***Watched the complete season 1 and half of season 2 over the past few days and I just absolutely love it ! ***
NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service, is an American television series revolving around a fictional team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service which conducts criminal investigations involving the U.S Navy and Marine Corps.
***Though this and other similar dramas are almost gruesome and delve into the minds of criminals , they seem more fascinating than the usual run of the mill dramas. ***
Is it because us humans are becoming insensitive and more emotionally detached that these kind of shows have such a large viewership ?
Does it reflect evolving human emotion ?
What is about such series that keep you hooked ? Well other than Agent Gibbs ,of course !
I don't know what it is that gets me hooked but I love all of these types of shows.................from CSI to Criminal Minds to Mentalist...... I really don't think it is because of insesitivity because I always look forward to the ending when the catch the "villian" ...now imagine if they caught the wrong dude or something.......
I've tried watching it a couple of times, but found it really banal.
NCIS has got to be the most brain-dead show on the air... it’s got it all – poor unauthentic storylines and fictitious plots that almost always revolve around similar issues... sharply dressed charmers with robotic performances and people who don’t know how to act. Unlike other shows like Law & Order where the stories are picked from current affairs and real world events, this show has no teachable moments at all.
NCIS actually reminds me of the old 70's show, CHiPS, for all the reasons described by LC.
Other crime shows that I like, besides Law & Order and CSI, are Fringe and Criminal Minds. They seem a lot more "grounded" and better directed.

so chips was bad? - I never watched the show myself but vaguely remember my parents watching it in the early 80s... there was a disco-themed title track if I'm not mistaken :)
haven't seen the other shows you've mentioned but yes, for law & order, it's certainly very "grounded"... most episodes are pretty good.
Criminal minds is great for the morbid stuff they do. I also enjoy NCIS more for the character storylines and growth than for the episodes themselves. The show is fun. Law and Order is not. SVU is pretty much depraved.
Not a big fan of CSI: Miami. The way the guy with the red hair acts is pathetically pure. CSI and CSI: NY are not bad. But I am seriously tired of the genius leader stereotype in the CSI franchise.
love law and order......still watch it.......CI and SVU.
CSI managed to keep me engaged for a while
NCIS is only good for eye-candy (i.e. Gibbs), no real substance in it.....even the story lines are mundane and predictable. Duckie used to be interesting but I've started getting impatient with his run-on explanations too.
***So ultimately isn't it a morbid fascination for unravelling the twisted machinations of those who we don't understand ?
I've worked on Psychiatric Wards and the ONE question that was always glaring was WHY THEM ? How did they get to that point where reality blurred and what pushed them over the brink to do what they did ?***
