NBA

Asif/Umair..I am not saying that the western teams are not more talented. I am saying that they play no defense. Watching the Dallas/Kings game on saturday was sickening. Could you imagine Nowitski flying down the center or worse Van Exel going through the defense for soft floaters in the 80/90's? Kurt Rambis or Oakley would have clothesline them to make them think twice instead of side stepping.

There is no weak side help, charges are given for bullsiht contact and travel is rarely called. Double teaming is poor and even with zone play there is no shifting.

CELTICS vs NETS

[thumb=B]captkm.JPG[/thumb]

New Jersey Nets' Kenyon Martin hangs on the rim after slamming a dunk.

The NETS defeated the CELTICS 110-101 in two overtimes Monday night to win their series with Boston 4-0. Jason Kidd had 29 points along with 8 assists and 10 rebounds for New Jersey, which advances to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second consecutive season. This is NETS first franchrise swept. They have been swept by other teams 7 times. Seems like they have learned alot and grown up.

[thumb=B]captjk.JPG[/thumb]

New Jersey Nets Jason Kidd (5) is pressured by Boston Celtics Bimbo Coles (12) while looking for an open man shot.

Paul Pierce ended his outstanding season for Boston with 29 points and 10 rebounds. In my opinion, Pierce is in a wrong team 'cause he's the only guy who steps up from CELTICS. Really, it's heartbreaking when CELTICS lose the game with Paul Pierece having 30+ points. It has happened quite alot both in regular season and playoffs. Boston has got to make alot of changes by picking up some good guards. Concentrate on defence and don't let turnovers. Then, they could have a good chance next year. Boston were good previous year than now.

[thumb=B]captjk1.JPG[/thumb]

New Jersey Nets' Jason Kidd (5) looks for room to maneuver against the defense of Boston Celtics' Antoine Walker.

Main reason why NETS swept CELTICS was turnovers, which then turned into fast breakpoints. Also, NETS were more offensive, defensive than CELTICS.

[thumb=B]captjim.JPG[/thumb]

Boston Celtics head coach Jim O'Brien rubs his forehead as NETS crushed CELTICS

Whoever wins the PISTONS-76ERS series will play with NETS in the Final of the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, NETS will go for fishing......:~)

Good job done by NETS coach Brian Scott. Good to see a young coach team making their way to the Eastern Conference finals for second consecutive time.

Los Angeles LAKERS News:

[thumb=B]captjackson2.JPG[/thumb]

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson speaks to the media after practice.

LAKERS coach Phill Jackson will be on bench in tomorrow's Game 5 with San Antonio SPURS in San Antonio. Alhamdulliah! Jackson rejoined the team today(Monday) in the practice session. He was looking fine, joked alot with journalists.

[thumb=B]captkb4.JPG[/thumb]

Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant answers questions from the media after practice.

[thumb=B]captshaq1.JPG[/thumb]

Los Angeles Lakers' Shaquille O'Neal practices shooting free throws.

5Abi, I know what you mean about FTs. FTs in Game 5 will be important. Missing one FT could make the game go either way. LAKERS had like 40+ FTs in Game 4 'cause two center players of SPURS, Robinson and Malik Rose were in foul trouble from the start.

What Phill Jackson pointed was Tim Duncan had more FTs than the LAKERS team as a whole in Game 1. You do the math, homie. SMILE

Matsui is right. Dallas and Sacramento have mediocre defence. Defence wins the games and neither of these two will play in the finals. Lakers/Spurs series is more like a finals series at the moment. No offence to teams in the east but the winner of Lakers/Spurs series will take it all :D

But do you also remember last year it was the Kingz, not so good defensive team, who was only 1 game away from the championship.

Only one game away from Western Conference title and not NBA Championship . :)

Oh how I long for the days when Van gundy was hanging on to Mourning’s leg. :hehe:

^ LOL, yah I remmeber that Kushti match. I think these days Jeff Van Gunji is hanging on to Bill Walton's leg :D

He might be in New Orleans or Charlotte soon.

Mavericks kicking Queens butt. The way Dallas is moving the ball around all over the court makes Queens look like some High School team. It appears that since their main man Chris Weber left, they have lost all morale.

