitamin A&D ointment. If you plan to breastfeed, your nipples more than not will get chapped.

Also, make sure the bra is a size or so bigger than it is now.

Load up on bra pads, every time the baby cried the automatic letdown would kill me, not to mention how embarassing it is to have it happen in front of your husband's family. Letdown happens when it is time to feed the baby, when you are upset, when a baby cries, if for some reason you lean against something............ ugh, that was the one thing I hated about the baby thing.

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

It's been a while since I used em. Forgot about the noise part.
Agree with Shehreen, to get the milk flowing they would be good. :)
I only used em for the first few days then I was all set.

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

So how long did you guys breastfeed for???

I wish I would have done it for longer than what i did... Ahmed was premature and the doctors couldn't figure out the right formula for him finally i started breatfeeding and it was great for a week but then he started throwing up so i gave up on it...broke my heart..

but InshAllah with my next one i want to breast feed for atleast an year. :)

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

My son - about 7 months until he bit me so badly with his 4 teeth and wouldn't let go, I was afraid to put him back on, then it was bottled breast milk til he was a little over a year.

My daughter was about 9 months and eating solid food early, so she grew out of it quickly.

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

I do not want to rent a pump.
MEDELA LACTINA DOUBLE PUMPING SYSTEM has best review so far. I think I am going to get it.

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

Tell me about it, I was in PAIN, tried everything to unlatch the little bugger, finally had to slap him, when he cried I practically threw him to his father........

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

^ Lol!

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

I stopped breastfeeding once the biting started too......I love Harris to bits but I draw the line at that.

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

hehe.....i nurse my kids till they r two....
yeah ..i'm still nursing my 17 months old daughter ...n she loves using her all four teeth....merci!!!

i'm literally counting days when she'll turn two

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

Afia,
I also nursed Safia till she was 26 months. She was very attached to it, so weaning was very hard but she cried it out. She had a terrible cow milk allergy so her pediatrician also supported extended breastfeeding. I was surprised she never tried to bite me. Now I've been nursing Maya and it seemed more painful starting this time for some reason. i got cracked nipples and used Lanolin. I had to do alot of deep breathing techniques for the first 5 days to ignore the pain but we've gotten past it now. On day two while I still had only colostrum i was very worried that she'd be hungry and ended up giving her a couple bottles of soy formula to fill her tummy so she could sleep. It's easy to 'give up' on breastfeeding and feel like you have inadequate supply during these first few days. But when your actual milk comes in around day 3-5 then you have these two rocks on your chest.
Engorgement is the next thing to deal with when your milk comes in. So feed baby on demand and often to ease the pain.

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

:bummer:

why does everything have to be so painful for a woman?

Re: NEED BREASTFEEDING TIPS(women only plz)

Minah, gosh you should see my relatives in pak. My cousins breastfed their lil boys til they got pregnant with their next kids…usually teh kid was 2 or 3 by then