If you are not watching the Lakrers/Spurs Game 5, you are missing out majorly. Lakers were down 25 points and have cut the lead to just 6 points in the 4th quarter. Less than 4 mins to go. What a game!

It would have been the most dramatic win by the Lakers if the last 3-pt shot by Rob Horry had gone in.
It was 80 - 58 at one point but Lakers came back and lost 96 - 94.

As the legendary Magic Johnson said "It will be 7 games like Frasier and Ali"

Friend, Game 4 of 2002 Western Conference Final won't happen every year, I remember last year Robert Horry made that 3 ptr which by many pundits is known as one of the best moments in the history of NBA, but I can assure it will never happen again.

Go Spurs!

Whatever...Lakers almost won that game. How I long for some defense.

Regarding the Dallas/Sac game..what an insult to basketball. How do you lose a 16 point lead and then lose by 20? That is insane. No one plays defense. If Raja Bell drove like that against the 84 celtics, he would have left the game in a stretcher.

MAVERICKS vs KINGS

[thumb=B]mdf276530.JPG[/thumb]

Sacramento Kings center Vlade Divac looks at the referee after being called for his fifth foul.

Doug Christie scored 21 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists but the KINGSs fell to the MAVERICKS 112-93. 4 starters from MAVS were in double-figures, including two guys, Van Exel and Raja Bell from the bench. I back 5Abi's theory. KINGS defence has been collasped as their main guy Chris Webber is out of the playoffs. But still I think KINGS can win this series, though, I don't reckon KINGS can go head-to-head against LAKERS or SPURS in the Western Conference Final.

[thumb=B]capt.1052880685kings_mavericks_dna116.JPG[/thumb]

Dallas Mavericks guard Raja Bell is congratulated by teammate Steve Nash (13) after making a dunk against the Sacrametno Kings.

One disappiontment I've noticed from KINGS is Mike Bibby, who's not responding. Last year, he was much better aggressive and dominated person. This year, he's not what he used to be. 10, 11 pts with he's playing is like keeping your average as a player.

But all credit to MAVS. The played great with good ball moment, by picking up offensive rebounds; and defence was on its peak. Game 6 is on Thursday as the series heads back to Sacromento.

LAKERS vs SPURS

[thumb=B]capt.1052886971lakers_spurs_saa111.JPG[/thumb]

Los Angeles Lakers' Robert Horry (5) reacts after missing a 3-point shot in the final seconds.

Robert Horry's last-second three-pointer rimmed in-and-out, stopping the LAKERS' wild comeback just short, and the defending champs lost to the SPURS 96-94 in Game 5 on Tuesday to go down 3-2 in their Western Conference Semifinals series. It ruined a great comeback as Phill Jackson said but anyway, it was a good effort by Horry. L.A. cut a 25-point San Antonio lead to just one but couldn't quite catch up and now face a must-win situation at home. It was a good decision by Kobe to let Horry to take the final winning shot 'cause Horry was open; and Duncan wasn't guarding him. Well, Robert has struggled alot from the downtown in the series against SPURS. At least, he's trying to be aggressive; and that's all it matters.

LAKERS were outclassed by the SPURS in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, LAKERS caught up fire as SPURS almost gave their lead and escaped Game 5. Before even the start of the playoffs, I knew this series will be different than others. This series is not best of 7-Game anymore. It has come down to Best of 3. LAKERS are in the same position as they were last year against KINGS, against TRAILBLAZZERS in 2000.

[thumb=B]stanislav_medvedenko.JPG[/thumb]

Stanislav Medvedenko.

I was surprised by the move of Phill Jackson sitting Shaquille out almost 6 minutes in the 4th qtr. Stanislav Medvedenko replaced O'Neal and he poured 13-pt off the bench. Sweet......Haven't LAKERS been looking for this kinda help from bench for couple of years and now found it, hey?

And then there were some poor decision by the refs. I'm not saying just 'cause it happened against LAKERS but this year refs have made mistakes in almost every game of the playoffs; and that really stinks. Players makes mistakes. Refs makes mistakes.

First one, goes on Shaquille as technical. He got involved in a debate with a ref as he didn't call for a foul.

[thumb=B]capt.1052888421lakers_spurs_saa115.JPG[/thumb]

Los Angeles Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal (34) battles San Antonio Spurs defenders Stephen Jackson (3), Tim Duncan (21) and David Robinson for control of the ball.

As long as SPURS or other team are guarding O'Neal, that's fine. But stripping a ball from a person's hand doesn't make sense to say it's the way to steal or to defend. And that really pissed Shaquille off.

[thumb=B]mdf276576.JPG[/thumb]

Los Angeles Lakers' guard Kobe Bryant(R) protests a foul call to ref Don CRAWFORD

Second one was, not giving a foul as Bryant protested. There's was a contact of Bowen's hand to Bryant's, and no call. Huh..........First NBA teams facing injuries, then poor decision by refs and I wonder are the rest games of the playoffs gonna be like that?

[thumb=B]capt.1052889126lakers_spurs_saa117.JPG[/thumb]

San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan, left, congratulates teammate Tony Parker (9)

Anyway, congrats to SPURS. They pulled off a game, which they were about to lose. Duncan said about Horry's shot in a press conference: "I was just hoping that it doesn't go in. That's all I was thinking."

Game 6 @ STAPLES Center as the series heads back to Los Angeles.

76ERS vs PISTONS

[thumb=B]chuck_170_030514.JPG[/thumb]

Atkins pumps his fist after scoring the game-winning shot.

[thumb=B]amdf277383.JPG[/thumb]

Detroit Pistons guard Chucky Atkins (L) celebrates with Michael Curry and Richard Hamilton (R) after making the game-winning shot against the Philadelphia 76ers.

OMG.....the playoffs have gone wild. Chucky Atkins' last-second finger roll counted after Derrick Coleman was called for goaltending and the PISTONS beat the SIXERS 78-77 on Wednesday night. Atkins finished with 17 points for Detroit. Richard Hamilton had a good 1st half but struggled in the second as he was just 2/10 from the field.

[thumb=B]iverson.JPG[/thumb]

Philadelphia 76ers' Allen Iverson passes off against Detroit Pistons defender Ben Wallace (3).

SIXERS trailed the entire game, came all the way back to take a one-point lead in the final seconds but still fell short. I've never witnessed Iverson strugging from field as I've tonight. He was 5/25 FGs, with 9 assists and 8 rebounds.

[thumb=B]captiverson1.JPG[/thumb]

Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson got the ball as he stole from Detroit Pistons guard Chucky Atkins.

It was a good come back from the 76ERS but ruined it in the final moment of the Game. I see 76ERS-PISTONS series going into 7-Game.

[thumb=B]Rick.JPG[/thumb]

Detroit Pistons head coach Rick Carlisle yells from the sidelines.

Both coaches were yelling from the sidelines. You don't see that often in the Basketball game, do you? ;)

Game 6 is a do or die for Lakers. Lakers facing 1st of two elimination games. The reign, the Lake show, the dynasty, is on the line.

A bit of history:

How the Lakers have fared in elimination games under Phil Jackson:

1999-2000 SEASON

First round (Series tied, 2-2)

May 5, 2000 at Staples Center — Lakers 113, Sacramento 86. Shaq scores 32 points and grabs 18 rebounds as Lakers romp to victory.

Conference finals (Series tied, 3-3)

June 4, 2000 at Staples Center — Lakers 89, Portland 84. In one of the greatest comebacks in Laker history, L.A. rallies from 15-point fourth-quarter deficit to earn first trip to NBA Finals since 1991.

2001-2002 SEASON

Conference finals (Trailing, 3-2)

May 31, 2002 at Staples Center — Lakers 106, Sacramento 102. Shaq scores 41 points and grabs 17 rebounds and makes 13 of 17 free-throw attempts.

Conference finals (Series tied, 3-3)

June 2, 2002 at Sacramento — Lakers 112, Sacramento 106. It takes overtime, but Shaq's 35 points and Kobe's 30 points lead Lakers to NBA Finals for the third year in a row.

Spurs Win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a commanding victory, won by 28 pts and it brings an end to the Lakers 3 time winning streak.

Very sad to see Derek Fisher and Kobe Bryant in tears at the end of the game, afterall Kingz aren't the only whiny babies in California.

Lets see who win the other Western Conference game.

Its going to be an ALL texas series!

LAKERS vs SPURS

[thumb=B]Jackson.JPG[/thumb]

Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson watches LAKERS lost.

[thumb=B]Lakers.JPG[/thumb]

Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant, left, embraces teammate Shaquille O'Neal.

Title Run comes to end for Los Angeles LAKERS tonight(05/15/03) from where it began @ STAPLES Center. Thursday night with a 110-82 loss to the San Antonio SPURS, LAKERS have been eliminated from the playoffs. It's been a toughest year for LAKERS Basketball Club with key players and coach facing health problem since the beginning of the playoffs. Being a back-to-back-to-back three times Champions, it's been a pleasure. I love mah home team. Hats off to the LAKERS. We all gave standing ovation to the LAKERS, yeh!

[thumb=B]spurs.JPG[/thumb]
Spurs Celebrates Victory against Lakers.

Congratulations to SPURS. You've got to be the 'Best' to beat the 'Best'.Tim Duncan showed why he is the league MVP, scoring 37 points to go with 16 rebounds. Greg Popovich proved with his skills why he is the Coach of the Year. But I reckon the most dashing performace came from the SPURS was Tony Parker. No offence to Duncan and rest of the SPURS' team efforts but I believe Parker was amazing tonight. The yougest PG in the NBA was too hot to handle, played like an old Veteran. 'Cause of Parker, SPURS offensive game ran wild. He had 27 pts tonight. The defence of SPURS was superb. No question about it. LAKERS had game in the 1st qtr. Rest of the 3 qtrs were SPURS show.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich gestures to his players.

There have been news that Phill Jackson won't coach anymore since he has been facing health problem. I wonder who's gonna take over his place once Jackson steps down. :-/ 'Cause of Jackson, Shaquille and Bryant reached at the top.

Honestly, how low can you be? I reckon, there wasn't a single whinning word from Kobe. In fact Bryant said, We can say millions of example but in the end it doesn't matter 'cause we didn't get it done. Plain and Simple. EOD.

MAVERICKS vs KINGS

[thumb=B]bobby.JPG[/thumb]

Dallas Mavericks' Nick Van Exel, right, turns away from Sacramento Kings' Bobby Jackson after the two exchanged words.

See you in Dallas. :)

Great performance by the KINGS as they tied up the best of 7-Game series to 3 games apiece by defeating the MAVERICKS 109-115. KINGS have lost their main weapon Chris Webber but still 'It ain't over yet' KINGS reserve players had an outstanding Basketball game.

[thumb=B]nash.JPG[/thumb]

Sacramento Kings' Bobby Jackson and Dallas Mavericks' Steve Nash (13) scramble for the ball.

MAVERICKS actually led by as many as 10 pts but just couldn't handle the superb defence by the KINGS in the 2nd half. 4 starters from KINGS were in double-figures, including two guys from the bench. Peja Stojakovic had game-high 24 points for Sacramento. Having said that, KINGS were 100% perfect from the line, 29/29 FTs.

[thumb=B]captbobbynash.JPG[/thumb]

Sacramento Kings' Bobby Jackson goes up for a basket as Dallas Mavericks' Steve Nash attempts to block him.

[thumb=B]van.JPG[/thumb]

Dallas Mavericks Nick Van Exel applauds as he shot 3-pointer.

Good coaching by Rick Adelman. He knew Mike Bibby isn't stepping up that much, and gave chance to Jim Jackson, who was great from the field. Bobby Jackson had terrific game as usual.

Sacramento Kings' Chris Webber applauds his team as KINGS beat MAVERICKS.

Game 7 is on Saturday as the series heads back to Dallas.

  • **NBA Playoffs 2003 - SEMI-FINALS Result :-

  • Dallas MAVERICKS vs Sacramento KINGS - Series tied 3-3.

Disappointing loss! but Tim Duncan and the guys deserved the win and as Jack Nicholson said , the best teams always wins the 7-game series.

Lakers will be back next year, no question about that. Lakers have 5 or 6 free agents and they will fill in those spots and strengthen their weakness in power forward position over the off season. Plus, Phil, Kobe and Shaq will be back. And as long as these three are together on a team, Lakers are always contenders for the championship.

Had they won the 4th title, they would have been the first team since Boston Celtics to win 4 in a row.
